Shoot & Share Contest {My Entries}

Hello, dears!

Recently, one of my friends told me about this really neat photography contest called Shoot and Share. Have you heard of it? You can enter up to 50 photos in 25 different categories, and then people all over the world can vote for their favorites! I’ve quite enjoyed browsing the photos and gaining inspiration so far, and thought I’d show you guys some of the pictures I entered in case you’d like to vote too!(For my younger readers: please use caution since you occasionally come across some not-super-appropriate content on their website. :/ )

Almost all of these pictures have appeared on my blog at one time or another, but some look pretty different since I re-edited them before entering. Click on any of the images to see the original post from whence they came.

Now shall we begin? I’ll go by category to make this post a little more organized. 😉

Travel/Landscape

I took this photo the first time we spent the night at our new house, which was over a year ago. (Wow.) I still love it – the house and the photo. 😉

photo contest (46)

This one was taken at a similar time and place. I just LOVE sunsets over water!

photo contest (42)

Correction: I love sunsets over anything. XD Especially when accompanied by fog and cornfields.

photo contest (41)

This is the same cornfield later in the year. Ahh, straight rows of healthy, growing corn make me happy… and so did that evening of exploring the farm with my family. ❤

Kids

I took this one of my little sister a loooong time ago. This time I actually combined two images from the same photoshoot, which worked well!

photo contest (44)

Lifestyle/Documentary

I love this one! This was back in the old days when we got exhausted from stacking bales before we’d hardly started a load. :’D Since then, we’ve improved both our strength and our tactics; now it’s not bad at all.

photo contest (45)

I’ve been experimenting with black and white more lately. I think it adds “drama” or importance, if you know what I mean, as well a very pleasing contrast to portraits in particular. Also this photo is from when I went to visit my dear friend Aria. ❤

Pets/Animals

I entered the most photos into this category, and yep, they mostly featured bunnies. Heh. But LOOK AT THESE FURRY FACES. How could I not? Poor Snickers is gone, but he will live on forever in this adorable picture. 😛

photo contest (1)

Olaf can occasionally be quite a nice model, see? Good job, Laf. Looking stylish.

photo contest (2)

BUNNY IN A SCARF! AHHHHHHH.

photo contest (18)

BUNNY IN A HAT. (Yes, that mass of fluff is, indeed a rabbit.) AHHHHHH.

photo contest (24)

Baby bunnies are quite possibly the most precious animals ever. *heart eyes* If you’re in the mood to be overwhelmed by extreme cuteness, click any of these rabbit pictures to see some adorable photoshoots.

photo contest (26)

Heh, SUBJECT CHANGE. Sorry if I startled you there. XD Tom isn’t exactly as heart-melting as our rabbits, but his eyes are quite beautiful, especially as seen with a macro lens.

photo contest (43)

Creative Projects

It was so sad to cut down several of the majestic trees in our backyard, but as you can see, it was time. I’m not sure I actually posted this photo, but I posted some like it in the post to which the picture is linked. I really should have put this photo in the “Lifestyle/Documentary” category, but oh well.

photo contest (36)

This might be the best snowflake picture I’ve ever gotten! I hope it snows again so I can get more. 🙂

photo contest (15)

Families

Ooh, I LOVE this one! We used it for our Christmas card this year. 🙂

photo contest 2

Heh heh, this one is pretty funny. My dad and oldest brother accidentally wore matching Fendt shirts, and then happened to be playing croquet together and standing in the same way. XD

photo contest (27)

People Portraits

I believe I took this picture the same day as the previous one, when we hosted Mom’s side of the family for Grandpa and Grandma’s 50th anniversary celebration. We all had SO much fun, including Grandpa. 😀

photo contest (31)

Here’s that super weird self-portrait from when I had long (and frizzy) hair. XD It was SO fun to edit.

photo contest (35)

Emotion/Excitement

We shall end with a fun one. Not super quality, but hilarious. XD We were exploring this stream with our friends when Megan decided to dunk under. Jeff said he would too, but would have changed his mind if we hadn’t held him to it on our return trip. :’D

photo contest (38)

And that’s it for now! I entered a bunch more, but I didn’t want to make this post too long. 😉 I hope you enjoyed looking through my entries!

Which photo was your favorite? Do you like black and white portraits or color portraits better? Have you heard of the Shoot and Share contest?

Thanks so much for reading, dears, and have a lovely day!

***Allison***

P. S. GUYS I ALMOST HAVE 5,000 FOLLOWERS! I’m thinking of doing a Farm Life Q&A + a giveaway, maybe? What do you think? Any suggestions for what I should give away?

    1. Thank you so muuuch! For the snowflake photo, I used some macro lens extension tubes, and then cropped the picture and edited it and the background to clean it up a little. 🙂
Sadly it’s not still open for entries, but I hope you have fun voting!

  4. Oh these are all so beautiful! As always. 😉
I really like the black and white photos, but color is good too. It depends on the picture for what looks better I guess? Idk you’re the photographer. XD
OH CONGRATS ALLISON!! 😀 A Q&A and a giveaway would be so fun! You should give away art and pen pal stuff like you did last time! That was really cool, even though I didn’t win. XD

  5. YAY SHOOT AND SHARE! I love voting on there and seeing all of the amazing photography. 😀 Your entries are amazing, oh my goodness! My favorites are the first one of the snowy pond, Carmen blowing bubbles, ALL THE BUNNIES, and the close-up snowflake. 🙂 Do you have any way of seeing how far along your photos have made it in the voting? I loved seeing your entries!

  6. Alisooooooooon.

I’ve tried reaching out to you a couple of times.
I am making a PENPAL service.

I saw your penpal post and I believe you’re JUST what I’m looking for.

I need a social media guru. (You)

I don’t know why I chose the word guru. BUT, it seems you have what it takes to enthusiastically run a penpal social media account.

    Please contact me 🙂

    1. Hey, Joshua!
Aww, I am honored that you want me to help you with your business. That sounds so neat! Unfortunately, I don’t think I have the time or experience right now to do that. 😦 I’m sorry to disappoint you! I hope you find someone else and that your business is a success!

  7. Okay Allison dear, how on earth did you edit the above picture where your eyes and lips really stood out? I’m quite new to the editing business, and I thought that picture was so cool!

    1. Thank you, my friend! I used picmonkey.com to “paint” the whole picture black and white except my lips and eyes, and then brightened them by increasing the color and contrast and such. 🙂 For pictures like that, I just like to play around until I get a good result!

          1. I finally figured out PicMonkey, but how do you send it to people?!!!!! Do you seriously have to have a subscription?!

            Like

            1. Oh yes, you have to buy it. *sniff* I forgot to mention that before! I think it’s about $30/year, which is a really good price compared to Photshop, Lightroom, etc. It’s definitely worth it if you edit a lot. If you don’t, there are plenty more free editing sites out there, like Canva.com!

              1. I looked at Canva.com, but I couldn’t find anything that I could edit a photo with. Only things like posters, flyers etc. Help?

                1. OH WHOOPS. Actually my sister said she doesn’t think you can use Canva for photo editing after all. O.o SOOORRRRY. I don’t use anything but Picmonkey, so. XD I do know for a fact that pixlr.com is a free editing site, though! Hopefully that will work for you. 😉

                  1. Lol, I was wondering! Thanks anyway! I’ll try to find a free editing site, that or buy a years subscription to PicMonkey – which I REALLY like! Thanks for your generous help, dear!! XD
