A Sparkling Snowy Photoshoot

After multiple nearly snowless winters, we finally got a good snowstorm the other day! It was quickly followed by rain, so the snow didn’t stay pretty for long, but the ice that followed was beautiful in its own way too. I had a lot of fun tramping around in my snow boots to get some sparkly pictures for you guys.

Enjoy a collection of scenes from this fleeting winter beauty!

My cherry tomato plant is long gone, but the ice coating dead stems left behind gave them new life.

Our neighbor’s tiny house and huge catalpa tree looked picturesque all lined with snow.

I left my Christmas holly wreath up, which fit perfectly into the winter landscape.

Miniature icicles hung from every branch.

The old birdhouse wore a tall cone hat of snow.

The dogwood bush took my breath away with its glittering beauty. It was all so perfectly coated in ice.

I love how snow pictures like these look like they’re black and white photos even though they’re technically in color.

This tree’s branches are something else. Look how craggy yet intricate they are.

DSC_5890

The thin branches of the privet bush looked quite elegant against the neighboring blue apartments.

I spent so long trying to capture a drop falling in midair, but it wasn’t melting fast enough for me to have many chances. So I eventually gave up, heh.

I know trees covered in ice are dangerous, but they’re so beautiful too…

This forsythia bush still had some golden color to its twigs shining through the cold glass.

A couple of my favorite shots coming up: the curlicues of these grapevines contrasted strikingly with the dark holly background.

My garden is nicely tucked under its winter blanket. I’m already dreaming of spring planting…

Once again the holly berries were stunning by our back door entryway.

Now switching to the second half of the photoshoot which I did the next day once the sun was out. So sparkly!

DSC_5943

The sun shining on the icy trees was breathtaking but tricky to capture.

The white cap was a little shorter by now…

DSC_5950

Here you get a little glimpse of the shimmering trees above our house roof. So much prettier in person!

DSC_5955

I had to darken the sky to get the glory of these trees to show up so this photo looks a bit strange. But cool!

DSC_5961

I love how you can clearly see the crisp texture of the snow in this one.

DSC_5963

Icy garlic grass.

DSC_5970

More sunlit trees, ahh.

And we’ll end with the pattern of frost crystals on our shed’s window.

I know that was a lot of pictures, but I couldn’t narrow them down any more! Hopefully you enjoyed scrolling through them as much as I enjoyed taking them. I can’t resist snow photography because its beauty is so fleeting otherwise, at least where I live. Feel free to use any of these for your phone or computer’s wallpaper!

Did you get any snow yet this year?

Thanks so much for reading, my friends, and have a lovely day!

  1. Soo pretty! You have a great eye for photography! I always love getting to see your posts! 🙂 I love the pictures with the holly, but they were all very pretty. I see why it is hard to narrow so many down!! 🙃

  2. Truly wonderful pictures Allison! We don’t have snow but up in the mountains, the snow pack is really growing which is great for this summer and water supplies. I live on the western side of Washington where we get a lot of rain and on the eastern side, it is colder and desert like. Our state has a lot to love!

Happy New Year to you and your sweet family!

  3. Oh, how beautiful!!!!! Where I live in Texas, we got freezing rain and only a few baby flurries the following day. Thankfully one of my siblings’ managers offered us to stay at her mom’s RV for a few days. We had never told their co-workers about our homeless situation, though I suspected long ago that some would probably know. It was very cold as there was no gas and only a small electric heater, but it was still cozy and we were sheltered. We’re so thankful to God and to that sweet young lady and her mom. 🙂

God is so amazing! Such details on the ice and frost- I really don’t know how anyone can say there isn’t a Creator. You captured His artwork so well, Allison!

Love all the photos; seriously can’t choose a favorite! Just when I was going to, I found another, ha!

This post helped to cheer me up. My younger brother (19) is, Lord willing, leaving for India on Thursday. His trip is for 11 days, but his visa is for 30. So he might extend his stay…. He’s never traveled out of the States before and is going alone.

Thank you so much for sharing, dear friend! May the Lord bless and keep you!

    1. It surely was! Aww, what a sweet blessing from that manager. It still sounds hard but a blessing for sure. My sister Megan and her husband are living in an RV while they build their house and it’s not the most comfy place in winter.

I think of that too. And how He didn’t *have* to make the world so beautiful, yet He chose to bless us that way. So glad you enjoyed the pictures!

I hope and pray your brother stays safe and is able to return before too long. ❤️ Blessings to you and your family!

  4. That’s great about Megan and Harrison building a house! Though I’m sure at times, the waiting period can feel very long. I pray that they’re able to stay warm in their RV in the meantime.

And thank you for praying for my brother, Isaiah’s, safety!

    Blessings to you too, friend!

    1. Yes I’m really excited for them! Thankfully they are able to periodically stay in Harrison’s siblings/parents houses when they’re out of town. (Or they could all the time but they usually live in the RV.)

Good to know your brother’s name. Keep me updated!
