Falling Leaves & Autumn Things

It finally feels like fall here! We’ve been taking family walks in the evening with Sully wearing Sophia in a baby carrier. It’s so fun and so cute, and a beautiful time of year to do it.

Although the weather is crisp and lovely, the leaves still are barely turning for the most part. I couldn’t wait any longer to do some fall photography, so I went out into my yard to see what snippets of autumn I could conjure up. I hope you enjoy the results!

I recently transplanted some flowers my aunt gave me, including these unique chrysanthemums. Aren’t the petals interesting?

Our maple tree tends to just drop its leaves rather than turning pretty colors first, but the foliage does look nice and golden when the sun shines through it.

I’m not a “hardcore” fall girl, but it was impossible not to delight in the crunching leaves as I walked around to take these pictures.

Our tree also loses its leaves way earlier than most of the other trees around. Such a pretty view from our kitchen windows.

The holly bushes are more laden with red berries than I have ever seen in my life! I’m sure they’ll feature in a future winter or holiday post, but I couldn’t resist photographing the bountiful harvest of berries for this one too.

Leave it to my 50mm lens to make even a dead leaf look interesting and autumnal!

I think dead weeds at golden hour are an underrated aspect of fall, haha.

My cherry tomatoes somehow survived The Great Gnawing of my garden by pests this year, and managed to produce abundantly. There are still a few orange globes hanging on.

Dogwood bushes have so many variations of color and texture within one leaf.

Here’s a maple tree in our neighborhood that kept its leaves long enough for them to turn!

Most of our maple leaves are kind of a dull yellow, but I found this pretty orange one! I love how leaves glow when held up to the sun.

Someone brought a box of gourds to church and I picked out these two for our front porch.

String lights look even cozier in the cooler weather.

Ending the post with a few pretty miscellaneous photos. 🙂

I hope you enjoyed scrolling through these little autumn snippets as much as I enjoyed capturing them! I’m hoping to enjoy the fall weather some more this week with Sophia – maybe a couple more walks or sitting out on the porch with her. 🙂 She’s growing so fast and is becoming such a smiley, adorable little girl! (I say as she screams in the background because she doesn’t want to nap. :’D ) I will be back with more Sophia pictures soon!

Does it look like fall where you live yet?

Thanks so much for reading, my friends, and have a lovely day!

P. S. Photos taken with my Nikon D7200 and a 50mm lens. Edited with Lightroom. I accidentally shot these in JPEG instead of RAW (every photographer’s nightmare), so the editing might be a little weird…

  1. Lovely photos! I especially like the ones of the holly berries. So gorgeous. 🙂

As a photographer, I concur that RAW is great, but I actually shoot JPEG the majority of the time, since the file sizes are so much smaller and they’re simpler to edit. So I mostly just use RAW for client photoshoots, haha!

    1. Thank you! The holly bushes are striking this year; I’m sure I’ll take many more photos of them in the future.
I guess that’s fair! RAW does take up a lot of space. But I hate trying to edit with my normal presets since JPEGs don’t respond the same way RAW does.

      1. Nice! I look forward to the photos! We have a holly bush, but it barely produces berries, which is sad.

Yes, it would be difficult to go back and forth with RAW and JPEG when using the same presets. I’m still working on refining my editing techniques, as I use Darktable, since it’s free, but a little tricky to use. But I really miss Lightroom, which I had in college!

        1. Aww that’s too bad. I’ve seen other holly bushes with lots of berries this year so maybe it’s a local thing.

Huh, I haven’t heard of Darktable. But yes I do love Lightroom! There’s a free mobile version so I guess it’s possible to transfer photos to your phone and edit there?

  2. Beautiful photos! The holly bushes were my favorite, as well as the last three photos (the autumn colored bokeh is gorgeous). Your photo editing style is so pretty! You really can’t tell that they’re jpegs (:

  3. What a beautiful maple tree! They’re one of my favorite trees for sure. 🙂

As our fall is not really a fall, I enjoyed these photos and imagining cooler temperatures. It’s currently 91 degrees. 😦 Texas refuses to let go of summer weather, haha!

I love the holly berries! I can’t wait to see how you’ll decorate with them. And I look forward to more pictures of baby Sophia. Hope all of you are doing well, dear friend! May God bless and keep you!

    1. Maples are one of my favorite trees too!

Oh deeeear, I’m glad I live in a four-season state. Yikes! Hopefully the weather will cool down soon.

Me too! Yes, I’m thinking I’ll make a wreath with them for my front door this year. I am also looking forward to posting more baby pictures in the future. 🙂 We are doing splendidly, thank God. Praying for you and your family!
