Hello friends!
Sully and I took a day trip to Richmond’s Canal Walk a while back and I got some fun street photography pictures to share with you. Read on for a bridal gondola, a rope swing into the river, aesthetic cacti, and lush “hanging gardens.”
We walked around the town for a bit first and I got some street photography shots, including these two pairs that coordinated very nicely. 🙂
And this guy taking out the trash. I enjoy making a photography out of ordinary moments.
Street drummer! It was hard to hear his playing with everything else going on but I bet he was good but not as good as my brother Jeff, hehe.
I took this picture out the car window because the colors and such reminded me of a movie.
Details from a historic old theater that has seen better days but is still beautiful.
Sully had been wanting to take me on the Canal Walk for quite a while. We chose rather a hot Saturday to do it, but it was still fun. Richmond has an interesting blend of nature (especially rivers and canals) and city architecture.
I took this picture mainly for that ADORABLE little girl in a sunhat. Can you find her?
You can take a gondola tour of the canals, which we saw several groups doing.
Including a bridal party! 🙂 You can just barely see the “bride” sash in this picture.
Beautiful snowball bushes lining the side of the water.
A tent under the bridge. This spot made me a little sad.
Then we found a beautiful, if a bit neglected, spot where vines and trees made what looked like hanging gardens on this apartment building.
Here’s a full-length picture because I couldn’t decide which was better. 😛 So green and lush!
We walked part of the footbridge over the river and spotted some waterbirds. Kinda hard to get good pictures of them from that distance though.
Another neat combination of nature and city architecture.
We saw a group of boys enjoying this rope swing with the graffit warning “swing at own risk.”
There were SO many people I wanted to photograph at Brown’s Island, but I felt a bit conspicuous so I mostly didn’t. I did get this cute girl on a tricycle though!
Ooh yes, we passed this couple on a bench several times and I really wanted to get a picture of them because they were really cute, maybe on a first date it seemed like, and I loved the woman’s magnificent hair. But we were always too close to be polite. So I finally got one from farther away upon returning to our car and I was thrilled. 😀
We found a cool spot where the path passed by a large collection of cacti blooming in brilliant yellow.
This door made a perfect frame from the outside.
I asked Sully to pose in the doorway and this is what he did. 😛 Haha, ohhh Sully.

I took this picture solely for the large potted plant on one of the balconies.
We’ll end with one of the prettiest from the day, in my opinion. I really like how this edit turned out.
I’m glad I finally got around to sharing this day! I really enjoy street photography and candid portraits but don’t do them very often. I want to try more in the future for sure.

Lovely pictures. I especially liked the snowballs, the blossoms on the prickly pear cactus, and the picture of the talking couple–but mostly for the amazing murals in the background.

This was fun, Allison! Oh, that little girl in the sunhat is precious! With my imagination, she looks like she’s a little pioneer!
Love the hanging greenery by the water; it makes me think of an old European village maybe. Beautiful flowers on the cacti!!!

To answer your question: nope, no swinging over water for me, thank you! Haha! I’m not a very good swimmer anyway. 😉

These are a wonderful insight into a very different Richmond to the one I grew up in – Richmond, Surrey UK. But the hair, garbage guy and kid on push bike are not much different. Less cacti and high rise though. But walks along the River Thames. Thanks for your candid insights, quite inspiring and Restless Jo for linking.
