Family Beach Vacation, Part 3 {Sea Storms & Sunrises}

Hello friends!

At Vero Beach, Sully and I witnessed a dramatic storm over the ocean – SO cool. A few days later, some of our group watched a sunrise over the water together. Both landscapes were epic, so obviously I needed a separate post for all the photos I took. 🙂 I also included a bonus sunset + beachy morning light pictures.

Enjoy these sensational views!

We’ll start with a phone photo because it captures the contrast (even greater than this picture shows) of relatively bright sky on one side and then deep, dark clouds on the other. And wild waves.

I edited these photos to be dark on purpose, but also it really was quite dark outside.

I like how you scroll through this picture from slightly blue sky to threatening clouds to two tiny people braving the elements.

The contrast of the white, wind-whipped wave crests with the dark sky. :O

I think this was the first time I’ve witnessed a storm over the ocean. It was a powerful experience for sure. And of course photos don’t convey the angry atmosphere very well.

Now let’s switch to the ocean in a much calmer state: a progression of gradual brightening sunrise.

Isn’t this gorgeous?!

Anna and Sheridan probably posting their second BeReals. 🙂 We were all a bit sleepy since the sunrise was at about 6:30.

There were many more people walking the beach at sunrise than there were during the storm, heh. They kinda got in the way of pictures but also made for some good ones, so oh well.

I was honestly delighted by the creamy morning light almost as much as the sunrise itself. It highlighted the brown heaps of seaweed and made them rather pretty.

I quickly snapped this shadow shot of our group as we headed back to the condos.

Everything was so warm and glowy that I stayed outside a while longer and got a few more shots of Florida goodness.

There’s something about negative-space sky and palm trees, you know?

I couldn’t resist some nature shots of the dewy pink hibiscus bushes.

As a bonus, here’s the glorious sunset that marked the evening of The Great Plague, a.k.a. when almost all of us got a horrific stomach bug. :[] More on that in the next and last post in this series. For now, enjoy these incredible colors.

Look at this glorious, glowing cloud!

And a phone shot. All the camera pictures turned out more orange than pink, hm.

We’ll end with this spectacular, slanted sky. It really was breathtaking. A good last piece of beauty to carry us through the hard night ahead, haha.

I hope these landscapes brightened your day with their beauty and majesty! I feel like nothing conveys a sense of God’s power and glory quite like a stormy ocean or a brilliant sunset, you know? I felt blessed to witness them for sure.

Would you rather watch an ocean storm or sunrise?

Thanks so much for reading, my friends, and have a lovely day!

  3. Such beautiful pictures of God’s creation! They’re all so lovely, it’s hard to choose a favorite. But I really liked the two solitary people walking on the beach during the storm. And the one that you called creamy morning light was so pretty!
I do have a certain fear of the ocean, so I’d prefer watching an ocean sunrise….but it’d be neat to witness a storm-just to say I saw one, haha!
    Thanks for sharing, Allison!

    1. Those are excellent choices – two of my favorites for sure too.
The ocean can certainly be frightening. But both phenomenons are spectacular to witness nonetheless. Thanks for commenting, Valentine!

  4. My mouth actually dropped open when I saw the last picture. Its glorious!
That and the picture of the glowing cloud reminds me of a description I saw on a similar sunset picture once, “a rent in the time-space continuum.”
I think I would want to see a storm over the sea because I never have, and I’ve seen many sunrises.

    1. Ah that is such a compliment! ❤ It was a glorious sunset to be sure. My mouth dropped in real life too, haha.
That's a good caption. It does look rather magical.
Yeah that's exactly how I'd feel, although I still love sunrises and haven't seen that many of them.
