Woodland Nature Baby Shower

I’m so excited for this post! I got to put on a shower for Megan and baby Edison and it turned out super cute and fun. Megan isn’t into super cutesy, stereotypical boy stuff, but she loves nature and they live in the woods. So I went for a classy, woodland/nature-themed shower. I had tons of fun putting together a woodland menu and filling the room with dozens of Mom’s houseplants.

Enjoy some cute party inspo!

One of my favorite party hosting tricks is to turn the TV from an unaesthetic distraction into a welcome sign. I designed this using the illustrations I painted for her shower invitations.

We decided to capitalize on the cloudy, chilly day by starting a fire in the fireplace. It didn’t ever become blazing, but it was still a cozy addition. (Also apologies for the bad lighting in these photos due to the cloudy weather!)

The focal point of the room was this “jungle throne” for Megan. Since we didn’t have much in the way of greenery or florals to decorate with this early in spring, I used my mom’s many houseplants to create a woodland/nature/jungle feel.

We did find a couple of daffodils to brighten up the space. Another good party hosting tip is to borrow decor from your house or your friends’ houses that already fits the theme so you don’t have to buy everything new. I already had these nature-print pillows that worked perfectly!

I wanted the plants to feel overgrown and lush, so Mom put a couple vining plants on top of the tall desk. Probably the biggest challenge of decorating was finding enough seats for 15-20 people in one room. We made it work by setting up a second row of chairs behind the couch.

We made a space for the gifts near Megan’s chair so they’d be accessible but wouldn’t clutter up the center of the room. I also brought a couple of gifts or prizes for the games, one of which was a pothos plant I propagated from a plant I own. I made a macrame hanger to elevate the gift. The other prize was special chocolate, because you can’t go wrong there!

My mom has graciously hosted many parties at her home by now, and whenever I’m the one putting them together, I like to focus all my energy on making this one big room pretty. It’s much easier than trying to put decorations all over the house, and it makes a bigger impact I think.

On the other side of Megan’s chair, we set up a folding table featuring a diaper raffle and a diaper decorating station. For the latter, I put some newborn diapers in a pretty box and provided Sharpies so guests could write encouraging or funny notes or draw little doodles. It was fun to look at everyone’s creations, and hopefully they will brighten late-night diaper changes for Megan and Harrison. 🙂

My top suggestion for hosting a baby shower is to include a diaper raffle! I didn’t have to buy diapers for MONTHS because I got so many from my baby showers. I included a note in the invitation saying to bring diapers for a chance to win a prize. Then people wrote their names on slips of paper if they brought diapers, and I chose a winner at the end of the shower. I had guests put their diapers under the table so the tablecloth would hide them. You know, just to keep things prettier. 🙂

I brought a couple little mushrooms and decor items from my house to make little vignettes around the room. Isn’t this so cute?

Now we’re getting into the menu! A little disclaimer: pretty much all of these ideas came from Pinterest. For drinks, I had water and tea options. The tea was herbal berry tea plus strawberry tops and lemons for a little added flavor and beauty. I made cute “spring water” and “pond water” labels for them.

I found this fun idea of using a foam cone and toothpicks to create a broccoli “tree.”

The “entree” was these adorable snail wraps! I must say, these took forever for to make, haha. But they turned out really cute and tasty. The first kind had a Greek yogurt/ranch seasoning/cheddar cheese spread with ham, cheddar, lettuce, and dill pickles. The second had a hummus spread with turkey, gouda, avocado, and sweet pickles. I made sourdough tortillas earlier and froze them to simplify prep later. I tried to make the menu either sourdough or gluten free for those with gluten intolerances.

Probably the cutest part of the menu were these little mushroom cupcakes. I mean, how adorable are these?! I topped a sourdough chocolate cupcake with chocolate buttercream, green mug cake “moss,” and mushrooms made out of homemade maple marshmallows and strawberries.

I didn’t get a picture of the hedgie cheese ball my friend made, so this is my aunt’s picture (@beyondadreamphoto). Look how cuuute!

Carmen put together these little grape caterpillars for me using bamboo skewers and whole cloves for the eyes and antennae.

My SIL made these super cute tomato and cheese stick toadstools. I love them!

She also made deviled eggs because I wanted to have a more filling option. Also isn’t this vase cool?

Time for the shower to start! People chatted for a while until everyone arrived, then we had lunch, and we played a game + did gifts.

(Another picture from my aunt.) I decided on a trivia-style game since this is the type we did at Megan’s bridal shower exactly a year earlier. Haha! It was hard to nail down actual answers for these, but it was a fun conversation starter and got both grandmas sharing memories about Megan and Harrison as babies.

The guest of honor in her jungle seat. 😀

It’s so strange but fun to see my sister with a baby bump. 🙂

Gift time! I didn’t get many pictures of this, oops. The left one is a beautiful quilt my grandmother made, and the right is Edison’s ultrasound painting I made for Megan.

And now we shall end with some Sophia photos because she has to make her way into all of my blog posts now. XD It’s sooo cute seeing Megan with Sophia.

Sophia with Dad and Dad’s sister. (I suppose her grandad and… great aunt?!)

We’ll end with one of my favorites of Sophia and my Gram. SO CUTE.

I hope you enjoyed that tour of Megan’s shower! Everyone seemed to have fun and really enjoy the cute food and decorations, and I think Megan felt loved and special. So it was a success in my book!

Thanks so much for reading, my friends, and have a lovely day!

  1. Hi Allison! Would it be possible to have my email address changed? I’d like to have your emails sent to another email address. If it would be easier, I can simply unsubscribe from the list here and immediately sign up with the other one, but I wasn’t sure if you’d be able to do it on your end.

(Also, I just want to tell you that I LOVE your blog posts, and Sophia is so adorable and precious!)

    Thank you, Ann Weaver.

I love the floral/brown tones the guests were wearing; it looked well with the green plants.

    1. Aww thank you Valentine! It was a success due to all the help from my family. Yes she did look lovely! And I love the name Edison too.

I actually had a note on the invitation that said “if your closet allows, come wearing green, brown, red, or navy.” It’s fun way to have the guests be a part of the decor.

Hehe I love pretty and tasty food and enjoy making it too.

Thanks for your comment and the well-wishes!
