Announcing… WordCrafters 2!!

WordCrafters 3 (1280x1280)

YESYESYESYESYESYES!! It’s time for WordCrafters again! I know lots of you have been looking forward to this, and so have I! I announced WordCrafters 1 all the way back in January, and the story turned out SO well, thanks to all you amazing writers! (Click here to read the story for WordCrafters 1.)

Okay, I’d better explain the rules in case some of you are like, “Say what now?”

WordCrafters is a sort of writing challenge I made up (and polished off with the help of the wonderful Josie – thanks so much, Été! 😉 ). The basic idea is this: Josie will start off the story by writing a chapter, and then we’ll hand it over to you. The WordCrafters participants take turns adding a chapter on to the story until we end up with one great big glorious story written by many different people! (Again, check out the first story for an example.)

Josie will post the first chapter on June 1. That leaves plenty of time to sign up!

Now here are the more in-depth rules. (Please read over these even if you’ve participated in an earlier WordCrafters, just to refresh your memory. 🙂 )

_______________________________________________

Sign-ups: You can sign up from today, April 9th – May 31st. Just comment beneath this post (or over at Josie’s blog) saying that you’d like to participate, and voila! You may enter even if you do not have a blog.

When is it my turn? After the sign-ups are closed, we’ll make a randomized list of all the participants. After Josie posts the start of the story,  the next person on the list will have their turn, and we’ll just keep going down the list.

What should I know about writing my chapter? You may optionally include an illustration or photograph of your own or from the web to illustrate your part of the story. Try to finish your part within 3-5 days, although I won’t chop your head off if you take longer. XD We just need to keep the story moving so the participants don’t have to wait so long for their turn. Don’t make it too long – around 750 words would be a good length. But again, I won’t chop off your head if you make your chapter 300 or 900 pages. XD It just really adds up when several people make a chapter each, and we don’t want people to have to wait months for their turn. Please make your story G-rated – no inappropriate language, over-much violence, etc. And another thing: Please use no dark magic. It’s okay to use fairy-tale magic, like going through a portal into another world, but many of the participants (and Josie and I) are not into dark magic or witchcraft. Thanks! 🙂

After I finish my story…? Both Josie and I will update a page on our blogs where you can read the story so far. After you finish your part of the story, just send Josie and me a link to your post, and we will add it to the WordCrafters page. If you do not have a blog, send us the story using our “Contact Me” pages. On that page you will also see a numbered list of the people who signed up so you can tell who goes after whom. Tag the person after you on the list by dropping them a comment on their blog to let them know it’s their turn. (For instance, if you are the 3rd person on the list, tag the 4th person to continue the story after you.) Oh, and one more thing: when you write your part of the story, you can put the WordCrafters button on your blog sidebar, if you like.

Characters: This time I got to make up the characters! I’m just going to give you a little hint of them now. I’ll explain them in much more detail when we’re about to start.

Esme, (girl) age 10

Vivi, (girl) age 13

Pippin, (boy) age 16

Oh yes. And don’t kill these characters in your story! XD Josie and I have big plans for them for WordCrafters 3, so we want them to be still alive and kicking by then! XD XD

___________________________________________________________

And I think that about wraps it up. Would you like that with flour or corn? (It’s a joke – get it? Would you like a flour or corn tortilla with your wrap? XD XD HAHAhahaha. Ha. Ahem. XD XD)

I’m so excited to do this again! (Have I said that before? XD ) If you have any questions, just ask. 🙂 And I’d love it if you spread the word to your blogger friends! 😀

      P. S. Yeah. I’ll only dent your head, not chop it off. XD XD Juust kidding. 😛 I’m guessing you meant “chop” instead of “shop,” right? But I’m pretty sure I won’t shop anyone’s head off either. XD

P.S. Yes, I did. I hate making typos! I know I should reread my comment, but I’m always to hurried. Hmm. Shop someone’s head off? That doesn’t sound pretty either! XD

    1. Aww, I’m so glad you’re excited! *Hangs head* Yeah, I know. That was a rather corny joke. Haha, get it? Corn tortillas? XD Okay, that was REALLY stale. Unlike the tortillas – they’re pretty fresh. XD HELP! I can’t stop! XD XD XD 😀 🙂
      P. S. Yep! We’re going to another WordCrafters after this one some time!

  4. Hmmm… I’m definitely going to consider signing up 😉
I do have a concern, though… I noticed in the previous Wordcrafters, the story had magic in it (at least that’s what I remember, forgive me if I’m wrong) and I don’t feel completely comfortable in writing about magic. I’m actually going to see how it goes with just a magical object in my current story, just to see how my heart feels about it. But since I’d be writing with others, I won’t know how this story will go and if I’ll have to use magic… Is there any way I could find out for sure? 🙂

    1. Okay! Yes, there was fairy-tale magic in the last story (like when Alalia went through the cave to another world). That’s totally fine if you don’t want to enter because of that – I understand. 🙂 Hmm… from what Josie and I talked about, I think this story might have some fairy-tale magic like the last one. But I don’t actually know what Josie’s going to write, so she might not write about magic at all in the first chapter… But then again, other people might in their chapters so… yeah, I can’t guarantee you one way or the other. 😦 I’m so sorry about that! Like I said, I totally understand if you don’t do it, but we’d be happy to have you if you decide to join! ♥

  5. I would love to join. I absolutely love writing, reading, and really anything with words. I do have one question (though I probably know the answer). Are we allowed to make up characters and kill off other made up characters? I just like stories with odd twists and turns. And sometimes you can’t have a good story without killing off a character or two.

    1. Yay! Yes, you’re allowed to kill other characters (if it isn’t too gory or violent 😉 ), but just don’t kill the main characters! (Like I said, we have plans for them. 😀 )

  6. Aaa! I am N-O-T missing it this time! I SOMEHOW missed it last time and was SOO sad that I did, but not this time! NO SIREE! >:D 🙂 😦 🙂 😛 XD Heheehehehe! I”M ENTERINGGGGG!!!! WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOO! XD Haha! 😛 It sounds like SOOO much fun! I was SUPER disappointed that I missed last time, and that that was like the ONE post on your blog that I didn’t ever see. And I ALMOST missed it THIS time TOO!!! 😮 😮 😛 😡 XD 😀 So SIGN ME UP! 😛
    I CAN NOT WAIT! 😀
Buuuttt….is it gonna be like last time where there was like .. magic or something in it? :/
EE! I’m still very excited! CAN’T WAIT! I’ll try to post about it sometime! 😀 EEEEEK! 😛 XD XD

    1. Yay! I’m so happy you’re doing it, K. A.! But I’m not sure about the magic part – there will very likely be magic in it if it’s anything like the last one (fairy-tale magic like where you go through portals to another world). I hope you can still participate, but I understand if you don’t want to. 🙂

    2. Yay!
Well, we don’t want any witchcraft or evil magic or anything like that, but fairy-tale magic is fine. Think magic portals into another world, the story of Cinderella, basically making impossible things happen. And it’s okay for bad characters to use magic – think the White Witch in Narnia, but nothing seriously evil or cult-like. Does that help or not? It’s fine to use fun fairy-tale magic, just not dark, evil magic. You can check out the first story to see what kind of magic we used. 😀

  11. WHY IS JUNE SO FAR AWAAAAAAY?
P.S. I got a blog, BUT I’m having some technical issues,so I may or may not post my chapter on my blog. It depends on what happens. 🙂

    1. Ha ha, I’m super glad you’re excited. 😉 😀 It’s coming up pretty fast for me. 😀
      P. S. Ooh, congratulations on starting a blog! Aww, that’s too bad. 😦 If there’s anything I can help you with, please ask!

        1. AAGH! That is SO annoying when that happens, isn’t it? 😦 😡 Did you write it as a post or on a writing program like Microsoft Word? (I’m asking ’cause I might know how to get it back. 😉 )

          Liked by 1 person

            1. Hmm… I was hoping it was on WordPress, because then you could restore a revision… but it might be possible to still get it back!
Did you accidentally delete the whole document, or just the words on the document? If you deleted the document, Megan says that if you go to your computer’s Recycle Bin and search for it, you should be able to restore it. (Tell me if that didn’t make sense and I’ll explain it again. 😉 ) If you only deleted the words on the document… I don’t know if you can get them back. 😦 It probably won’t work now unless you’ve kept the page open, but next time you want to undo something (like if you accidentally deleted something) you can hold down the “Ctrl” and “Z” buttons together for just a second or two and it will undo the action for you. I hope some of this helps!
As for how long you have to write it, I think you only have one or two days, but it’s not a hard and fast deadline. 😉 If you can do it sometime soon, that would be great, but it’s okay if it takes a bit. If you really don’t have time, though, I can switch places with you and another person and you can do your chapter later.

    1. Yay! I’m glad you want to sign up! I do have to say that I created this challenge mainly for young bloggers, so you have to be 18 or under to participate. :/ If you ARE 18 or under, we’d be happy to have you join the next round of WordCrafters! Thanks again for asking!

        1. Aww, that’s too bad. 😦 Sorry about that! I just did that so, you know, it would lower the risk of adult stuff in what’s mostly supposed to be a fun story for young bloggers. 😉 But thanks so much for asking! I’ll have to work on that, won’t I? 😉
