ART STUDIO {Part 2: Studio Tour}

Hello, dears!

AHHHH I am SO excited about this post! Finally, after many months of working on my studio, I am ready to unveil the (almost) finished product! πŸ˜€ I absolutely LOVE it, and I hope you guys do too! If you need a refresher on what the studio looked like before (hint: it was a closet), click here to see part one.

Now. Walk right this way, please… And here we are!Β Won’t you step inside?

studio 1

*grins* TA-DAAA!

studio 4

AHHH I LOVE IT! Let me give you a tour, shall I? My lens wasn’t good enough to get both walls in the frame completely, so you can’t see the right wall (below) very well in the previous pictures.

studio 2

Anyway, I bought three inexpensive LED light strands from Walmart as well as some miniscule wooden clothespins, and up hung quotes and photos with them. Unfortunately since the lights are battery powered, each strand is attached to a bulky, heavy battery case which was REALLY hard to hang on the wall. I finally got it to work by tacking up the cord on each side.

studio 30

I love these quotes from one of my pen pals and blogger friends, the amazing Clara!

studio 31

Next, turn yourself to the left wall…

studio 8

And let’s start with the bookcase. I bought this from Ikea, and although it was a little bigger than I had hoped, it works quite well for storing my art and craft books, old sketchbooks and Bible journals, planners, notebooks, etc. And camera lenses. πŸ˜‰

studio 11

Well that was quick. Now look up a bit.

studio 7

Do you like my painting? πŸ˜€ I got three 18″X24″ canvases from Hobby Lobby, pushed them together and painted a single scene across all of them, and then spread the canvases out for interest and to make it longer. πŸ™‚ I’m really happy with how it turned out! It’s not perfect, especially the background (it’s SO hard not to get a streaky gradient with acrylic paint!), but I still love it. It sure adds a pop of color to the very white space!

studio 6

Now we’re ready for my desk. *rubs hands* As I told you guys before, we accidentally ordered the wrong size of desk top from Ikea, but I ended up keeping it because I love the work area. I got the bookshelf partly to hide the gap since the drawers didn’t go all the way back to the wall, and it worked quite well!

studio 5

On the back of my desk from left to right, we have my Bible, Bible journal, and bullet journal between a ceramic plant from Hobby Lobby and a desk lamp from Walmart; a super cute mug from my friend Aria with miscellaneous art supplies; three jars containing my Prismacolor pencils; and my sketchbook and watercolors. The chair, which is adjustable and which I love, is from Amazon. Unfortunately I can’t find it in clear anymore, but here’s a clear gray.

studio 9

Not sure if this will be interesting or boring, but this is what I have in my desk drawers. πŸ˜‰ In the top, I have pen pal stuff – a gorgeous notebook from Walmart, some stamps, envelopes, and wax sealing kit.

studio 13

In the second drawer I have my washi tape and stickers. Oh yeah! I’m pretty proud of my washi-tape dispensers. πŸ˜› I cut and filed a thick wooden dowel to fit the drawer and then braced it between two felt chair pads stuck to the sides. It works pretty well!

studio 14

I keep random craft supplies in drawer #3. The little tin holds things like paper clips and erasers, in case you were wondering – it’s not chocolate, sadly. XD And nope, the supplies don’t always stay in a nice flat lay like this. XD

studio 15

In the next drawer I keep miscellaneous art supplies, like oil and artist’s pastels, watercolor crayons, fabric markers, fine-tip markers, and a pencil bag of crayons and other stuff.

studio 16

The bottom drawer contains some of my paper. (The larger watercolor paper pads and scrapbook paper are in the bookshelf.) I keep a tiny notebook for stuff like lists I want to jot down and tear out, and a larger notebook for more permanent things. I also have scrap paper and miscellaneous paper in the back.

studio 17

Alrighty, let’s move on to the pegboard which is ALSO from Ikea. Mine holds letters I need to reply to; Bible verse cards; a pencil sharpener; and containers of paintbrushes, Micron pens, brush pens, and pencils. Guys, you should really get that blue pencil sharpener. *nods* It’s only $5 on Amazon and it easily sharpens pencils to an unbelievably fine point! Also, those three art supply holders used to be Tootsie Roll containers, but I watercolored some paper to cover them and attached it with a glue stick and white washi tape. I think they turned out lovely!

studio 20

I also made this matching trash can with the same method, except I covered an oatmeal container. πŸ˜€ (By the way, it’s usually on the floor, not on my desk, heh heh.)

studio 24

Now turn around to… eh heh, my beautiful storage shelves. The top shelf is mostly polymer clay things; the middle shelf: beads, paint, containers, and Etsy stuff; and the bottom is… kind of just anything else. XD

studio 10

One of the “anything elses” on the bottom shelf is this letter organizer I made. I wrapped a shoebox in wrapping paper, attached a pretty hand-lettered label with washi tape, and divided it with cardboard dividers that stay in place by tabs with slits in them. I’m pretty pleased with this too! If you’re looking for some way to organize your many pen-pal letters, you should totally try something like this!

studio 36

Welp, that’s JUST about all. Before we finish the tour, though, I just wanted to add a few bonus photos of pretty details. Like this gorgeous plant my friend Aria gave me. I love it so much and it really livens up my studio. ❀ I’m not sure what kind it is, though.

studio 26

Heh heh, the colored pencil jars were too pretty to resist. πŸ˜‰

studio 22

See how sharp these pencils are?! They’re even sharper than they look when you actually use them! I’ve been waiting to sharpen the colored pencils until I could take pictures, and I finally did… and spent way too long sharpening every single one. XD

studio 23

Hmm, these still need to be sharpened, I guess.

studio 25

Here I am working at my nice new desk in my nice new studio with a nice new pencil a friend gave me and AHH IT’S GREAT. I’m actually typing this post in my studio right now with the desk lamp and fairy lights on. ❀

studio 32

And lastly but not leastly, I must have the before and after pictures, right?

studio 34studio 35

Oh my! The second one especially is QUITE a change! I much prefer this space as a studio than as a closet, don’t you? πŸ˜‰ I still want to add a couple of things, but for the most part, The Color Box Studio is DONE!

SO GUYS, WHAT DID YOU THINK? Do you love it as much as I do? What was your favorite part? Do you think you’ll try any the DIYs or products I mentioned? What would YOUR dream space look like?

Thank you ever so much for reading, dears, and have a lovely day!

***Allison***

P. S. This is the LAST WEEK of The Summer Bored Games! You only have a few more days to complete the final set of challenges before we post the winners! πŸ˜€ Check out K. A.’s post here.

I loved every single bit of it, especially the washi tape (I adore washi tape and have a collection almost as big as yours), the pen-pal files and the bulletin board! Was the little bike quote on there the one I sent you? It’s so pretty! AND AHH, YOUR PAINTING! The minute I saw it I thought it was gorgeous, you are such a talented artist! And wait, the fairy lights with the quotes and pics! *squeals* I adore those and have been wanting to get some *secretly wonders where I should go looking* Thanks so much for sharing this, your studio is absolutely gorgeous, so perfect and it suits you to a tee. πŸ˜€

    1. HA HA AWW. THANK YOU SOOO MUCH FOR THE LOVELY COMMENT. Yes, the bike quote is from you! ❀ I think it's so cute – thanks again for sending it to me! AWW WHY THANKS. Hee hee, I love the fairy lights too! I got mine at Walmart, but you can probably find some at stores like Hobby Lobby and maybe Home Depot too? And, of course, Amazon. πŸ˜‰

  2. Oh it’s SO GORGEOUS! I can’t wait until I can have my own organized pretty space again. πŸ™‚ We are in the process of switching around the bedrooms in the house so everyone can have our own space and I’m really excited cuz I haven’t had my own room in like almost 2 years. XD
And I wish I could have a pen pal. I tried with some of my friends, but they always get busy and forget about me so it never lasts very long. :/

    1. AHHH THANK YOU. WHOA, really? That is super exciting, oh my goodness! The only time I’ve had my own room was when I was the only child (and that didn’t last for long XD). I hope you get your space all set up beautifully!
Aww, that’s too bad. 😦 I would LOVE to be your pen pal, but I’m afraid that would happen with me too – I mean I’d never forget about you, of course, but I sadly can hardly keep up with my five pen pals as it is. *shakes head* I really hope you can find one, though, dear! ❀ And thanks for the comment!

      1. Well, I am an only child, but I have roommates, so that’s why I am excited about having my own room again cuz I had one for my whole life really, and I can get stressed out easily without my own organized space. XD
Wow. Five pen pals IS a lot! XD I don’t blame you.

  8. OH.MY.WORD. I love this Allison! This is totally my dream now! I have this huge walk in closet that I’m now contemplating turning into a studio…..wait. I can’t do that….I don’t have anywhere else to put my clothes (which only take up like a quarter of the closet. Sheets take up the rest! XD). Ok. I NEED AN ART STUDIO. NOW.
Anyway, it’s so bright and cheery in there! I especailly love the pen pal files, I have 13-14 penpals (I lost count at 8) so I am so overwhelmed with trying to keep them all organized! You have wonderful taste in organizing. Would you like to come organize my room and closet? XD LOVE IT!!!

The fairy lights look so pretty, and it made me smile to see my quotes on your wall. πŸ™‚ The geometric wallpaper looks AMAZING with your desk and all of the colorful art supplies, and the painting on the three canvases is incredible! Ahh, the whole studio just looks so bright and cozy. ❀
Also WOW, I love the "pen pal files" on your storage shelf! That's such a great idea – I just keep all of my pen pal's envelopes mixed up in a container. XD Everything looks so organized! If I had a studio, it would be anything but orderly. πŸ˜›
Overall, I am very jealous and can't wait to have my own studio one day. XD Yours looks so amazing – I bet it was so fun to decorate! πŸ™‚ Wonderful post!

I’m a bit ‘late to the party,’ πŸ˜‰ but I Loved seeing the tour of your art studio! It turned out so lovely and inspiring!
The windowsill plant is amazing, and your painting turned out so nicely as well. It’s really neat how you used three canvases!
I did like seeing your drawers ;-), and the washi tape organizer is really cool! Mine are piled inside, and outside, of a plastic container….
I also have a third drawer for random things, though it looks kind of like a bomb of crafts went off in there. I ought to do a deep clean of my desk. (I just recently, finally cleared the top of it! XD )
That’s also smart to use an oatmeal container for a trash can, and the pen pal file organizer is really neat!
Your studio turned out so pretty, and I enjoyed coming along for the tour! πŸ™‚ It’s fun to see how you organized everything so I can hopefully glean some ideas for my desk area πŸ˜€ .
Have fun enjoying your studio! What a blessing! πŸ˜€

HA HA! Your desk sounds kind of like Megan’s. XD It must be nice to have a clear top of your desk – it sure is for me after I’ve been working on a project.
