Etcetera #16 {Alpacas, Potatoes, & River Adventures}

Hello, my friends!

Welcome back to another scrapbook of random photos and behind-the-scenes shots from the past few months! I’m including some phone photography this time, because… these ducks deserve to be on my blog. *nods* I’ll keep the introduction short since we have a lot of photos to get through, but you guys know how this works. Warm up your scrolling fingers and enjoy some cute animals, pretty skies, bright flowers, etcetera!

portraits

We’ll start with a strange but neat double-exposure. I haven’t done one of these in a looong time, but they’re so much fun. I should do another whole post of them like this one.

1

My “selfies” are usually intentional self-portraits with my camera rather than quick snapshots with my phone, but here’s a rare phone self-portrait which I really like.

IMG_20210624_211246001

A few bonus pictures from the most recent sisters photoshoot! I save this one for later since the edit didn’t fit with the rest of the post.

Guys, I THINK I LIKE BLACK AND WHITE PICTURES TOO MUCH. There are so many B&Ws in this post!

DSC_2069

Carmen takes excellent care of our bunnies. Once she brought them each in for a grooming session with a new… uh, furbrush? Is that a thing?

DSC_3535

Here’s Carmen carefully giving Oregano a bath and blow-dry. 😀 Huh, I’m not sure if I’ve shown you guys a picture of Oregano yet. The numbers and names of our rabbits keep fluctuating; I should probably do an update post sometime.

IMG_20210826_170855777

We’ll end this section with another phone picture that makes me happy every time I see it. We helped some friends set up their big tent for an event and got to pet the ducks as well. IS THIS NOT ADORABLE?!

pets

Speaking of ducks… I took this at the same friends’ house, but with my new phone which has a waaaaay better camera. Cottagecore, anyone?

PXL_20210830_172214564

Okay, okay, I apologize for interrupting your drink, but you don’t have to glare at me like that!

PXL_20210830_172235773

Back to Basil. Hehe, her ears cascading off to the side…

DSC_3531

Ah, the fuzziness!

collage 7

HAHA oh yeah! I was taking pictures for this sunflower post when this little guy streaked across the lane. I barely managed to get a picture of him (or her) before Maggie chased it away. At first I thought it was a bobcat since it had some of the same markings and no long tail like cats usually do. But nope, it was just a bob… cat. 😛

DSC_1881

Nellie is ridiculous. She has a whole pasture all to herself, but she MUST get the grass just outside the fence…

IMG_20210730_194846895_HDR

HAHA this one cracks me up. Most of our hay customers own horses, but a few own alpacas or llamas which have a strong sense of curiosity and no sense of personal space whatsoever.

flowers

All I have to say about this one is…. it’s one of my favorite photos I’ve taken recently. ❤

DSC_0144

The soft window lighting on these brilliant African violets made me want to do an entire photoshoot of this one flower pot. Oh. Apparently I kinda did. Heh. I love how peaceful and still these pictures feel.

collage 3.2collage 3

I believe these are extras from this photoshoot. I’m glad I could include them here; it’d be a shame to let them go to waste.

collage 1

Mom is growing cabbage rose thingies where you strip the bottom leaves and are left with a rosebud-looking “flower” at the top. They look pretty neat from above.

IMG_20210730_200202416

Crepe Myrtle with my new camera! Gracious, I used four different cameras for this post – my old and new phone and old and new camera.

DSC_3514-2

The white flower in this tin can bouquet is gomphrena. It’s kinda like regular clover but with a lovelier shape.

blog post color (28)

Zinnias are some of the brightest flowers you can grow, although Mom also got some muted green-toned ones which are pretty too.

collage 9

Last but not least, these cheery little sunflowers! Mom brings in buckets of flowers to arrange for the flower truck later. In the meantime we get to enjoy huge, five-gallon bucket “bouquets” like this one.

collage 8

at the river

One of my friends recently invited Megan and I and some other girls over for a day of swimming, baking, and conversation. We went down to the river behind their house, and I couldn’t resist taking a bunch of photos because HELP SO PRETTY! We’ll start with this giant sycamore tree.

PXL_20210830_172952338

You had to descend a perilously steep slope to reach the water.

PXL_20210830_173040506

Stepping into the river at first meant squishing into deep mud, but thankfully it turned to rocks as you went on.

PXL_20210830_173245396

Ah, now I want to go back! The water was shallow and not too cold, but still refreshing on a hot, sunny day.

PXL_20210830_173615311

OH LOOK, IT’S WILLIE! I didn’t realize I had a picture of him until just now! We found a log caught on the rocks and heroically set him free to float away wherever he wished. Be free, Willie! 😛

landscapes

One evening after a rainstorm the sky was all orange and glowy, with the puffiest cumulus clouds.

collage 2

This looks both ominous and tranquil at the same time, you know?

DSC_2058

The clouds were towering. So so pretty.

DSC_2063

And here’s an actual sunset. Ah, I never get tired of beautiful skies.

DSC_2064

Another bonus from the sisters photoshoot I linked earlier. Maggie had to guard us from deer…

DSC_2250

Here’s a less nature-filled one. I really liked the architecture (I almost typed architexture and that would be accurate) of this bridge with the city in the background.

IMG_20210824_191215058

Back to the farm. 🙂 This was my view out the bedroom hall window one day.

DSC_1278

Dad’s working on putting up a big grain bin which will hopefully hold all our corn harvest for the year! It’s actually the same huge one we played in at our previous farm, as you can read about in this very old post.

DSC_3492-2

indoor photography

Despite posting tons of indoor photos recently, I still have more! Apparently I’m drawn to photos that feel calm and peaceful, like this one.

DSC_1291

The most vintage corner of our dining room, with an old mirror, books, and candlestick. Bright bouquets help liven it up.

DSC_1173

Remember the ship from this library room tour? (Good grief, I’m linking so many posts today.) Well, it’s still there, just on a different stand.

blog post color (10)

The sun coming through lace curtains made such a pretty pattern on the leaves.

DSC_0035

A half-melted candle and its reflected twin.

blog post color (20)

A beautiful old piano at another friend’s house.

collage 4

etcetera

I forget if Dad or a brother was driving, but anyway, they were making hay one day when it was super hazy.

DSC_1939

I really like this black and white version. ❤ (But of course.)

DSC_1929

A random phone shot of what a large portion of my farm work looks like: riding in the truck to help with hay deliveries. I need to take more phone photos of everyday life like this, just to remember. Logan’s cap in the rearview mirror, a granola bar wrapper in the cupholder, and old music playing from the speakers. Good times.

IMG_20210629_102413256_HDR

Another awful-quality phone photo, but one I wanted to share because look! Aren’t the colors perfect? We stopped at a gas station and I couldn’t help noticing all the blues and interesting lines + angles in both the sky and the building.

IMG_20210629_101906990~2

A blurry moth hiding in these soft green weeds.

DSC_3508-2

We’ll end with some photos of the evening we dug potatoes. The girls and Mom were the gatherers and my dad and brothers were the plowers. 🙂

collage 10

We didn’t get near as many as we should have, but at least it was close to a wheelbarrow load. That’s something! And some of the potatoes were HUGE.

IMG_20210730_201520527

We’ll end with my favorite potato. He’s happy you came to see him but sad that you have to leave now.

IMG_20210730_200533257

Well that was a fun post to put together! I hope you guys enjoyed this fun feast of leftovers, so to speak. 😛 And I hope it didn’t get too long, good gracious. Maybe I should do Etcetera posts more often.

Do you prefer really long posts like these or shorter photoshoots? What photo or category was your favorite? Let me know in the comments!

Thanks so much for reading, my friends, and have a lovely day!

  3. As usually Allison some vivid and spectacular photos with very interesting composition and subjects! All of the animals are adorable and you and your sister look like you totally belong right where you are fitting in perfectly! The floral shots are so nicely done and the colors are rich, varied and eye popping sensations to me! I can’t say there is one shot that I didn’t like in the bunch as they all keep my attention, even gazing up into the tree tops! You’re having a good time and building so many memories while recording them for posterity; and you sure are putting that new camera to work! I only had a few hours’ sleep last night so I’m wiped out otherwise if I weren’t I would sit taking them in some more! Well there is always tomorrow!
    Congratulation on a fine job!

You take care and many blessings to you and yours! 🙏💗 ✝️ 💗🙏

        Thanks again!

  4. This was such a fun post to come back too. 🙂 I’ve been meaning to comment on your last few posts, but college and work has kept me away from blogging. Anyway, I LOVED all of these as always. I especially liked the very first photo and the Zinnias. So beautiful! Also, all of your photos by the river were so pretty, as well as the sunset. Love the modest swimsuits too. And that colored sky, how does one describe it in words? An absolutely beautiful photo and a sight I’ve never experienced. Thank you for these lovely photos, Allison!
