Amelia Island Part 2

Hello hello! I’m back with part two of my pictures from our vacation with friends. 😀 (See part one here.) I love these photos, and I hope you do too!

Let’s start with the crabbing photos. We went out to a marsh to catch blue crabs with some crab traps, chicken pieces for bait, and some coolers. It was SO much fun and we ended up catching quite a few crabs – around 8! They didn’t amount to much once we cooked them, but the few crumbs we had tasted good. XD

We drove around everywhere in golf carts, which allowed you to take in all the beautiful scenery. ♥ Isn’t it gorgeous?

DSC_1339 (1280x853)
A tree where we parked the golf cart. I love all the Spanish moss! It looks so mysterious.

Besides crabs, we also caught some various other water creatures like fish and shrimp. (But we didn’t keep them.)

We caught two of these fish, I believe, and the second made a weird grunting/clicking sound. O.o It was so odd and funny!

DSC_1312 (1280x853)

Doesn’t this look like a tropical angelfish or something? We were all amazed to catch it.

DSC_1320 (1280x853)DSC_1323 (1280x853)

Shrimp look hilarious with their long antennae. XD

DSC_1316 (1280x853)

And of course, the crabs. Look how blue they are underneath – so pretty!

DSC_1314 (1280x853)
We put the crabs on ice to calm them down. 😉 Some of the little guys were quite feisty!

Now for more beach pictures. 🙂

Whoa, I LOVE this photo! Isn’t abstract design of the sand neat?
DSC_1380 (1280x853)
What do you know. I only took one shell photo this time.

Shore birds…

DSC_1351 (1280x853)

DSC_1352 (853x1280)
I really like this one!
DSC_1353 (1280x853)
Heh heh, he looks a bit ruffled at being on camera.
DSC_1357 (1280x853)
I couldn’t decide whether to delete this picture or not… it’s kind of neat, but sort of not. 😛

DSC_1420 (1280x853)DSC_1421 (1280x853)

DSC_1389 (1280x853)

I absolutely LOVE these pictures of my little sister Carmen! (I seem to be saying “I love this picture” to almost every picture, huh? XD)

DSC_1382 (853x1280)DSC_1383 (853x1280)

DSC_1384 (853x1280)
AHHH I LOVE IT!

The sunset over the beach was gorgeous! Unfortunately I didn’t get any pictures of it at the peak, but I did get these.

DSC_1425 (1280x853)

Lastly, I took a bunch of pictures on the way home, especially of the enormously, voluminously puffy clouds (wow that was fun to say).

Such a pretty drive!

The birds look like specks of pepper.

And that’s about it! I hope you enjoyed the huge conglomeration of photos, dears. 🙂 Do you have a favorite(s) or is it too overwhelming to pick?

Also, HAPPY (late) BIRTHDAY to my sister Megan! If you haven’t already done so, hop on over to her blog and send her a belated birthday note. 🙂 (By the way, she also posted the pictures that I took of her on the sister’s photoshoot here.)

Amelia Island Part 1

We just got back from a lovely vacation with our friends at Amelia Island, Florida. Of course I took hundreds of pictures, and thusly I’m going to divide this into two posts, heh heh. Get ready for a huge photo dump!

Pictures from the drive there…

DSC_1174 (1280x853)DSC_1175 (1280x853)DSC_1181 (1280x853)

My siblings counted different kinds of trailers on the way there and back, keeping tally with a dry-erase marker on the window. They got a lot more than this till the trip was over. 🙂 (And yes, they did manage to get one truck honk in the end. XD)

DSC_1185 (1280x853)

Now we’re at the island! The trees at the resort are GORGEOUS, all old and gnarly, and covered in ferns and dripping with Spanish moss. It makes the whole place look really neat and mysterious.

DSC_1189 (1280x853)DSC_1192 (1280x853)

And now for tons of beach pictures! You will be proud of me, guys: I managed not to ruin my camera this time like I have at pretty much every other beach vacation. XD

Going down the boardwalk…

DSC_1200 (1280x853)

Look what we found!

tortoise

This beach is absolutely gorgeous. ♥

DSC_1208 (1280x853)

I love all the shells along the beach!

DSC_1212 (1280x853)DSC_1214 (1280x853)DSC_1215 (1280x853)DSC_1218 (1280x853)

Isn’t this neat? You can’t see it too well in the picture, but I found a hollowed out shell that fit me perfectly as a ring, like it was made for me! Maybe it was. 🙂 Wow, my fingers look weirdly long in this picture. O.o Probably because they are.

DSC_1251 (1280x853)

DSC_1252 (1280x853)DSC_1253 (1280x853)

Can you spot the pretty little purple cochina shell?

DSC_1250 (1280x853)

And the waves are wonderful too… (Can you tell I just really like the beach? XD)

DSC_1264 (1280x853)

It’s amazing how powerful water can be.

DSC_1235 (1280x853)DSC_1236 (1280x853)DSC_1243 (1280x853)DSC_1244 (1280x853)

DSC_1219 (1280x853)DSC_1226 (1280x853)DSC_1234 (1280x853)

Isn’t this picture neat? I like how the wave is rolling. 🙂

DSC_1277 (1280x853)DSC_1279 (1280x853)DSC_1280 (1280x853)DSC_1285 (1280x853)DSC_1286 (1280x853)DSC_1287 (1280x853)DSC_1289 (853x1280)DSC_1290 (853x1280)DSC_1291 (853x1280)

And we’ll end with this cute little tree frog we found stuck to a window of the beach house. He’s all tucked into a little frog package. 😛

tree frog

Whew! Done with the first part! I hope you enjoyed. But I have to say, I think the rest of the pictures are even better. 😉 I can’t wait to show you!

What is your favorite part of the beach? The waves? The sand? The shells?

Thanks for visiting and see you later, dear readers! 😀

Return of the Random Photos

My extra photos are piling up again, so I guess that means it’s time for another random photography post! 🙂 YAY! I hope you enjoy!

Aren’t these clouds lovely? ♥

DSC_0415 (1280x853)

We found this rather odd-looking bird and figured out it was a chimney swift. I think he’s quite weird. XD

DSC_0473 (1280x853)

I got these next few photos when we all went for a ride in Dad’s pickup to go check some fields and see how the soybeans were growing. (Sadly, they weren’t coming along very well, but Dad replanted them – twice – and now they’re doing fine, I think. 🙂 )

DSC_0479 (1280x853)

I love the view of our farm from this hill. ♥ Sooooooo pretty!

DSC_0481 (1280x853)

Aren’t mountains beautiful?

This is a pretty edit I did of a huge, puffy pink cloud.

edit 1

One day we studied ladybugs in Nature Study and went out to search for them in an alfalfa field. It was kind of hard to get pictures, but I got a few neat ones. My friend got an amazing one of a ladybug eating an aphid! But sadly, I did not. 😦 😉

DSC_0504 (1280x853)

DSC_0508 (1280x853)

I really like ladybugs, but I have to admit – they look a little creepy when you put dozens of them in a jar. XD

DSC_0510 (1280x853)

These are the kind of bouquets I made to decorate tables for a church potluck in May. It was supposed to be a “Farmer’s Market” theme, so I used a bunch of different stuff from our farm and garden. I think they turned out pretty well, and I love how this picture turned out too!

DSC_0540 (853x1280)

Hee hee, well this is random. XD We made the BEST playdough ever (seriously – it is!), just for fun one day when my friend came over. It hardly feels like playdough at all, it’s so soft and silky and stretchy. (Wow, alliteration skills. XD ) You can see the recipe here.

DSC_0544

Another VERY random photo. 😛 I was going to do a mystery picture of a clementine, but it didn’t turn out. I decided to keep the photo, though, because for some reason I like it.

DSC_0553

Lilies are gorgeous, and so photogenic, aren’t they?!

Okay guys, you are going to LOVE this! We’ve been feeding our neighbors’ kittens while they’re on vacation, and they are the sweetest, prettiest little things!

DSCN1423 (1280x960)DSCN1425 (1280x960)

Look at those eyes! ♥♥

XD

DSCN1434 (1280x960)

Our neighbor has a wonderful in-ground pool that she so generously lets us use pretty much whenever we want! I thought the clouds looked really neat that day, so logically, I took pictures. XD

DSCN1472 (1280x960)

DSCN1478 (960x1280)

Ahh, I LOVE this picture! The water looks so bright and clear and… almost plastic-y. XD

Mimosa tree photography…

DSCN1483 (1280x960)DSCN1484 (1280x960)DSCN1486 (1280x960)

It looks like someone climbed the tree and threw a rope into the clouds so they could climb up. 😀

DSCN1494 (960x1280)

Hee hee, Megan jumping:

DSCN1495 (1280x960)

We shall end with one hilarious picture. My cousin said this looked like a whale farting. XD XD XD

DSCN1499 (1280x960)

Well, I hope you enjoyed scrolling through those pictures, my dears! Do you have a favorite?

Thanks for reading!

P. S. Guess what?! My sister Megan wrote the next part of WordCrafters, and it’s GREAT! You can read it on the WordCrafters 3 page here.

Assateague Island {Photo Dump}

On Monday we left for a vacation at Assateague Island, and so far it’s been a ton of fun! If you know me, you’re probably guessing that I took, like, hundreds of pictures. And you’d be right. XD This is going to be one serious photo dump, guys.

I was trying to figure out how to organize the pictures, but I ended up pretty much just keeping them in the order they uploaded, and hoping that it’s not too jumbled. XD

I’ll start with some flowers. We’re staying in a cozy little Air B&B house with a moss lawn and gorgeous periwinkle hydrangeas in the front yard. I love how these photos turned out!

DSC_0720 (1280x853)DSC_0721 (1280x853)DSC_0723 (1280x853)

Some of our funniest adventures happened while driving. One time my littlest sister Carmen came up with… um, rather creative “Would You Rather” questions like, “Would you rather have all your hair pulled out or all your teeth?” and “Would you rather pour honey or glue over your head?” and lots more that were too gross to tell. We nearly died laughing but it was so GROSS. XD XD XD

DSC_0724 (1280x853)

I don’t pictures marshes as being exactly beautiful, but the marsh at the entrance to Assateague was really pretty.

DSC_0824 (1280x853)

If you’ve ever read Misty of Chincoteague, you probably already know that there are wild ponies roaming all over Assateague and Chincoteague Islands. It’s so funny because they walk right up to you and wander around the beaches and parking lots where people are, but they can still bite and kick like wild animals, so you’re not supposed to pet them.

DSC_0727 2 (1280x782)

I love this next picture! I spent a long time trying to get this to turn out. XD

DSC_0887 (1280x853)

When I was taking these footprint pictures I remembered a little poem/story thingy that I love. You can read it here.

DSC_0883 (853x1280)

My sister Megan took these pictures of me with my camera. The next one looks like my elbow is lighting up. XD

DSC_0920 2 (1280x853)

As you can see, the waves make me happy. 😛 🙂

DSC_0915 2 (1280x873)

Heh heh, I forgot to put sunscreen on my back that day and now it’s bright pink. YOUCH.

DSC_0910 (1280x853)

My parents taking a walk on the beach…

DSC_0907 (1280x853)

We barely found any shells the first day, but the second and third days we found a bunch!

DSC_0906 (1280x853)

I took sooooo many pictures of waves, but I just couldn’t help it – they’re so beautiful! We hardly ever take beach vacations so I have to take what I can get. XD

DSC_0902 (1280x853)DSC_0900 (1280x853)

DSC_0898 (1280x853)DSC_0897 (1280x853)

My brothers built a sandcastle every time we went to the beach, and the last one was QUITE impressive. But we’ll get to that in a moment… This is just the beginning of a moat or something.

DSC_0893 (1280x853)

Aww, isn’t that picture sweet? My little sister, Carmen, loved the waves too. 🙂

DSC_0880 2 (1280x888)

I don’t know what Megan is looking for… shells, maybe?

DSC_0877 (1280x853)DSC_0874 (1280x853)

I got some pretty funny pictures of my brothers’ expressions while they were jumping waves. XD

DSC_0870 2 (1280x883)

This is one of my favorite pictures out of all of the beach photos! Just look at their smiles! 😀 Logan is the one with the black shirt and Jeff has the white shirt.

DSC_0869 3 (1280x853).jpg

Hee hee, look at Megan’s hair!

DSC_0865 (853x1280)

I got some neat silhouette pictures of my parents on the beach.

DSC_0862 2 (1280x855)

I like the seagull silhouettes in this one.

DSC_0860 2 (1280x853)DSC_0857 (1280x853)

Isn’t this so CUTE?!

DSC_0856 3 (860x1280)

HA HA!

DSC_0854 (1280x853)

Hoof prints…

DSC_0846 (1280x853)

And footprints.

DSC_0844 (1280x853)

I got some really neat pictures of two wild ponies meandering over the beach.

Oh my goodness, isn’t this hilarious? The horses were investigating these peoples’ bags. XD

Going down the boardwalk…

DSC_0827 (1280x853)

More flower pictures. ♥

DSC_0818 (1280x853)

Ahhh, I LOVE the next one!

DSC_0817 (1280x853)DSC_0816 (1280x853)

Here’s the first sandcastle my brothers made. Neat, but nothing compared to their later ones. 🙂

DSC_0812 (1280x853)DSC_0810 (1280x853)DSC_0808 (1280x853)

This is the second sandcastle. (I took this picture quick with Megan’s camera, so of course it won’t be as good of quality as my wonderful camera would be. Heh heh. 😛 )

DSCN1134.JPG

And this is their last one! It looks pretty similar to the second one, but it’s more impressive in real life. (Megan took these pictures.)

Megan's photos (1)Megan's photos (2)

And back to the ocean… It looks like Carmen is Moana. XD

DSC_0802 (1280x853)DSC_0799 (1280x853)

More wave action pictures!

Seagulls!

I got some more neat (but blurry) action photos of the wild ponies galloping.

DSC_0753 2 (1280x853)DSC_0750 2 (1280x853)DSC_0749 2 (1280x863)DSC_0747 (1280x853)

And lastly we shall end with a sunset. These are the last beach pictures I got before my camera stopped working. *Sniff* I’m not exactly sure what’s wrong with it. It might be that the battery isn’t good anymore, or maybe it’s something else. It still takes pictures but the screen doesn’t work. We might be able to fix it when we get home, but for now… 😦 Any advice?

DSC_0929 (1280x853)

DSC_0924 (1280x853)

PHEW! You made it through almost 100 pictures! I hope you enjoyed them as much as I did. 😀 Have you been to Assateague or Chincoteague? Do I even dare ask what your favorite picture was? Nah, there were too many. XD

Thank you so much for reading, my friends!

P. S. AHHH YAY! Hayley is doing another ATC trade! For all the details, check out her post here. You should totally go see – the past two ATC trades were SO much fun!

Mountain Hike {Photo Dump}

Yesterday we went on a beautiful hike in the mountains with our friends. It was tiring, but so fun! Plus there was a stream and a waterfall, so that automatically makes it a good trail. 🙂 I took quite a few absolutely TONS of pictures, so do some finger exercises, get comfortable, and start scrolling. 😛

Such a beautiful view, don’t you agree?

DSC_0237 (1280x853)DSC_0240 (1280x853)

Ahh, so sunny. ♥

DSC_0242 (1280x853).jpg

Beautiful ferns…

DSC_0243 (1280x853)DSC_0247 (1280x853)

We’ve seen these weird corncob-like fungi before, but I don’t know what they’re called. We probably looked it up but then I forgot. XD

DSC_0249 (1280x853).jpg

There were a bunch of mini cascades and waterfalls like this before we got to the big one.

Ahhh isn’t this waterfall GORGEOUS?!

DSC_0339 (1280x853)

DSC_0317 (1280x853)

I love the next picture, even though it sort of looks like Megan’s holding up the fallen log with her head. XD

DSC_0345 (1280x853)DSC_0340 (1280x853)

Ha ha, my brother Jeff was climbing all over the place.

DSC_0333 (1280x853)DSC_0334 (1280x853)

The fallen log kind of got in the way of the pictures, although it looked neat, too.

DSC_0330 (1280x853)DSC_0332 (853x1280)DSC_0326 (1280x853) (800x533)DSC_0328 (1280x853)DSC_0329 (1280x853)DSC_0322 (1280x853)DSC_0319 (853x1280)DSC_0320 (1280x853)DSC_0321 (853x1280)

If you wade to the other end of the waterfall you find another, much steeper and narrower one. It’s basically just a shoot of white water.

DSC_0377 (1280x853)

*Gasp* Okay Allison, maybe you went a bit too far this time. O.o I applaud you if you persevered to the end and actually looked at most of the pictures. XD I hope it wasn’t too strenuous of a journey. But wasn’t the waterfall gorgeous? And the mountains? Ahhh, it makes my heart happy. ♥

Have a lovely day, lovely people!

***Allison***

Of Snow, Ice, Snowmen, Puddles… Etc.

Guys, buckle up for a TON of pictures! This may be one of my longest posts to date. XD

It snowed last Monday/Tuesday, and I just went photo-wild. XD I got a few neat pictures of the snow, but most of the pictures were actually of icicles or ice. So anyway, have a seat and take a peek, won’t you?

Phew, I don’t know where to start! Let’s see. I guess I’ll start with some pretty, icy pictures.

Ice:

It looks like rain drops only… ice drops!

Love this one!

The poor pussy willow buds got rather frozen. 😦

Next up…

Snow:

It didn’t snow very much, but it still looked pretty!

Maggie!
tag (24) (1280x853)
Heh heh, I drew this horribly deformed smiley face in the snow with water.

My three youngest siblings made this hilarious but cute snowman. XD After I took these pictures, they made him a “Snow Cool” sign.

tag (28) (1280x853)
They used icicles for the mohawk, a carrot for the nose (obviously), sunglasses for the… uh, sunglasses ( XD ) and a smear of dirt for the mouth.

After most of that snow had melted, what do you know? It snowed AGAIN! (And then melted super quickly but oh well.) The most amazing thing about this snow was the snowflakes. I mean, they weren’t even snowflakes, they were more like snowballs! They were the biggest flakes I have ever seen – a whole bunch of snowflakes bunched into a clump, some of which were quarter-sized or bigger. I tried frantically to get a good picture that showed how big they were, but I didn’t really get any. 😦 I did get some pretty pictures, though!

tag (3)
We have a nice view of this silo from our deck. 😀
tag (4)
There you can kind of see how hard it was snowing!
tag (6)
Fluffy. 🙂

Ooh, yay! Now I get to show you the…

Icicles

After we finished gathering eggs, I ran back to the house to get my camera. I noticed the lovely icicles hanging from the chicken house roofs, and I just HAD to get some pictures. 😉 I’m so glad I did! It took quite a bit of patience and a high shutter speed setting to capture the drops falling, but I had SO much fun experimenting!

Woohoo, two at once!

tag (14) (1280x853)

These icicles are on our house, and I took this picture at sunset.

And that leads us to…

Water Drops

After I had taken quite a few icicle photos, I noticed that the drops sliding off of them were splashing into a puddle. I decided it would be fun to take pictures of that too! Instead of kneeling down in the wet snow, though, I got a (rather dirty) measuring pitcher from the chicken house, brought out something to sit on, and started taking pictures. This also took quite a bit of patience, like the icicles. I got a whole bunch of blurry or boring pictures for every good one. But again, it was so exciting when I DID get a good one! Hee hee!

(Note: I edited these pictures a good bit – they didn’t look like this straight from the camera. 😉 )

drop 1drop 4drop 5drop 6

And now for my very favorite one. ♥ Ohhh my goodness I love it so much!

drop 2

And last but not least, we have…

Everything Else

I took several not-so-snowy pictures that I wanted to include too.

Quite a few robins were hopping around this puddle, waiting for spring to come, I guess. 🙂

robin 1
I love how you can see his reflection.
robin 2
This was a fun one! I made everything black and white except for the robin’s pop of color.

robin 3

I was pretty tickled to get this next picture. I saw two robins fighting in the puddle all of a sudden and quick pressed the button – and it actually worked! I love it when that happens. 🙂

robins

tag (33) (1280x853)
This is neat, don’t you think?
tag (29) (1280x853)
I rather like this one too.

I shall end with this promise of spring. This poor little beauty was stuck face down in the snow when I rescued her, but she’s still so bright and cheery for all that! Daffodils are such incredibly hardy, resilient flowers that can spring back after even such cold trials as this snow. Sometimes it’s hard to be a daffodil, isn’t it? It is for me…

tag (36) (1280x853)

Aaaaannnd I’m finished! Maybe it wasn’t so wise to put all those pictures in one post, but I just wanted to try and see how it worked. XD What do you think? Was that way too much or did you heartily enjoy seeing all those photos at once? Or are you indifferent? XD

If you actually got through the whole thing, which category or picture was your favorite?

Thanks for reading (and persevering)!

Random Farm Photography

Hola, mis amigos! 😀

I hope you are having a lovely weekend. Tonight is family movie night for us, yippee! And we didn’t have to gather eggs today… yippee again! XD Anyway, today I wanted to show you a collection of photos from around our farm. It’s so beautiful here, even in winter. ♥ 😀 Enjoy!

We call this the Island because it’s an island of trees in the middle of the field. XD

So pretty! ♥

There’s a cute little picturesque white church just over the hill from us. I wish it was our church – we could just walk right over on Sundays! 😀 But sadly, it isn’t.

The rest of these pictures are from a hidden, rather muddy pond in one of the fields. 😀
farm-8-1280x853
It is quite hard to get into because it’s surrounded by brush and thorns and cedar trees. But it’s so secluded and neat once you get in.

I have no idea what these are, but they’re so cute!

farm-5-1280x853
I also found this weird gall on a cedar tree. Mini nature study lesson again: galls are made by certain insects that secrete a sort of chemical or irritant that makes the branch or leaf puff up into a gall. This protects the larva or insect inside. Doesn’t this one look kind of like a brain? XD

farm-6-1280x853
Ahhh, I love moss so much!

The boys were throwing rocks in the pond, and I had fun getting pictures of the splashes. XD

And thus we come to the end. 🙂 Which picture was your favorite? I hope you enjoyed them! 😀

How to Edit Photos, Part 1: The Basics

how-to-edit-photos-part-1-800x800

Hey, guys! 😀

Grace recently wondered if I could do a tutorial on how to edit photos, and I thought that was a great idea! I decided to make this a mini-series, covering basic photo editing, adding effects, touching up photos of people, and maybe a little bit of graphic design and collaging too. I’m really excited!

Anyway, let’s get started. Today I’m going to go over the basic photo editing tools and then show you how to use those tools to fix two common photo problems.

Introduction

I use PicMonkey for pretty much all of my photo editing, and I highly recommend it! It’s very easy to use, and it’s free – although you can pay to upgrade to Royale and get some extra features. (I have Royale, by the way, and I would definitely recommend it if you edit photos a lot. I’ll talk more about Royale later in the series.) But don’t worry about that for now. All the tools I’m going to go over today are completely free.

So, open PicMonkey, and hover over the bar at the top of the page where it says “Edit.” Open the photo you want to work on. The section of the editor that pops up is called “Basic Edits,” and that’s what we’ll be using today.

Basic Edits

  1. Crop: The first tab of the “Basic Edits” section is “Crop.” Cropping is quite a valuable tool that allows you to cut out ugly surroundings from the corners of your pictures, make the composition of your photo more interesting, or simply zoom in closer to the subject.
  2. Canvas Color: This just covers your whole picture with one color. You won’t use it to edit your photos, although it’s great for graphic designing.
  3. Rotate: The rotate tab allows you to flip your picture any way you want. It also allows you to straighten your photo, which is very helpful if you were accidentally holding your camera crooked and your subject looks like it’s sliding off the picture. 😀
  4. Exposure: In my opinion, this is the most important tab in the Basic Edits section (well, maybe it’s tied with “Crop”). You can work wonders simply by adjusting the exposure of a photo, and we’ll be using this tab a lot, later in this post.
  5. Colors: This tab includes sliders for saturation and temperature, as well as a mysterious button called “Neutral Picker.” Actually, it’s not that mysterious. 🙂 Basically, when you click on the parts of your photo that should be white, the Neutral Picker auto-adjusts the temperature to turn those off-colored spots white again. Temperature controls how warm or cool a photo is – in other words, whether it has a red (warm) tint or a blue (cool) tint. And saturation, as you probably already know, makes the colors of your photo more saturated and bright.
  6. Sharpen: Sharpness and Clarity actually ARE different – just a bit. My unscientific description is that Sharpness yields a more subtle effect and focuses on sharpening the details, while Clarity is bolder and boosts the contrast of your photo while giving it a gritty effect at the same time.
  7. Resize: This simply downsizes your photo to a smaller file size so it takes up less space on your computer (or blog). Anywhere between 800 and 1280 (and even a bit larger) would be a good size for sharing online. One thing to keep in mind is the smaller the size, the lower the quality of the picture.

Using Your Tools

Now that you know what everything does, let’s put your tools to use! I’m just going to show you a few examples and walk you through what I did. (Note: the “before” pictures are on the left, and the “after” pictures on the right. Just in case you couldn’t tell. 😉 )

before after 8.jpg

Isn’t it amazing what the Shadows slider can do? That’s seriously all I did. I moved the “Shadows” slider to -44, and that’s it.

before after 4 (1280x640).jpg

This is a more subtle edit, but I think the “after” picture definitely looks more vibrant. The photo on the left is kind of drab and gray, so I upped the saturation a bit and adjusted the exposure. I also straightened the photo so the ocean isn’t tipped to one side like that. (And hmm, I might have lowered the temperature also, but I can’t recall for sure. Oops. XD )

before after 7.jpg

The main difference in this photo is that now you can actually see the cute wittle kitten instead of losing him in the surrounding scenery. I told you cropping was a helpful tool! 😀 I also straightened the photo so the kitten wasn’t falling off the face of the earth, upped the “Sharpness” slider, and adjusted the exposure just a tad.

before after 3 (1280x640).jpg

Wow, so much better! This picture was washed out to begin with, but by lowering the brightness and shadows, and adding a little bit of contrast, it looks bright and beautiful again like it’s supposed to. And speaking of over-exposed photos, we should move on to the fixer upper part of this post. (By the way, I l♥ve the show Fixer Upper! Have you ever watched it? It’s sooo good. Ahem…)

How to Fix an Over-Exposed Photo

An over-exposed photo is one of my most common problems. But thankfully it’s easy and fun to fix!

This is the photo we’ll start with:

087

Eh. The content is good, but the lighting is off: it’s too bright and has a sort of bland grayish-white wash over everything. We must rescue this poor photo in distress!

Pretty much everything you need to fix an over-exposed photo is in the Exposure tab, so go ahead and open that up. The two main things to do for an over-exposed picture are to lower the brightness and lower the shadows. Here’s a screenshot of what I did:

photo editing part 1 5 (1033x518).jpg

You can tell from the sliders that I lowered the brightness and shadows significantly (to -14 and -18 respectively) and added a tiny bit of contrast and highlights. And that’s pretty much it! (Note: I did also use the “Burn” tool to darken a few spots in the photo, but I’ll talk about that more in another post. For now, just concentrate on using the “Exposure” tab.)

Before and after. So much better!

before after 6 (1280x640).jpg

How to Whiten a Photo

Sometimes photos have a weird yellowish or bluish tint, especially on the light parts of a picture.

Like in this photo:

snowy-owlet-1-1-1024x768

This really isn’t a bad picture, but you can see a slight orangish tinge over everything, which makes it look dingy rather than fresh and clean. It’s especially important to get good, clean-looking photos of products you sell, and this owl just so happens to be in my Etsy shop. So, let’s clean him up a bit, shall we?

First, open the “Exposure” tab.

photo editing part 1 10 (1179x522).jpg

The main thing you need to do here is bump up the highlight slider, but I also messed with the brightness and shadows slider a bit too. Here’s a tip: use mostly highlights instead of brightness to brighten up a photo, because too much brightness will make the photo look washed out. “Highlights” brightens just the white parts instead of the whole photo.

photo editing part 1 11 (1182x528).jpg

Next I opened up the “Colors” tab. Since my picture is too red, I moved the Temperature slider down to -10, which added some blue to even it out.

And here’s the before and after. A subtle difference, but do you see how the one on the right looks cleaner, fresher, and more appealing?

before-after-2-1280x640

Well, I guess that’s it! I give you a pat on the back and a virtual bag of chocolates if you read that whole thing. O.o XD

Heh heh. I hope that was helpful to you! Feel free to ask me any questions in the comments if you didn’t understand something. 🙂

Have a lovely day, lovely people!

Random Photography + Some Sad News :(

Hey, guys. I was going to post about that mysterious thing I’ve been hinting at, but unfortunately I can’t really anymore. You see, what I was going to post was that Willow had baby bunnies! But… *SNIIIIIFFF* they aren’t alive anymore. 😦 😦 😦 😦 😦 They were doing just fine even though it was quite chilly, but I think the really windy day we had today was just too much for them. *Cries* Here is one picture to remember them by:

004
This is a picture of one the day it was born (I think). There were five all black babies.

 *Sigh*
Okay, now that’s over with. 😦 Let’s move on to happier subjects, right? I’ve collected several random photographs from my extensive collection.

Let’s start with some cuteness to cheer us up, shall we?

Aww! Look at these two wittle cuties!

I’m sorry about the sad news… but I hope you enjoyed the rest of the post. 🙂 Thank you, my loyal readers! ♥
