Eeeeek, I’m so excited to show you guys these pictures! πŸ˜€ It snowed 6 or 7 inches while we were up at the new farm, and it was GORGEOUS. β™₯ Good thing I brought my camera, heh heh. I also brought the macro extension tube set I got for Christmas and it worked splendidly for taking pictures of individual snowflakes! Sooo pretty.

Anyway, I guess I’ll let you see for yourselves now, huh?

I love this little snowdrift sculpture on the roof. πŸ˜›

Isn’t this neat? It’s kind of hard to tell, but it’s snow on a wooden staircase.

Dripping icicles are great fun to take pictures of. πŸ™‚

DSC_2141 (1280x856)snow 17 (1280x1280)

I think this one’s neat too. β™₯ It kind of looks vintage to me – does it to you?

snow 15 (1117x1280)

There were some cute birds by the hay rebaling barn and I got some… okay pictures. They wouldn’t let me get too close, and I was only wearing tennis shoes in the snow so I didn’t WANT to get too close or my feet would get completely soaked. XD

snow 13 (1280x901)snow 14 (1280x1280)

Ohhhh for some reason I love this picture. β™₯ REMEMBER THOSE DOUGHNUTS?

snow 11 (1280x854)

Snow + Cows = Photogenicness. Sadly I took this out the car window so it isn’t as photogenic as it could be.

snow 9 (1280x854)

I quite like how you can see the snow falling so clearly in these pictures!

DSC_1990 (1280x854)DSC_1985 (854x1280)

The falling snow… the wooden fences… the covered trees… ahh, I think I can safely say snow looks even prettier down there than up here, and that’s saying something. XD

DSC_1984 (1280x854)

Alright, now for my favorite part – the close-ups!

DSC_1971 (854x1280)

Look, you can see the invidual snowflake(s)!

snow 5 (1280x854)

Snowflakes are incredibly beautiful. β™₯

snow 3 (1280x853)snow 2 (1280x854)snow 1 (1280x854)

And now for my pride and joy… ta-daa!

snow 7 (1280x854)

snow 8 (1280x960)

Isn’t it so beautifully delicate? I just LOVE zooming in and being able to see the intricacy of each snowflake. β™₯ So far this is definitely my favorite part about that lens set. I’ll hopefully do a review of them once I take more photos with them and figure them out a bit more, but they’re quite neat so far!

One thing I will say – you have to use manual focus which is difficult when taking such close-up pictures. Even a tiny movement can make the subject blurry. But other than that, I love them!

I hope you enjoyed these pictures, dears. πŸ˜€ Which ones were your favorites? Did you get snow where you live too?

***Allison***

P. S. Guys, if you love photography too, you should definitely check out Roxanne’s photography challenge! I probably won’t be doing it since, as I keep saying, we’re pretty busy with the move, but it looks super neat and I’ll bet it will be great fun!

  1. Pretty photos, Allison! I especially like this one-https://allisonsblog2.files.wordpress.com/2018/01/dsc_1985-854×1280.jpg?w=440&zoom=2-and this one-https://allisonsblog2.files.wordpress.com/2018/01/snow-15-1117×1280.jpg?w=440&zoom=2. I agree with you about the photo you thought looked vintage. It kind of does, and I like it! πŸ™‚ The zoomed in photo of the snowflake is so amazing!
We did get a bunch of snow here (a few inches, I think), and we had fun sledding, walking around in the snow, and sliding on ice. I would have taken lots of pictures, too, but I’m not sure I should take my camera outside when it’s really cold. Does your camera manual say anything about that for your camera?

P.S. I’m curious; did you mean to make your pictures for this post smaller than usual? I figured you did, but then I read the post in my Reader, and the pictures were normal size for your blog. But on your blog, they’re all small except for the first one.

    1. Thanks so much, Sassafras! Ooh yes, I like that one too. πŸ™‚ Yeah – thanks! πŸ˜€
Ooh, really? That sounds GREAT! That’s sometimes how I feel about cold and cameras too, but I’ve taken my camera in all sorts of less-than-safe situations and it’s still perfectly alright. πŸ™‚ Especially the cold I’m sure is okay. It might not be good if you buried it in snow or something, but otherwise… πŸ˜‰
      P. S. OH NO! Nope, I didn’t mean to do that, argh! Thank you so much for telling me – I really appreciate it. *sigh* I’ll try to fix it, but I don’t know. WordPress is weird sometimes.

      1. Yes, I just love snow! We made a snow cave, too, but it’s not very big. πŸ˜‰
Okay, thanks for your advice! πŸ™‚ What kind of camera do you have? You’ve probably said this before, but I forget… πŸ˜›

          1. Oh, wow, you do have the same camera I do (yay for Nikon D3400s)! I’m not actually sure I knew that… XD Have you had any problems with your lens cap? A piece broke off mine, and so fits loosely on the lens.

            1. Woohoo! Yes, I quite like it! XD Hmm, not really, although I don’t actually leave it on that much. :[] But that’s unfortunate. :/ You could probably get a replacement somewhere…

          1. A couple weeks ago we got ice and then a little bit of snow… I went to slide down our driveway on my board, slipped, and bounced my head off the ice…. That wasn’t fun, but it stopped hurting after about 15 minutes. πŸ™‚

    1. Aww, thanks, Mallory! Yeah, it’s pretty amazing how close up you can get with those lenses. Although once I took a pretty close up picture with your camera (I mean my old camera that was the same as yours :P).

  13. Allison, I am so glad I checked out your blog….You definitely have an eye for photography, and I really enjoyed your macro shots. My favorites: the last one reminds me of a pearl in an oyster! But I also love the snowflakes on the weathered wood. Just screams “farm life”! Very much looking forward to a review on your new gear and any tips you can offer as I too am interested (and don’t have a clue) about taking better macros. Good job!
