Etcetera 27 {Rainy Days, Finger Painting, & an Announcement}

Hey friends! Long time no see! I haven’t been posting on here very often because of an exciting new development: I’m attempting to simplify my digital presence (wow that sounds fancy) by combining most of my social media and WordPress content into one Substack account.

That means, going forward, I may not be very active on this blog. I know that sounds sad and like the end of an era, but really it’s just a continuation of this blog, but on a new platform. Nowadays Substack seems to be the place for long-form written content, while WordPress… well, the blogging community here just isn’t what it was 5-10 years ago. And I miss that.

If you’ve been a long time reader, thank you from the bottom of my heart for supporting a blog that has literally changed my life for the better. I hope you’ll subscribe (for free!) to the new version of this blog right here on Substack, where I can not only share my photography and writing, but shorter notes, small poems, and chats with you guys in the comments. And I may still pop back on here once in a while, as WordPress is still a great place to share certain types of informational posts.

Anyway! I thought I would close this chapter of my blog with a crowd favorite: a massive miscellaneous photo dump collected over many months. Enjoy! 🙂

Super Simple Sourdough Loaf (Tips & Tricks for Beginners)

If you know me, you know I love my sourdough starter. A couple of friends recently asked for some of my starter, along with tips and tricks for bread making. Sourdough tutorials already litter the internet, but most are unnecessarily complicated. So I created a little printable for my friends with all the information you need to know to get started, but not too much information to be overwhelming. Today I want to share those resources with you guys too!

If you’ve wanted to explore sourdough but feel intimidated, or if you could use a few tips to streamline your process, read on! This recipe uses only three ordinary ingredients, needs no special tools to create, and doesn’t require constant babysitting. It’s the perfect beginner loaf – and tasty enough to make for years to come.

A Visit with the Cows

If you’ve been following my blog for a long time, you’ll know I used to live on a dairy/poultry/crop farm. I’ve missed the myriad photography opportunities that entails. My family still lives on a farm, though, and Sully’s family owns a raw milk operation comprising several small dairies. I got to photograph their cows the other day which brought back many fond memories. 🙂

Enjoy this sunny farm photoshoot!

Sophia Joy {One Year!}

It’s official – we no longer have a baby! Sophia is a big girl at one year old now. ❤ We had a fun little party on her birthday: her cousins joined us at the local splash pad, then had a picnic with strawberry shortcake back at our house. Sophia had a blast, and I was glad we did something to celebrate this big milestone.

Of course, I also had to do one last monthly photoshoot. ❤ I hope you enjoy these pictures!

Sophia Joy {11 Months}

This month’s Sophia photoshoot is a little briefer than normal. It has been an insane week between tons of appointments, preparing for vacation and Sully’s birthday, and especially my granddaddy finally passing away after a long battle with leukemia…

I still wanted to do a photoshoot of our little sunshine baby to celebrate her eleventh month. We managed to stay out in the crazy heat for long enough to get a few cute pictures. Enjoy!

Adventures in Sewing & Embroidery

I’m excited to make a crafty post again – it’s been so long! I’ve recently gotten back into sewing now that I have a baby to make cute clothes for. 🙂 I used to sew tons of quilts and small projects growing up, but I never really explored clothing. I have learned so much with each piece for sure!

Today I wanted to share the projects I’ve done so far since you guys said you’d be interested in seeing them. 🙂 Read on for baby clothes, a few pieces for myself, and some cute embroidery ideas.
