This winter is working hard to make up for the past several snowless ones. We just got snow again yesterday, and this time I went out to capture individual snowflakes with my macro lens. I hope you enjoy the results of my cold photoshoot, plus another batch of unpublished snow pictures from an earlier storm.
Look how lacy and delicate this beauty is!

I used Sully’s wool trench coat as the background. Something fuzzy or textured helps the flakes melt more slowly because there are fewer points of contact than if they fell flat onto a black paper, for instance.

I think it’s so cool I can actually capture these with my camera. I used this super inexpensive macro lens extension (aff. link), which I highly recommend.

And here’s a collage of all my favorite snowflakes (a couple of which I may have photographed twice in different stages of melting, oops). I’m so pleased with these!

Okay, now for some sunny shots from the prettiest of our snows so far.

This was quite a big snow, for our area at least!

Isn’t it cool how perfectly snow can hold impressions? So crisp and clear.

It’s crazy how big snows like this will coat even the tiniest leaves and branches. What a balancing act!

Love this one. The brick adds a nice pop of color.

Another of my favorites. Our landlord’s shed is quite picturesque in the snow.

Some sort of animal tracks under the pear tree.

Man do I love the background blur I get with my 50mm lens. So soft and creamy. 😀

Little curlicue basking in the sun.

I kept trying to capture the glittering showers of snow falling from the branches and finally managed it.

Snow hats for the dead basil spikes, heh.

And we’ll end with the always-aesthetic string lights on our porch. 🙂

I can’t resist the rare photo opportunities snow gives me, even when I just photographed it a couple weeks ago. 😛 So I hope you enjoyed these dreamy winter shots!
Thanks so much for reading, my friends, and have a lovely day!

P. S. Photos taken with my Nikon D7200, a 50mm lens, and these lens extensions (aff. link).

These are all so really pretty! The ones you got of the snowflakes with the macro lens are amazing!

Wow, such amazing photos. We tend to miss the snow with living close to the coast. I would love to do a similar photoshoot but I can’t see us getting enough even though it’s forecast to snow tomorrow.

Beautiful! I always love snow photos like these. I always try to do at least one snow photoshoot per winter, because the snow makes everything look so aesthetic. 🙂

Yes, I agree! It’s almost like a magical fantasy world, the way snow transforms everything.

Oh, what perfect little snowflakes! That was smart about using Sully’s coat.
Such pretty snow! One of my favorite pictures is the one where it looks like a little tree is leaning over with the snow. And those string lights look so cozy!
I haven’t had a good week. Our family has been sick with colds a lot (yesterday was the worst for me). Plus, we’ve had a lot of cloudy days. This afternoon we finally got sun! Such a blessing! And then I read your lovely post! 🙂
Thank you for the lovely pictures, Allison! Hope you and your family are well. God bless you, friend!
