Low Streams & High Bridges {Walks with Friends}

Hello, dears!

How is everyone today? Are you guys getting as much sopping wet, cloudy weather as we are? MAN. Sunshine is a rare occurrence these days. *shakes head* Well, if you’re in need of some cheering up, I have a fun, sunny post for you today! Last month (yep, I’m behind in posting XD) two families from our old church came up to visit us and we had a ton of fun with them. ❀

With the first friends that came, we went down to the lovely stream on our property to explore. And… get wet, as it turned out. XD XD But let me not get ahead of myself…

Ahem. There are SO MANY BUTTERFLIES on our farm – I love it! That day there were some gorgeous swallowtails by the creek. Butterflies are just astonishingly beautiful. ❀

We also found some jewelweed which is supposed to help poison ivy? I don’t know – has anyone tried it? Not me. I wonder if it helps mosquito bites, because I got a TON from… well, that’s a story for another post. πŸ˜‰

Not sure what the boys were deliberating here, heh heh.

Right as we entered the stream, one of us saw a crayfish hiding in the water. Megan (my sister), was like, “WHERE, WHERE?” She finally caught it but MY, it was fierce! It pinched her and hung on, which was hilarious to see but apparently rather painful for Megan (she was laughing, though). :’D

Maggie, our yellow lab, came along with us and decided she wanted to cool off. It’s funny because even though she’s a labrador retriever, she doesn’t like going in deep water. She just prefers wading. πŸ™‚

Well if you know Megan, you can probably guess what comes next… she decided to cool off too. XD XD Yes, even with normal clothes on – it was warm enough that she would dry off quick, she said.

She ended up COMPLETELY DUNKING herself and getting drenched. :’D Why am I not surprised? (Also side note: LOOK AT THAT BOKEHHHHH.)

After Megan got wet, Jeff said he would do it too… and lived to regret his words. After a bit he changed his mind and decided he didn’t really want to, but we all held him to it, hee hee. On the way back he finally agreed. XD HA HA THIS PICTURE CRACKS ME UP. I think some of the boys got impatient for him to dunk under already and splashed him by throwing rocks into the puddle, which he pretended to get mad about. XD

At long last he was ready to do the deed… *everyone holds their breath*

IT WAS HILARIOUS. He thought the water was QUITE cold and, as you can see, he was very expressive about it. XD XD I’m so glad I got these pictures!

Oh dear. XD Anyway, now for some calmerΒ pictures. πŸ˜‰ Like bokeh + a shimmery spiderweb + ferns. ❀

I just love this stream – it’s so peaceful and charming and pretty. ❀

Ohhhhh my, doesn’t this just look magical? I think that hole would be a perfect spot to build a fairy house, don’t you agree?

Well, anyway, after that little adventure we made our way back up the stream. And guess what? I saw another butterfly! πŸ˜€

We all loaded up in the Mule (UTV, not animal), and roared back the way we came: through a rather grown-up path between the corn. And that’s the end of that! πŸ˜€ It was great fun. *happy sigh*

Now for the second walk! Some other friends spent the night at our guest house on the farm, which was GREAT. It meant we had more time for doing things like visiting a super tall bridge/hike/trail nearby!

We saw this strange but pretty vine growing on a tree beside the path. It looked kind of like a cross between a grape vine and wisteria, but I don’t think it was either.

OH YES, and then we found a snake! I’m not fond of snakes in general, but this little guy was so cute that he was an exception. Snakes are extremely strange, aren’t they? They don’t have legs but they can move and climb so fast… and even tie themselves in knots!

OKAY I LOVE THIS PICTURE. It’s one of my favorites in this post, actually! I’m aware that yes, it is a picture of a SNAKE, but still… I think it’s so pretty for some reason. ❀

He really was like a little vine come alive – and such a brilliant shade of green!

Alright, alright, I’m done with the snake pictures now. You can open your eyes. πŸ˜‰ Now for the bridge pictures! The bridge was so tall it was higher than the trees. O.o It was quite sturdy and safe, though, don’t worry.

I forget if I meant to get my mom in the picture or not, but I like how it looks anyway. πŸ™‚

The bridge is REALLY REALLY LONG, but thankfully it’s broken up by little overlook stations. Or more like downlooks, judging by the photo. XD

It was fun to cross the bridge, but MAN it was hot that day.

Hee hee, my youngest sister Carmen walked with her friend and it was so funny – they were making up poems together. πŸ˜€ πŸ™‚

We had crossed most of the bridge before we actually came to the river… which was rather brown and muddy, as you can see.

Some of us walked (I mean ran) to the end of the bridge after that, and then everyone went alllll the way back. Some of the kids (and a few adults XD) tried to run their hands over the wire grating fence thingy along the sides of the bridge until we got to the end. I tried it for a little bit and it quickly made your hand numb. O.o Some of them were complaining about how much it hurt and we’re like, “HA HA, GUYS, no one is forcing you to do this.” XD XD It was pretty funny. Anyway, they made it to the end without their hands falling off, so that was good. We didn’t see any snakes on the way back, but I DID find these lovely purple flowers! YAY PURPLE.

There were butterflies all OVER the gravel pathway, both coming and going, but they were hard to get pictures of since they fluttered around so fast as you walked. So the last picture I have for you is a nice sky-and-silhouette picture with puffy cumulus clouds. πŸ™‚

And… yeah, that’s about it! Both adventures were a lot of fun, and it was SO nice to see our old friends again. I hope you enjoyed coming along with us!

Which adventure did you like best? What was your favorite picture? Would you dunk underwater with normal clothes on? And was the snake cute or still too… snake-y for you? XD

Thank you so much for reading, dears, and please have a lovely day!

  1. Thank God for sunshine! It’s been a dull shade of gray for a while.
Also, getting dunked sounds pretty refreshing right now. XD It’s hot!
Love the snake pictures! πŸ˜€ Did I mention snakes are one of my favorites?

    1. YES INDEEDY. It’s sunny today, FINALLY. It’s seriously been raining almost every day for WEEKS. *shakes head*
Ha ha, really? It’s actually pretty cool here.
Yay, I’m so glad you liked them! Oh no, I didn’t know that! One of my friends (actually her whole family) loves snakes too, which I think is a BIT strange, but hey. XD
      Thanks for the comment, Jo!

  2. HA HA OH I LOVED THIS POST. Oh goodness, I seriously LAUGHED. OUT. LOUD. at Jeff. XD One of those pictures reminds me so much of him and his personality and of being there with you guys. πŸ™‚ Ahhh, I love all these pictures! The butterfly ones were great. And the SNAKE WAS CUTE. And man, that bridge is cool! UGH I WISH I WAS WITH YOU. And I think when we come up in the summertime, I should dunk underwater. *nods* XD

    1. AWW I AM SO GLAD YOU DIIIIID! Heheheheh, I don’t blame you. XD XD *shakes head in amusement* Thanks so much, dear! I like those too. I KNOW, RIGHT? UGGGGGHHH ME TOOOO. Hee hee, definitely. πŸ˜‰

        1. HA HA, GOOD QUESTION. XD But it was because the only poisonous snakes we have in this area are copperheads and one other snake… either cottonmouths or water moccasins, I think, and he definitely wasn’t either of those. πŸ˜‰

            1. OH I DIDN’T THINK ABOUT THAT. BUUUUT did you know that (mostly) poisonous snakes have slitted pupils and non-poisonous snakes have round pupils? And this guy had round pupils. Of course by the time we got close enough to see that… he could have bitten us. XD

  3. Ooh, looks like fun!! I love the butterfly pictures! πŸ™‚ That spot does look like a neat place for a fairy house! That picture of Carmen and her friend is so cute…..;)

  4. This ALL is so cute! Ya’ll always seem to have the greatest of adventures together!!! πŸ˜‰
And I HAVE to ask, okay a two questions. First have you heard of Ink-tober? And second, if you do know about it, will you be doing it this year? Just in case you haven’t heard of it heres a link!! I think you’d LOVE to do this.

    1. Aww, well thanks! Yesssss, we do have a lot of fun. πŸ™‚
OOH, very good questions. 1) Yep, I’ve heard of it! 2) You know, I hadn’t really thought about it, but now that you mention it… maybe I should! It does sound pretty fun, and it would be good to practice every day. So yeah, maybe I will! Thanks so much for asking, dear. πŸ™‚ Are YOU doing it?

      1. Oh YAY!! I’m glad your interested in it! And sorry for not responding sooner. My bad, heh heh heeeeeh… Yes I am! Obviously, Ive already started and Man its keeping me busy! But i’m doing it with a few other friends, and we’re all enjoying it. Its So fun to see how different our ideas are for each prompt! Ive JUST finished Prompt CHICKEN! Lol :’D

        1. I am! Except I haven’t done ANY yet because we just had a super busy week and weekend, so I guess I’ll just do it informally now. :/ Ha ha, no problem at all! Oh my, I’m sure. O.o That sounds like so much fun! Heh heh, YAYYYY. XD What was your drawing like?

  5. Oh, this is SO cool (literally for Jeff, lol!)!!! And my favorite picture is the blue butterfly.

Do you by any chance have a list of fun things to do with kids in a variety of ages? I babysit a family of 6 kids, ages 1-11, and sometimes finding something they can all do is hard! Just curious! πŸ™‚

    1. HA HA. XD Ahh, thanks! I love that picture too. πŸ™‚
Ooh, great question! I know that can be super hard. :[] Well I don’t have a list per se, but you can check out my “Fun for Kids” Pinterest board here: https://www.pinterest.com/allmb/fun-for-kids/
Flubber, slime, playdough, etc. is usually a hit, but it could be a problem for the one year old… you could try edible/non-toxic playdough? Kids also usually like when you bring books and games from your house – it’s just fun to see what you brought in your bag! πŸ™‚ I hope some of that helped, and thanks for asking!

  6. That snake is so beautiful! Snakes are a bit creepy, but they’re really interesting, don’t you think? I think they’re amazing.
Haha, yay Megan! I would probably NOT have dunked my head in a freezing cold stream, but I admire people who have the nerve to do it. πŸ˜‰ I LOVE the pictures of Jeff…XD That laughter was surely beneficial to my health.

    1. I know, isn’t it? Yeah, I agree completely – creepy but interesting. Kind of like spiders.
HA HA. Yep. πŸ˜› Oh my goodness, I’m SO glad to hear that the pictures of Jeff made you laugh, although I’m not overly surprised. His expressions were hilarious. XD XD

  7. That’s a beautiful blue butterfly! How did you take such good pictures of it without it flying away?
Wow/aww/don’t-know-what-my-reaction-is-supposed-to-be, that snake is really umm, unique (?), kinda cute (?), really cool (?), super pretty (the greeennnn! So vibrant!)! (That sentence does not make sense… xD)
Wow! That’s a really cool bridge! And yes, it looks pretty high! Also, I almost (well, I kinda did) laughed out loud when I read what you were saying about the overlooks/downlooks. xD
I first thought those clouds were painted! They look super cool, God’s creation is awesome!

    1. Ahh, isn’t it? Well this one wasn’t very shy. I was as quiet and soft as I could be, and it just stayed there! πŸ˜€
HA HA I understand your confusion about the snake. :’D XD XD
It is! HEH HEH, I’m so glad to hear that. XD I love making people laugh. πŸ˜›
Ahhh, I know, right? It is indeed. ❀

  8. This was such a fun post! We had a bunch of rainy days in a row, too, but this weekend was so beautiful! I’ve heard that jewel weed is good for poison ivy, but I’ve never used it. I’ve actually had a lot of success in recent years with hardly getting any poison ivy, which is good. I think the key is to wash soon after you touch it.
I love the pictures of when you all were in the creek. They’re so funny, and also quite sharp.
To answer your questions, I probably wouldn’t dunk underwater with clothes on, especially in our creek. Also, I see how you can like those snake pictures, but it’s still a snake. I really don’t like snakes, especially when they go in our pool skimmer. πŸ˜›

    1. Why thank you, dear! YES, this weekend was lovely for us too! Wow, that’s great! Yeah, that probably helps. Thankfully I don’t get much poison ivy – just mosquito bites. :/
Aww, thanks! I like those too. πŸ™‚
Heh heh, well I probably wouldn’t either. πŸ˜‰ HA, well that’s alright. I quite understand and I’m not offended (can’t answer for the snake, though XD XD). Eww, GROSS. That would be awful. O.o
Thank you so much for the marvelous comment, Sassafras!

      1. You’re welcome, Allison! πŸ™‚ That’s great that you had a nice weekend, as well. Sunny Fall days are just beautiful.
Yeah, I get mosquito bites much more than poison ivy. Thankfully, I don’t get them too much around here because of our frog and toad population. Have you you ever tried rubbing plantain leaves on bug bites to relieve the itching? It really works!
Haha, I don’t particularly care if I offend the snake. XD
Before I end this comment, I just want to ask if you received my email I sent at the beginning of September? I was starting to think that it didn’t go through or something…

        1. Ahh, they ARE! That’s wonderful! Ooh, really? I’ll have to try that.
Heh heh, that’s a very good point. XD
Wait… yes, I’m pretty sure I replied to one a long time ago. OH MY GOODNESS DID IT SERIOUSLY NOT WORK AGAIN. I will check tomorrow and see if it sent. OH NO.

  9. This was such a fun post! πŸ˜€ It looks like you had a lot of fun with your friends and all of the photos you got are GORGEOUS! The whole series of photos with Megan getting soaked was very entertaining. XD ALSO I THINK YOU MAY HAVE DISCOVERED THE WORLD’S MOST ADORABLE SNAKE. That second photo of him is probably my favorite picture in this post! πŸ˜€ I’ve been wanting to catch a little grass snake for years, but I haven’t found one yet. One day! XD Now off to comment on your giveaway post… I’m so behind on blog posts. πŸ˜›

    1. Yay, I’m glad to hear it! Ahhh, THANK YOU! HA HA I KNOW, wasn’t it? XD AWWW YES IT WAS SO CUTE. I hope you can find one soon, hee hee. Oh my, I feel you – I’m so behind too. O.o And behind on comments… I’ll reply to your other one in just a moment! πŸ˜€
