A Small Yard & Garden Tour

Hello friends!

In the last post I gave you guys a house tour, so I thought I’d follow it up with a little walk around my yard and garden. I live in a neighborhood right outside of town, so my yard isn’t large. And due to outrageously brazen groundhogs and a sad lack of weeding, my garden is struggling a bit.

However! You know me – I love looking for bits of beauty and nature everywhere, even in a regular suburban yard. So enjoy the result of my searches. 🙂

Homemaking Tips + a Little Home Update

Hello friends!

One of my very favorite things is making our house into a home. I adore decorating, cooking, gardening, and “keeping house” so that every space feel cozy and welcoming.

Today I wanted to show you around my home plus share tips and tricks to save money and live better! (Nope, not a Walmart ad.) You certainly don’t need to do all this stuff to have a nice home, but being efficient and resourceful brings me joy for some reason, so I thought I’d share in case it thrills you too. 🙂

Enjoy these pretty pictures of one of my favorite places to be.

Lake Adventures {Boating, Tubing, & a Chocolate Milk Mishap}

Hello friends!

My whole family spent last weekend at Smith Mountain Lake – boating, kayaking, swimming, tubing, water-skiing… It was great fun! And we were so sore afterward, haha.

Enjoy a post full of pretty lakescapes (is that a word?), fun action shots, and hilarious expressions. 😀

A Peek into an Artist’s Sketchbook

Hello friends!

As a freelance artist and Etsy seller, my personal sketchbook usually takes a backseat. Most of my best pieces are the ones I sell or paint as custom commissions. The rough sketches and pieces I’m least proud of are in a notepad dedicated to art planning.

My personal sketchbook falls somewhere in between. It’s full of failed experiments as well as successful new ideas, unexpected masterpieces plus some… interesting random doodles. It’s a place for play. But you know what? Whether art is your job or your hobby, “playing” is an important part of improving your skills while keeping it fresh and fun.

So today I want to show you all the sketchbook spreads I’ve completed this year – the good, the bad, and the ugly. Check out my art Instagram account @thecolorboxstudio and my Etsy shop for pieces I’m proud of, but I thought it might be interesting to share a “behind the scenes” view here. 🙂 Enjoy!

I thought I’d share some of my favorite shots with you guys today for your enjoyment. 🙂

A Collection of Poems & Golden Skies

Hello friends!

It’s been a long, long time since I shared my poetry on this blog. I’ve been writing a lot these past few months in preparation for an exciting project, and decided to post a small collection of favorites as a sneak peek for you guys. I mostly write blank verse – a.k.a. non-rhyming poetry – so if that bothers you, feel free to read this as prose instead. 😉

Either way, I hope you enjoy these poems and the accompanying golden hour photos!

Kendall & Matt {Melrose Caverns Wedding Photography}

Hello friends!

I got to second-shoot a wedding with my aunt back in June at the beautiful Melrose Caverns venue. (Yes, we actually got pictures inside the caverns!) If I shared all my favorite photos from the day it would take like three posts, but I managed to condense them into just one.

This mainly ended up being a portrait gallery of the bride, groom, and wedding party rather than the events of the wedding, but that’s because there were so many pretty and hilarious shots. Enjoy!
