Snapshots from the Outer Banks

Hello friends!

I’m back with the second half of my vacation pictures from our recent trip to OBX. Today’s post will feel sort of like an “Etcetera” collection since it features all the random photos that didn’t fit into the last one.

Read on for Jeep duckies, beach flowers, good eats, and a proud pigeon. Enjoy this random collection!

Starting off with this beachside bush that smelled AMAZING. Maybe the flowers are related to jasmine?

We made a trip out to Cape Hatteras lighthouse… which turned out to be covered in scaffolding, ha! So we turned around and drove back. But at least the drive was scenic.

After that lighthouse fail, we went to see the one along Currituck Sound. It was rather short but quaint and the surroundings were beautiful.

post 2 (10)

So green and pastoral! The chickens roaming the lighthouse grounds made me happy.

post 2 (15)

Looking fancy among the dandelions, hehe.

post 2 (12)

A sweet pup waiting outside one of the buildings…

More pictures from the Sound. The bushes lining the water looked sculpted and twisted from the wind.

post 2 (7)

Nothing brings peace like watching water ripple in the breeze…

Our Airbnb was super cute! Here are a few shots of the interior, featuring the breakfasts I packed for us. The meals from this post had varying degrees of success; my favorites were the smoothies, quinoa salad, and sourdough crackers.

Speaking of food… we found some really good restaurants! Here are some of our favorite meals from the trip.

Is it just me or do flying birds instantly add artistic interest to an otherwise boring picture? Sully was thrilled to cross this long bridge; he’s slightly obsessed with bridges. 😀

post 2 (17)

I wished we could have visited this island or peninsula place because it looked so aesthetic! This was the best shot I could get from the bridge.

post 2 (18)

A nice minimal black and white featuring random guys by the side of the road at Pea Island park.

post 2 (19)

I found these adorable lily-pad-looking plants all over. They have such a cute shape.

post 2 (20)

More beach nature! Bright colors in the golden hour light.

post 2 (21)

These are the lovely-smelling beach florals again. So elegant and pretty.

Fences are also good for adding interest to minimal landscapes. Very beachy-looking.

post 2 (24)

I got so many bird-in-the-sky pictures… and one of an airplane too.

post 2

One of my favorite photos from the trip although it doesn’t look beachy at all. Nothing like a good “dried weeds at golden hour” shot, right? 🙂

post 2 (33)

I had fun exercising my photographer’s creativity with this one: I’m proud of the complimentary colors, framed composition, and balance. Still a pretty ordinary photo, but I like it.

post 2 (34)

An aesthetic slightly run-down beach cottage.

post 2 (35)

And another one in a pretty blue shade. One of my favorite things about beach areas is the pretty pastel colors and fun architecture of the buildings and homes.

post 2 (36)

I also love the twisty trees! Isn’t this one beautiful?

post 2 (37)

Haha I saw multiple Jeeps sporting rows of rubber ducks on the dashboard. Apparently it’s a thing? It always made me smile.

post 2 (1)

We shall end with an out-of-focus but amusing picture of this pigeon who was splashing in the birdbath as if he owned the place. I don’t know why it made Sully and I laugh but it sure did.

post 2 (38)

As much as I loved taking pictures of the obvious beauty of beach and seashore, it was a lot of fun to capture the more ordinary moments as well. I hope you enjoyed them!

Which picture is your favorite?

Thanks so much for reading, my friends, and have a lovely day!

  1. Beautiful! You’re such an amazing photographer! And funny enough, my mom has the same obsession about going on bridges. XD

  3. Beautiful photos, Allison! I commented on the last post which showed it was published successfully, but I guess something happened… This is where I sigh at technology, ha! I enjoyed last week’s post!

I love the soft colors of cream and white. My favorite pictures are the grounds of the lighthouse, where the chickens were roaming, and the twisty tree. :)

My family got a letter from the mortgage company that our foreclosure date is June 4. I so pray our house will sell before then. I wish I could step into the photos you took; they’re so peaceful.

Your posts always bring a smile to my face, friend! God bless you!

    1. Oops! It usually comes through even if it doesn’t show up but after the busy weekend I don’t remember if it did or not, hehe.

Ah thanks for sharing your favorites! Good picks.

Oh no! I will be praying, friend. That sounds so stressful and scary. Praying for peace and the sale of your house.

So glad you enjoyed the post though! Thanks Valentine.
