I Got a New Camera Lens! {+Photo Dump}

Hmm, I’ve made better titles. *Wince* You know you’re a photographer when you’re that excited over a new camera lens. XD BUT SERIOUSLY! I AM EXCITED!

I just ordered a new lens for my camera, and I am loving it! It’s a Nikkor 50 mm f/1.8 lens (see it here on Amazon),ย in case you were wondering. ๐Ÿ™‚ *Update: Whoops, Iย accidentally said “zoom lens”ย at first, but I don’t think it’s actually aย zoom lens. O.o*ย ย I love all the beautiful blur and bokeh it makes in the background with the subject in sharp focus. The one thing I don’t like is that I can’t get super close-up pictures unless I crop them smaller. But anyway, I’ll keep experimenting, and in the meantime, how would you like to see about a million or so pictures? Okay, maybe closer to a thousand, but still. ๐Ÿ˜‰ ๐Ÿ˜›

First I want to show you the difference between my old lens and myย new lens. The next (awful) picture was taken with my old lens at ISO 800.

DSC_1925 (1280x853)

TERRIBLE! But the next picture was taken with my new lens at ISO 800. It’s so much brighter because it goes down to an aperture of 1.8 instead of 4 something, which means it lets in a ton more light and thus makes the entire picture brighter. Ta-daa! (Okay, I know it still isn’t a beautiful picture, but my youngest brother kindly broughtย the iris in for me to take pictures ofย with my newย lensย and Iย decided to experiment.ย ๐Ÿ™‚ ) So in conclusion,ย thisย new lens isย way better for indoor photography and other low-light situations.

Now for the actually pretty pictures. ๐Ÿ™‚ Get ready for lots of raindrops, snails, and flowers!

DSC_1930 (1280x853)

I had to up the ISO quite a bit here so it’s kind of grainy, but I still like it. ๐Ÿ™‚

DSC_1944 (1280x853)DSC_1947 (1280x853)DSC_1949 (1280x853)

Ohhhh this next one is one of my favorites!

As you can see, it was getting pretty dark when I took this picture. I think it looks kind of neat that way though!

DSC_1998 (1280x853)

I gotย quite a fewย pictures of this cute little snail meandering over a bush. ๐Ÿ™‚

1 (1280x853)2 (1280x854)4 (1280x853)5 (1280x853)

AWWWWW he’s so cute! ๐Ÿ˜€

6 (1280x1280)

7 (1280x854)8 (1280x853)

โ†“This poor guy’s shell looks a bit shattered.

9 (1280x854)

The next two photos are a little different. For the first one I shined (or is it shone?) a flashlight close to the drops, and for the second one I used flash. *GASP*, she used flash?! I know it does look a bit flash-y, but I thought it was worth it to capture the neat glittery effect.

Moss pinkย are such adorable, bright flowers!

DSC_2016 (1280x853)DSC_2017 (1280x853)

Yep, it’s a fly. ๐Ÿ™‚

DSC_2018 (1280x853)DSC_2019 (1280x853)DSC_2020 (1280x853)DSC_2022 (1280x853)DSC_2023 (1280x853)DSC_2028 (1280x853)

Lily of the Valley flowers are such charming little things, butย goodness gracious, their perfume is so strong it nearly knocks you over! (Ha ha, I guess it can be that way with humans too. XD )

DSC_2029 (1280x853)DSC_2047 (1280x853)DSC_2053 (1280x853)

I really like the next picture for some reason. It’s so crisp in the foreground and beautifully blurred in the background.

DSC_2054 (1280x853)DSC_2055 (1280x853)DSC_2059 (1280x853)

Ahh, so pretty!

DSC_2061 (1280x853)DSC_2065 (1280x853)DSC_2068 (1280x853)DSC_2070 (1280x853)DSC_2073 (1280x853)DSC_2079 (1280x853)DSC_2083 (1280x853)

I love this next picture! The blur makes it look so much more professional! ๐Ÿ˜€

DSC_2090 (1280x853)

Taking pictures of clouds and landscapes isn’t really what this lens is made for (you can’t zoom out far enough), but I did get a decent picture of part of a cloud.

PHEW! Are you still here? If you are, congratulations on making it through all those pictures. XD I hope you liked them!

Do you think snails are cute? Do you love raindrops on things as much as I do?

Have a lovely day, dear readers!

          1. I bet it is! ๐Ÿ˜€
Is the autofocus on that lens any faster or more accurate than the lens you had before? I’m curious. ๐Ÿ˜›

            1. Well, so far I haven’t been too impressed with the focus, actually. It seems a bit slow. But I haven’t used it very much, so it could be that I haven’t figured it out well enough yet. ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. Wow, you take gorgeous pictures!!! We just got a new camera and I love it! God has really blessed us with not only functioning organisms in nature but also beauty. ๐ŸŒป
    God bless!

    1. Aww, thank you SO much! Nope, I didn’t name him because those pictures were of lots of different snails – they were everywhere after the rain we had! I could see about 10 from one spot. O.o ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. OOH, the zoom lens! I want one of those! My camera has like, no zoom, and I want to take pictures of the moon and all the faraway things. ๐Ÿ˜‰
But I did get a nice tripod at a garage sale today! *is excited* It was only $5!
I like your snail pictures. And yes, raindrops are fun to take pictures of. ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. Oh wait, by “zoom lens” does it mean it can zoom up close to things, or the lens can just zoom in and out…? I think my lens is called a zoom lens, but it still doesn’t zoom far. I’m not sure how smart I am with lenses. ;P

      1. OOPS. Like I said in my reply to your last comment, maybe this isn’t technically called a zoom lens. I’m not sure. But I changed it just in case. ๐Ÿ˜‰ This lens actually can’t zoom in and out, but it’s good for close-up photography. ๐Ÿ™‚

    2. Yesss, they’re so fun! But actually this zoom lens is more of a macro lens than a zoom lens – it can’t actually zoom in. OH WAIT. Maybe it isn’t even called a zoom lens? Perhaps I should change that. O.o
      Anyway, wow, that’s great!
Thanks you! They really are. ๐Ÿ™‚

      1. Oh, so a macro lens! ๐Ÿ™‚ Yea, all those technical terms can be kinda confusing. I don’t really know what the ones are really called that you’d use to photograph the moon and all. ;P But a macro lens would be really fun to have too!

  4. Shame on you for using flash!!!!! ๐Ÿ˜‰ Haha, no seriously, those are amazing photos! I have a macro zoom lens and it is amazing for ring shots…. just saying. ๐Ÿ™‚
I love playing with the “dew on flowers”. There’s just so many possibilities!!

  5. Those raindrops had me gaping! They are soooo amazing! And the little snail is sweet. 50 mm is my favourite lens in photography, and I enjoy experimenting with it. ๐Ÿ™‚

  6. Yep, I totally got excited when I saw the title. XD I’ve been wanting that exact lens every since I got my Canon. Hopefully I’ll be able to get it before long.

Great job on the pictures, they looked really professional! I’ll confess that I gasped when I saw the last dew drop photo. ๐Ÿ˜

  7. Gorgeous pictures. Love the lily of the valley. It reminded me of my great grand mother who passed away 60 years ago. I guess you now know I am getting on a bit myself. X

  8. Ahhh soooo absolutely positively beautifully wonderfully brilliantly gorgeous!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  9. The 50mm lens 1.8 is my very favorite lens! I use canon, so I have the canon version of the lens you used ๐Ÿ™‚ . I saw immediate improvement when I got mine. Your pictures are great, and I love your style and perspective!…Funny, you pretty much summarized my thoughts on that lens. ๐Ÿ˜€

  10. Oh, that’s so cool that you got a new lens for your camera! I really like your pictures. One of my favorites is the one of the lush, green leaves near the top of the post. ๐Ÿ™‚

P.S. Did you ever receive my email that I sent a while ago? I don’t want to bother you, but I was just just wondering. ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. Yeah! ๐Ÿ˜€ Thanks so much! Oh yes, they’re dogwood leaves that were shining in the sun. ๐Ÿ™‚
      P. S. Oh, it’s not a bother at all! Thanks for asking! Unfortunately I don’t think I did, but let me check… Nope, I don’t see any… did you mean the one with the YouTube video “Earth Quakes and Spaceships”? That’s the last one I got and I think I replied to it. I’m so sorry! Maybe you should try sending it again?

      1. You’re welcome!
Hmm…I just checked my sent items in my email, and the last email I sent was the one with that YouTube video in it….So I guess I didn’t get your email. :/ Could you try sending it again?

        1. Oh, whoops! I guess it was my fault then. O.o I’m pretty sure I sent it, but it probably just didn’t go through, so sure, I’ll send it again! ๐Ÿ˜€ Thanks again for reminding me!

  11. Beautiful pictures, Allison! And that snail was a cutie! ๐Ÿ˜‰ Raindrops are so cool too, they show up so great in nature! I thought the one where you experimented (the bright one) was pretty! ๐Ÿ˜€

  12. I LOOOOVE taking pictures of raindrops/dew!!!!!! It’s tons of fun to focus in on! I don’t very often, but I love to when I can! And of course the snail was cute! it was adorable!!!!! ๐Ÿ˜€ ๐Ÿ˜€
