Bunnies!

The fair was this week, and when we went we saw some adorable bunnies and we just had to have one.  Megan and I didn’t think our parents would agree to our getting one, but to our surprise, they let us! And get three no less!  We got them on the fifteenth.  One for me, one for Megan, and one for Carmen.  We decided not to get them from the fair, but we found some on Craigslist.  We each had to pay for them, but we had enough money, and Mom got the supplies.  We already had a rabbit cage from a former bunny, Nibbles.

The breed of rabbit that we got was “Silver Fox”.  Sounds kind of odd for a rabbit, but when they are adults, their fur gets flecked with kind of a silver color.

We all got females- Megan and Carmen both have black ones, and I have a chocolate brown one.  Carmen’s has a little silver spot on its forehead, so it’s pretty easy to tell Megan’s bunny and Carmen’s bunny apart.  Megan named her bunny Rutabaga, Carmen named hers (with a little help from Megan) Diamond, and I named mine Honeybunny, but sometimes I call her Honey.

This is Carmen’s (Diamond)

We also had a bunny leash from Nibbles,so we like to take them outside with it.  Sometimes they scratch you when you pick them up and put them down, but when you get them situated, they are very calm and settle down quite nicely. They’re really cuddly and soft and fun to hold.

We put their cage in an empty calf hutch and put some straw and soft grass down, and put in some crates to sit on.  They’re a lot of fun to play with.

Here they are all together.  2014-8-16-Allison 051

Have a good one!

Doodle Fun

If you like to draw or doodle, you’ll like this!  These circle doodles are really fun to make, and they turn out really neat.  They’re only made out of circles, so they’re easy too.

To start with, draw a circle.

2014-8-9-Allison 008

Next, draw a few more circles inside the big one.

2014-8-9-Allison 010

All you have to do now is fill in the leftover space with circles, circles and more circles.

2014-8-9-Allison 013

(Sorry for the blurry pictures here)

2014-8-9-Allison 015

You can stop here, or keep going.  You could make a stepping stone,

2014-8-9-Allison 016

Or go color crazy!

2014-8-9-Allison 017

Experiment with drawing the outline of the circles in different colors…

2014-8-9-Allison 004

Then make a bunch of bubbles!

2014-8-9-Allison 018

There are so many things to do with this.  What did you draw?

I learned how to draw this from this video.  (It’s called “Infinity Elephants”) There are lots of other great doodling videos here.

Have fun!

Of Bubbles and Beaches

We just got back from our vacation to Rhode Island!  It was a lot of fun.  I didn’t get all that many pictures though, because my camera stopped working about halfway through the trip. 😦  Anyway, I’ll just post about part of the trip, and my sister Megan will probably post about the rest. (You can find her blog here at dandelionsanddaisys.wordpress.com.)  I will post about (as you might have guessed from the title) the beach and… bubbles!  Our grandmother gave us kids each a thing of bubbles for our trip, and we had fun blowing them. (Thanks, Gram!)

First, a little bit about the part of Rhode Island we saw.  The houses were almost all tidy and pretty, and a lot of them had flowerbeds.  There were these gorgeous blue hydrangeas everywhere!  We even saw a shop called… The Blue Hydrangea!  We saw a lot of little stone walls there too- some were just stones stacked on top of each other.  There were also a lot of beaches.

While we were there, we went looking in several neat shops.  We got an ornament for our Christmas tree, and the kids each got a souvenier of Rhode Island.  And, among other things, we toured a gorgeous mansion, went on a boat ride, and had s’mores (of course)

****************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************

Now for the beach!   The waves at the beach were really big, but you can’t really tell from the pictures.  There weren’t many shells, but there were lots of different kinds of seaweed.  You can see it on the sand two pictures below.  The picture on the sand is a little weird, but its the only one I have of the sand.  I wish I got a picture of this big sandcastle and the wall that we built to protect it from the waves.  The wall was more impressive than the sandcastle!  It protected the castle for a pretty long time, but then a huge wave kind of destroyed the wall and the castle.

The water was really cold, but not as cold as the Maine water we went in another year- that was FREEZING!

I just had to put this last picture in for my Aunt Andrea. 😉  I think this was a restaurant or something.

Fireworks!

We saw the fireworks at Massanutten recently, and I took some pictures while we were watching (of course :))2014-7-5-Allison (Fireworks) 0332014-7-5-Allison (Fireworks) 0372014-7-5-Allison (Fireworks) 0412014-7-5-Allison (Fireworks) 015  I discovered that if I waved my camera around while I took a picture, I ended up with these neat light streaks.2014-7-5-Allison (Fireworks) 0312014-7-5-Allison (Fireworks) 0242014-7-5-Allison (Fireworks) 025

It worked the same way when we waved around glow sticks.

2014-7-5-Allison (Fireworks) 008This will probably be the last post for about a week because we’re going on a trip to Rhode Island -tomorrow! (YAY!)

Bye for now,

Game Time!

We were having fun the other day with a little game I made up.  You basically try to get the other person to draw exactly the picture you drew, but by only describing it in words.  There’s an example of the game below.  You can try playing it too, and compare your finished drawing to the picture farther down the page.

*************************************************************************************************

I drew a simple picture for Megan, then I described it in steps for her.

“Draw a small circle in the middle of the paper.

Then draw a half-circle below that circle.  Make sure that it’s touching the circle and the bottom of the page.

Inside the half-circle, draw 8 small circles.

In the middle of the circle that you drew at the beginning, draw a small triangle with the point facing down.

Above the triangle, draw two dots, spaced apart.

Coming out from the top of the circle, make three squiggly lines.

On top of each line, draw a small circle.

*****************************************************************************************

Now compare mine and Megan’s:

Mine:

Megan’s:

2014-6-26 010

I guess I should have told her to draw an arch instead of a half-circle, huh?  Anyway it’s fun to see how they turn out.  Sometimes they’re practically the same, and sometimes they’re totally different.  Oh, and there are a couple of rules for this game.  Of course, you can make up your own version, but I think it works best if you use these rules:

1. No questions- if somebody says,”Draw a triangle,” you can’t ask the size, its position, etc.  It’s up to the person telling you how to draw it to give you the details.

2. You’re not allowed to look at anybody else’s paper until the end of the game.

3. You can’t erase anything-make sure the person who’s giving you instructions is finished before you draw!

4.  If you’re going to draw, say, a window, you can’t just say, “Draw a window,” you have to say something like,  “Draw a square with a plus sign inside it.”

So there you have it! I hope you enjoy playing this game.  We’ve also found a website that has lots of fun printable games like Sudoku, word searches, crossword puzzles, and mazes.  You can customize most if not all of them.  For instance, in the word search, you can type your own words to use in the wordsearch, change the fonts, and other good stuff.  If you’re interested, here’s the link:  theteacherscorner.net

Have fun!

I am writing this secret note almost two years later. This is the ONLY secret note I have ever done on my blog thus far! If you find it, CONGRATULATIONS! I am heartily surprised. X D !

Hidden Pictures

We have a lot of unpainted wood in our house, and sometimes the grain of the wood makes a pattern or a picture.  I took photos of some of the best “hidden pictures” for you to see.  The first one is one we’ve known about for a while.

Can you find a happy piggy in this wood?2014-6-24-Allison 008

The next one can look like two things: an owl, or a cross-eyed pelican.  See if you can find both.

2014-6-24-Allison 010

I saved the best for last.  This one has lots of detail.  Can you find a bird that looks kind of like a female peacock in this picture?  Once you see it, it’s hard to look the picture and not see it.

2014-6-24-Allison 014

Did you find them all?  If you haven’t there are answers below.

And last but not least, the peacock: (The head’s at the top)
