Hello, dears!
SPRING IS FINALLY HERE! The world is looking green and pink and yellow and lovely around here, and I’m so happy about it. The redbud in front of our house is in full bloom, so of course I took a heap of photos. 😉 I hope you enjoy this explosion of pink, along with a few pictures of me playing around with the lacy shadows and trying not to squint too much in the bright sun. 😛
There’s not a whole lot to say by way of captions, so I decided to let the photos speak for themselves, and weave in a springy poem I wrote instead. (I got this idea partly from Clara’s lovely post here!)
I hope you guys enjoy reading this as much as I thoroughly enjoyed making it. 🙂
i have smelled earth soaked in rain before,
but this is different.
this fragrance is so much sweeter
with the knowledge that it’s needed now.
this fragrance is so much deeper
from being swallowed by reaching roots,
so much stronger from being swept into
a pulsing, green crescendo
and exhaled as new life:
sweet baby’s breath,
the first awakening sigh of sleeping trees and seeds.
the delicious scent is multiplied the way
a leaf of mint exhales twice the spice
when crushed between your fingertips.
just breathing in is enough to thrill your heart into bloom
with a prick of pleasure so sharp it feels like pain.
the scent lingers on your tongue like the smoothest chocolate:
well savored, and too quickly gone.
the air smells of warm sun and cool breezes;
lukewarm puddles dampening gravel lanes and woodland paths;
a flash of blue on blue, trailing song like ripples in its wake;
pastel paint for the walls of the world’s nursery;
no shoes and garden gloves;
nimble hands and calloused, muddy feet;
the tuneless, distracted hum of bees about their work;
boundless mercy as bowed heads are lifted from darkness into light.
i stand, drenched in the beauty
of the blushing blooms around me,
longing for a day when it will always be this perfect;
longing for the day when i will run through a world made new,
through a spring that never withers,
watered by an everlasting fountain, and
awash in a light that never falters.
i will run, barefoot over emerald fields and paths of brightest gold.
i will run and run and never turn back again.

So gorgeous! I really enjoyed reading this post. The photos are so pretty and spring-like, and my favorite is the one with the spider web.
We are having beautiful spring weather, but our red bud trees are unfortunately not in bloom at all yet. I guess I have to wait. 🙂

I’m so glad you enjoyed the post, Sassafras! I love that photo too – it might be my favorite. 🙂
Yay for the spring weather, but it’s too bad your trees haven’t bloomed yet. Hopefully soon!
P. S. I sent a reply to your email! Or at least I think I did… my internet is spotty and keeps not sending emails. Did you get it?

Yeah, our trees will bloom soon, I’m sure. We have a couple of flowering pear trees, and their white flowers are so pretty, so I’m looking forward to taking pictures of them.
I did get your email! I actually got two of the same, and unfortunately they both went in junk. But I always check my junk, so it’s not a big deal. 🙂
