If you’ve been following my blog for a long time, you’ll know I used to live on a dairy/poultry/crop farm. I’ve missed the myriad photography opportunities that entails. My family still lives on a farm, though, and Sully’s family owns a raw milk operation comprising several small dairies. I got to photograph their cows the other day which brought back many fond memories. 🙂
Enjoy this sunny farm photoshoot!
We first went back to the pasture where the milk cows spend their days. Cows are so funny—once one of them is brave enough to inspect a visitor, the whole herd follows.

Haha, the coloring around this cow’s eyes makes her look extra startled.

Sophia wasn’t a huge fan of Farmer Daddy and Aunt Sheridan holding her… But I needed both arms for pictures!

The herd went back to happily grazing, protected by the bull in the third picture.

The sun was a bit too harsh for my liking, but I got some glowy lighting in this one despite the shadows.

If you’re in central/eastern Virginia, you can purchase a cowshare from Avery’s Branch Farm to enjoy delicious and healthy raw milk from these cows! Click here for their website.

They also had some cute bunnies I tried to show Sophia. She wasn’t too interested in them though.

These younger heifers were enjoying the cool shade of the woods. So beautiful and peaceful!

I love how they all lined up in a row here.

This pup accompanied us everywhere we walked.

I must say, Jersey cows are a lot cuter than the Holstein breed I grew up with…

This one looks like she visited a cow salon and got highlights in her hair, hehe.

Such a pretty forest background.

I couldn’t resist taking some chicory pictures before we left. One of my favorite wildflowers!

I love a good backlit flower shot.

I hope you enjoyed coming along with me for that visit! When I was a kid, I drank raw milk allllll the time. I still love it, so it’s wonderful to have such a trusted source even though I no longer live on a farm myself. Again, feel free to check out their website to see if they have a pickup location near you if you’re interested!
Thanks so much for reading, my friends, and have a lovely day!

Oh cow joy! I have always loved them and their sweet noses! They are very curious too. What a beautiful farm! And that sweet girl is getting so big! I once dated a fella that was quite reserved but we we traveling passed a meadow filled with cows and he rolled down his window and made gigantic mooing sounds! I will never forget that and he had such love for cows too! Love to you little family and God’s blessings.

Cows are so fun to photograph! Beautiful photos! Those little guys are so cute!!
They all have such interesting looks and personalities. We were driving down the road one day when all of a sudden in a big patch of forest in the front of a huge field, a cow caught my eye. My husband turned around and we went back, to see multiple cows in the forest trees, hidden and content with watching the world go by!

Haha I love that! They do sometimes hide out in the woods around here as well. Thanks for the lovely comment!
