Flower Garden at Golden Hour

Hello friends!

I know I just made a garden post, but I took my camera to my family’s house the other day and couldn’t resist sharing some of the beautiful floral goodness from my mom’s garden. Gotta get in alllll the flowers before fall is truly upon us, right?

Taking flower pictures at golden hour is like my favorite type of photography ever. In such a pretty setting, my job is basically “have a nice camera and point it at pretty things.” So easy and relaxing. Plus it yields such beautiful results!

I hope this dose of color and sunlight brightens your day. ❤

We’ll start with one of my favorites: a tiny moth resting on a sweet little dahlia. The glowy light in this picture… ❤

Another dahlia, beautiful in its striking red color and symmetrical petal shapes.

This unique flower is called a tuberose and smells very floral and perfumed.

Nature photography is best at golden hour and I’m sticking to it. The contrast, vibrant colors, and warm light highlight the subjects so well!

I meant to photograph this bee and ended up capturing a second bug in flight as well. Can you spot it?

Another small moth sampling the garden buffet. See his tongue, or I guess proboscis?

Ahhh I love the contrast of light and dark in this one!

Fluffy white blooms in a sea of bright green.

These purple phlox were incredibly vibrant!

Cosmos are such lovely, photogenic flowers.

I’m really liking the contrast of colorful flowers with a green background here, hehe.

I had almost forgotten how amazing a 50mm 1.8 lens is for nature photography but I sure remember now! Look how crisp the focus is on the petals and how soft the blur and bokeh looks in the background!

A collection of colorful zinnias standing at their trademark stiff attention.

More contrast! More glow! More flower! Yay!

Sunflowers seem like the epitome of a summer flower to me, but a few were still blooming even almost in fall! Backlit sunflowers are some of the cheerfulest things.

This one looks like it’s cocking its head to say hello. 🙂

We’ll end with another of my favorites from this shoot. This picture brings me joy. ❤

I hope that photoshoot brought as much joy to you as it did to me. 🙂 I don’t think I’ll ever tire of photographing nature in general and flowers in particular. It’s the perfect way to preserve their fleeting beauty.

Which picture(s) did you like best? What is your favorite kind of flower?

Thanks so much for reading, my friends, and have a lovely day!

  2. Ah, these are so beautiful, Allison! I have a flower garden of my own with cosmos and zinnias, and they make for such pretty photos (my favorites are on dewy mornings right after sunrise :))
