Our Baby Girl Nursery Tour (…Kinda)

I’m so excited to finally share pictures of Sophia’s nursery! Well, it’s not exactly a nursery – it’s more like two separate “baby nooks” in two rooms of our house. I’ll explain more about that later. Anyway, I’ve had so much fun making and painting things for these spaces and I think they turned out really cute.

Read on for inspiration on small-space nurseries, as well as some affiliate links to my favorite products.

We’ll start with the “official” nursery. Here’s a rather gray phone photo of how it looks so far since I don’t have a wide-angle lens for my camera.

Our rental is two-bedroom/one-bath, and currently the second bedroom is my art studio. Since I’m still planning to run my Etsy shop after the baby is born, we decided to use just half of the room as nursery. It’s a little messy beyond the frame of this picture, but I don’t think she’ll mind. 🙂

I decluttered some art stuff and moved a bookshelf to the basement, keeping this one for allll the diapers I was gifted, heh. I hung a baby blanket over the front to make it look less utilitarian. In between the shelf and crib I have a basket of blankets and wraps, as well as a nursing pillow.

This canopy is probably my favorite thing in the nursery – it really defines the space and makes it look cute and special instead of like a random crib in someone’s office. 😛 Plus Sophia can enjoy it when she grows into a big girl bed too! You can find it on Amazon here.

I also really like the crib we chose. It’s a mini crib for space efficiency, but can be converted into a bed  for toddlers and older kids as well. Find it here.

My mother- & sister-in-law made this special blanket, or “woolly” as they call it, with Sophia’s name embroidered on it. Such a sweet family tradition.

I recently repainted and decorated some thrifted wooden chairs. I hope to sell them one day, but I thought this pink one would go nicely beside her crib in the meantime. The colors are similar to an adorable gifted woodland tote I use as a toy/book bin. The watercolor swatches hanging on the wall will probably be replaced by nursery art at some point.

One last little addition is this over-the-door organizer for random baby hygiene stuff. It was originally supposed to hang in the bathroom, but that space is SO tiny I just decided to keep it nearby in the nursery.

Now for the “other nursery,” a.k.a. our bedroom. We’re planning for Sophia to sleep with us for at least several months to make night feedings and postpartum recovery easier. Eventually we’ll move all the nursery stuff into her actual nursery, so I’ll probably do another tour whenever that happens. 🙂

This is the view walking in. We rearranged the layout to make room for the bassinet so it’s a little tight now, but it works fine! The cow Squishmallow is a gift from a friend and currently doubles as my pregnancy pillow. XD

My favorite view of this nursery space. ❤ I love how the colors coordinate and look very girl-ish, yet aren’t overpoweringly candy-pink.

DSC_4469

I made these flowers for Megan’s bridal shower and was able to use the pink-toned ones to decorate this wall! I shared the tutorial for how to make them here if you’re interested.

Megan gave me this beautiful mobile holder for my birthday, so of course I had to make a mobile for it. I used an embroidery hoop to hang carefully cut and painted watercolor paper butterflies.

Another sweet detail of this space (which may have to be moved once the baby actually comes) is this adorable crocheted bunny one of the girls at church made for Sophia. Isn’t it darling?

You can find this dresser/changing table and changing pad both on Amazon with those affiliate links. I knew I didn’t want two pieces of furniture when I could use one for both! I had fun filling the top drawer with diapers and wipes and the other two with cute baby clothes. I also painted flowers on the knobs to make it a bit more special.

DSC_4468

Beside the dresser is this handy rolling cart which is already overflowing, haha. I imagine stuff will get rearranged as we see what we need most often, but for now, the top layer has pajamas and swaddles for easy access, the middle has breastfeeding and postpartum care items, and the bottom is… oh wait, also nursing stuff, haha.

DSC_4486

I may regret not having a rocking chair and and need to swap out one from the living room, but for now I have this thrifted pink velvet armchair that was already in our bedroom. Above it I hung the paintings I made of Sophia’s ultrasounds. ❤ I also offer them on my Etsy shop here (though I’m about to close shop for a little while).

DSC_4480

I was going to get a regular trashcan instead of a diaper pail, but this one was inexpensive enough I figured I might as well get it. The backpack isn’t going to stay there forever; it’s just the bag I’m taking to the birth center with extra clothes for everyone and such. 😉

DSC_4473

I couldn’t resist putting a few baby books in our bedroom too, along with a cute little Cambodian elephant my aunt gave me. I finally got blackout curtains for both Sophia’s sake and ours, since the sun comes in pretty strongly in the morning with this new bed arrangement.

DSC_4472

Our dresser setup looks pretty much the same as always, except our alarm clock died and the new one I got is also a speaker, nightlight, and white noise machine. It was cheaper than the Hatch and seems to do pretty much the same thing.

DSC_4489

My current plan is for Sophia to sleep in the bassinet version of this playpen for a few months before transferring her to the crib in the nursery. We’ll see how that actually plays out, but it seems like a good option to start with.

DSC_4490

This isn’t really part of the nursery, but since the colors of our bedroom are now very clearly pink and green, the purple and black canvas art I originally hung didn’t match anymore. So I painted a new canvas and absolutely love how it turned out!

DSC_4492

And there you have it – our nursery tour! Or more like our two half-nursery tours! 😀 It would have been fun to set up a whole dedicated room, but Sophia is not going to care and this is just what works best for us right now. Like I said, I’ll have to post an update when we move the changing table and such out of our bedroom later on.

What were your favorite parts of the nursery spaces?

Thanks so much for reading, my friends, and have a lovely day!

  1. Everything looks organized well for a newborn and very pretty! Love the flowers and butterfly mobile!! Oh, and a diaper pail will be much appreciated, especially in your bedroom! A little less odor 😆

    1. Yay, glad to hear it! They were so fun to make. Hehe yeah, I’ve heard varying reviews about the difference diaper pails make in odor control, but I’m glad I got one just in case. 😉

  3. Oh, Allison, you’re so talented!!!! You’re so creative to make spaces not only adaptable but really cozy too.

I love that you re-used the paper flowers from Megan’s bridal shower. And that mobile is just beautiful! Every touch you added is so special. Aww, what a sweet crocheted bunny!

The word that comes to mind for Sophia’s nursery areas is gentle. There’s something peaceful about it. 🙂

I hope you’re continuing to do well and get needed rest before Sophia’s arrival. I’m so happy for you and Sully! God bless, friend!

  5. Oh! It is all so delightful! Having a baby now is so different than in the 60’s and 70’s when I had my babies! They are 56 and 51! I remember walking from the doctor’s office across the base…we lived in Bitburg, Germany for three years and Erika was born on November 14, 1968. I remember thinking that I could not believe that I was pregnant! Blessings to you and your family Allison😘
