I’m Allison, and I’m so happy to see you here! Let me start by telling you a bit about my blog, and then I’ll introduce myself more properly. 🙂

About this Blog

I started this blog in May of 2014, mainly because my sister Megan had to start a blog for school, and it looked so fun that I made one too.  Blogging has been a big part of my life for 7 years now. I love this community – that means you guys! ❤

As you can probably tell from its title, this is a lifestyle blog. I mainly post about photography, adventures on the farm, art, and writing, but if something else interesting pops up, I’ll probably stick that in too! I hope my blog can shine a little ray of sunshine into your inbox and your day. 🙂 I write posts to bring myself and you guys joy, but most importantly, to bring God glory.

About the Blogger

I’m a 21-year-old Christian, artist, photographer, writer, and blogger. I also enjoy playing piano, exploring our farm, and just creating things in general. I live on a farm in Eastern U. S. A. with my amazing family and a collection of pets.

Here are some more facts about me, in no particular order:

We used to live on a dairy+poultry farm (shown above), but we moved to a different farm in early 2018.  The farm we live on now is about 450 acres, and we also own a 250-acre farm about five minutes down the road. We kinda live in the middle of nowhere, and that’s just how we like it. 🙂

I call myself a farm girl simply because I live on a farm and love it. I love all of the wonderful space to explore, I love watching the crops grow and get harvested, I love having my dad come in for every meal and hearing what he did that day, and I love the many wonderful farm traditions that I get to participate in.

I have loved the color purple for practically my whole life. I also like cool colors in general… actually I JUST LOVE COLORS.

I’m the oldest of five kids: I have two brothers, Logan and Jefferson; and two sisters, Megan and Carmen. Megan has a blog as well.

We have a fluctuating number of pets, but currently we have one dog, two cats, five rabbits, and one miniature goat.

Authentic, deep conversations are one of my favorite things. But also laughter.

Some more things I love: stars and sunsets; making art; Romans and Psalms (and the whole Bible, of course); NEEEDTOBREATHE and Switchfoot’s music; handwritten letters; wildflowers and houseplants; fruit of all kinds; good books; cameras; the beach; friendly debates; and the scent of honeysuckle or lavender.

I enjoy listening to, playing, and singing music. I can only play one instrument – the piano – but I adore playing it.

I like words in various forms – in a book, in a word game, in writing (especially poems), and also just in talking.

Capturing and creating beauty is what I strive to do through any means I can – art, photography, and writing. I find beauty everywhere I look, and I can’t wait to see the shadows of loveliness on earth fulfilled in Heaven.

I went to private school through third grade, and was homeschooled from 4th-12th. They were both great experiences, but I prefer homeschooling. 🙂 Now that I’m out of school, I spend most of my time either working on the farm for my dad or making/selling/teaching art, whether through giving private art lessons or running my Etsy shop, The Color Box Studio.

Probably the first thing you’d notice about me is that I’m very tall: 5′ 11″. My whole family is tall, actually. My brothers are both taller than me now… *sniff*

I LOVE BOOKS. Always have, always will. A few of my favorites are The Mysterious Benedict Society series, the Anne of Green Gables series, the Narnia series, A Severe Mercy, Jane Eyre, and the Little House books. Classics are one of my favorite genres, if you can call it that.

I’m an introvert, but being with my friends makes me happy, and I’d probably be quite animated and smile-y if you met me. I have kind of a two-sided personality – I’m imaginative but practical, serious but funny, and logical but still feel deeply. I see two sides to everything.

You can often find me in my studio (picture above), making art, writing letters to pen pals, reading, or doing stuff on the computer. However, I LOVE nature, and one of my favorite things to do is explore the farm with my family.

Last but definitely not least, I believe in the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. I believe we are all sinners in desperate need of God’s grace, and that we’re saved by trusting in Jesus for salvation, by faith alone. I am passionate about my faith and could talk theology for hours, but that won’t all fit into an “About Me” page. If you want to know more about what I believe, please feel free to ask!

    1. Ok! I’m not sure that I am going to do it because these next few weeks are really busy because we’re going on vacation in about a week, and before then we need to get caught up with the garden, but thank you for taking the time to tell me! ☺☺☺

    1. I know, it seems crazy! But we do have that many. It takes a long time to gather all the eggs, but not as long as you might think because the eggs come out on conveyor belts and we just pick them off of the belt instead of walking through the chicken house and finding them all. It still takes a long time, though! Thankfully we have help, so we don’t have to gather them all by ourselves. Aww, I bet your chicks are so cute!

    1. XD Yeah, I know. We just get the same number of chickens every year, but some die along the way. 😦 We get a new set of chickens about once a year.

  18. Hi, I started following your blog. 🙂 I like finding other blogs with photography, so I think I’ll enjoy yours!
    I used to sort of be a farm girl… we had a 40 acre hobby farm in Minnesota, with cows, sometimes chickens, and a few other animals on occasion. I didn’t do much though. We moved, so now I’m just a country girl. 😉
    I use lots of smiley faces too! 😀

  21. Your blog is so cute! I sort of live on a farm, because it used to be a farm but then loads of houses were built on it, but I can still go walking in the fields near by! I love it 🙂

        1. Okay! Ahem.
          Go to your WordPress admin Dashboard. (Just add /wp-admin/ to the end of your blog URL.) Find the “Users” tab, and select “My Profile.” The page that pops up will have a square that says “Current Gravatar” or something like that. Click change your Gravatar, and it will open a new page and lead you through how to upload a picture. After that just click “Update Profile” on your Users page.
          Sorry if that was kind of confusing! If you have any more questions about that, please ask!

            1. Alrighty.
              1. I’ve been blogging for about two years – ever since May 2014.
              2. I think it would be a lot of fun to start a photography Etsy shop, but I already have one (Wee Little Crafts), so I’ll have to think about that. But yes, I would love to do that!
              3. A lot of work. XD We have a full-time employee who does most of the egg gathering, but we have to help on weekends and at the beginning of the flock when we have to weigh the eggs. It’s also fun to watch how surprised people are when we tell them how many chickens we have. XD
              4. I love photographing most anything, but especially nature and close-up things. I enjoy opening up the often unnoticed world of small details through photography. 🙂
              5. My biggest achievement has definitely been being featured (twice!) on WordPress Discover. That has been a huge honor for me!
              6. I like showing through my nature photographs what a wonderful, wonderful world our God has created. I mean, how could all of that just happen? It would be amazing if my God used my nature photos to help my readers to become more aware and observant of God’s beautiful world, and to be ready to point that out to others.
              7. I’m pretty sure the main reason I started this blog was that my sister had one before me and it looked like too much fun to miss out on. 🙂

    Being an Indian, don’t know much about farms. May be through you, I may come to know about your farm and culture.

        1. Nope, it’s not that hard – we go to co-op (where we do things like Art and Spanish) every Friday with our friends, and we meet friends at church each week. Also, our cousins live just down the lane, so we play with them often too. 🙂

  33. Hello, Allison. It is good to meet you. 🙂 I also am a Christian, a grandmother of four and mother of two grown girls. I enjoyed see and reading about your pets, and farm life, and also Lilly. My daughter used to have rabbits when they were little. We have a dog named, Maggie too. She is part Chou and part Australian cattle dog, and a real sweetheart. 🙂 My son-in-law has just started a farmer job, farming in WY., near Lingle and Torrington. It is a passion he has and a dream he’s always had; to farm and own some farming land. I wish you and your family all the best in your farming there in Virginia.   34. Good for you! What a great thing to be doing with your time. I am so glad I found your blog. My sister homeschooled both of her children and they are smarter, more well-traveled and socialized than the rest of us. 🙂 I am a Christian and an animal advocate (that is what my blog is about) and I have a huge problem with factory farms. I am glad to hear about your family farm.
