Flashbacks + Christmasy Photos

Hej! 😀 (That’s hello in Swedish. Just wanted to make sure you’re alive and watching for typos.)

Ahem.

On my survey, one of the post suggestions was flashbacks, and I thought that would be a good idea. I’ve gotten so many new followers lately who have missed out on all of the wonderful, long-ago posts I did. Heh heh. XD

Anyway, since I can’t hardly bring myself to post just a page full of links, I sprinkled in some Christmas photos for good measure. Warning: do not judge my photography by these photos. XD Hee hee, some of them aren’t the best quality, but I think they’re neat anyway. 😉 Maybe next year I will have some stunning Christmas tree photography to show you, because by then I’m sure I’ll be an expert at my camera. 😛

We got our Christmas tree last Saturday! It took us forever, and the one we decided on was rather smaller than usual, but it was fun nonetheless. 🙂 Plus it looks pretty cute in our living room.

I really like this photoshoot I did last year. Click here to see some warm and summery pictures from a May walk.

dsc_0238-1280x853
I absolutely LOVE the bokeh in this picture, even though the picture itself isn’t that great of quality. :/

Ah yes, good ol’ Chopped. We still play this game sometimes. Click here to read “Chopped!”, a fun cooking game for kids. Let me tell you, sometimes the cooks’ entries are rather… how shall we say it… interesting. XD But fun. Always fun.

I’m still proud of this post. I just love how the pictures turned out! Click here to see “The Beauty of a Dandelion.”

Our friends gave us this adorable acorn ornament.

I love this place! Click here to read about one of my favorite places on our farm.

We made these fun button ornaments one year. For some reason I really like buttons. XD

I remember when we found this! It was pretty amazing to find a real bee tree. Click here to see a few pictures of a bee tree we found last year.

Christmas trees just wouldn’t be Christmas trees without lights, right?

SQUEEE! Lily was so TINY! Click here to read about my bunny Lily when she was just a wee fluff.

Another handmade ornament…

It was amazing to get to see this little guy turn into a chrysalis before our eyes. Click here to watch a swallowtail caterpillar transform.

Now this one is NOT handmade. XD

This was fun! Click here to read about “The Great Hot Air Balloon Chase.”

More bokeh!

Ooh, I should make one of these again. Click here to see how to make a creative, personalized card.

We find so many weird eggs in our chicken houses. Click here to read about some of them. (By the way, that reminds me of a thing I saw a thing on Pinterest about a farmer finding a whole egg inside of an egg. Pshaw, we’ve found a bunch of those. XD )

SO SQUISHY! Click here to see a little photoshoot of a bear I made for a friend.

Maybe it’s playing “Joy to the World…”

And last but not least, a review of 2015 with LOTS of photos included. I’m planning on making a post like this for 2016 too. If I thought last year was a big year, what about this year?! This year was huge! Anyway, click here to see read a review of 2015. (Guys, it’s almost 2017 already. WUT?!)

I hope you enjoyed this post, and had fun browsing through the links. 🙂 Do you get a Christmas tree? Do you cut your own, buy one from a store, or set up an artificial tree? We always cut ours down from a tree farm. *Happy sigh* So fun! 😀

P. S. I just discovered that a.) the little twisty thing on my camera is a focus ring, and b.) IT WORKS! My old camera didn’t have  a focus ring, and at first I was kind of disappointed that my new one didn’t seem to be focusing very well. Oops. Heh heh. Nowwwww, I get it. XD

Black Friday Surprises!

Guys, (or rather girls) I super excited to show you the things I bought for Black Friday! We went shopping late Thursday night and a little bit on Black Friday too. Did you go Black Friday shopping? Anyway, let me show you my goodies. 🙂

camera

A cute backpack, a beautiful ESV Study Bible, and… (wait for it) a new camera! 😀 😀 😀 Woohoo!

The backpack: My old backpack has seen its better days, so I was really happy to find this pretty one at JCPenny. (And if you’re wondering why I need a backpack when I’m homeschooled – I use it to hold my co-op things. 😉 )

camera-2
Yuck. Not a very good picture.

dsc_0181-1280x853

The Bible: Family Christian Bookstores had a 50% discount off of the whole line of ESV Study Bibles! My old Bible barely had any notes, so I really wanted a Study Bible. And I love this one! It’s beautiful and has lots of footnotes and cross-references and even a few illustrations. (Why why why didn’t I get any pictures of the inside? *facepalm*)

camera-5

The cover is imprinted with swirly ivy designs that were quite fun to photograph…

And the camera! I’m really excited because it’s my first dSLR camera. 😀 It’s a Nikon d3400, and it came with two lenses – a standard lens and a zoom lens (I think). I might do a review of it later, but for now I’m still learning how to use it. 😉 There are several things I miss about my old camera (mostly ease-of-use), but I do like how this one has manual aperture and shutter speed options! I can’t wait to take some softened photos of a waterfall.

For the rest of the post I’m going to dump heaps and heaps of experimental photos on you, so take a deep breath and do some scrolling-finger exercises before we begin. XD

I don’t know if it was the camera or what, but Lily was super scared when I took this picture. She was racing around like crazy!

This photo looks dSLR-ish, doesn’t it? I love how the top is in focus and the bottom is blurred. That’s my favorite. 😀 *Happy sigh*

SUPER CREEPY PHOTO OF OLAF ALERT! She has some serious red eye (perhaps because her eyes are already pinkish-red XD). Yikes. That really is quite creepy. XD

dsc_0133-1280x853
Aww, Liliputian again! I’m pretty pleased that this photo turned out pretty well even though I used flash. My old camera did’t take very good pictures with flash.

Oh my. That was a LOT of photos, wasn’t it? Yikes. Hee hee, I hope you enjoyed this post in spite of (or because of) that!

P. S. I always think of so many things to write for P. S.’s, but when it comes time to actually write them I can never remember what I was thinking… 😦 XD

Photography Prompt #3

This photography prompt was so much fun to do! I hope you guys like it as much as I did. :)Here’s the photography prompt:

P. S. For those of you who wanted to see the pictures Megan took of me on this photoshoot, click here! She just made a post about them. 🙂

P. P. S. GUYS! I got something on Black Friday that I can’t WAIT to show you! It’s supposed to come tomorrow or Monday! Squeeeee!

Random Photography + Some Sad News :(

Hey, guys. I was going to post about that mysterious thing I’ve been hinting at, but unfortunately I can’t really anymore. You see, what I was going to post was that Willow had baby bunnies! But… *SNIIIIIFFF* they aren’t alive anymore. 😦 😦 😦 😦 😦 They were doing just fine even though it was quite chilly, but I think the really windy day we had today was just too much for them. *Cries* Here is one picture to remember them by:

004
This is a picture of one the day it was born (I think). There were five all black babies.

 *Sigh*
Okay, now that’s over with. 😦 Let’s move on to happier subjects, right? I’ve collected several random photographs from my extensive collection.

Let’s start with some cuteness to cheer us up, shall we?

allisonsunset-schoolroom-012-1280x960
Aww! Look at these two wittle cuties!

It’s always fun to find a litter of barn kittens. 🙂 (You can tell this was a while ago by Megan’s shortsleeves. XD )

Art Lab, Episode 16

Methinks it’s past time for another Art Lab episode, don’t you agree? Quite, quite. 😀

Well, today I have a fun “two-player” art prompt for you to do with a friend or a pen-pal (or of course you could draw the whole thing by yourself).

Art Prompt: Here’s a mandala I really like.

Henna on Canvas by KeepAustinDreaming on Etsy, $40.00:

{from this Etsy shop}

And here is a bunch of inspiration for mandala-type doodles:

50 Hand Drawn Vector Pattern Brushes - Brushes Illustrator:

{via}

Technique: Two-Player Mandala

My pen-pal Grace and I made this mandala together. We took turns adding a section each time we sent our letters until it turned out like this! Isn’t it pretty? 😀pen-pal-mandala-poster

Mandalas don’t have many rules. The basic idea is to create a symmetrical,  circular design by adding consecutive rings of doodles. It’s fun to play with the position of the mandala – you can have it in the center of the page, running off the page, or in the corner, which is what Grace and I did. This is how the mandala looked from start to finish:

pen-pal-mandala

Wow. I realized this post is really short. XD Heh heh, oh well! I hope you enjoyed it, short though it may be! If you made some art inspired by this post, we’d love to see it! Visit this page to see how to help fill our art gallery.

Do you like doodling mandalas? Do you have a pen-pal?

Last Drops of Gold

*Sniff* Fall is almost over. 😦 All our trees have lost their leaves except for a few brave maples. My favorite of those is almost a neon yellow! So pretty! Of course I couldn’t resist taking pictures – and then showing them to you. 😉

I hope these leaves brought some sunshine into your day! 😀 Which picture was your favorite?

***Allison***

P. S. I have some very exciting news I think you guys will like, but I have to collect a few more pictures of it before posting. 😀 Hee hee, aren’t I mysterious? Do you have any guesses? (But if you already know what it is (ahem, Megan, Clara, and Grace), don’t give it away por favor. 😉 )

What a Super Moon!

I’m SUPER excited to show you some pictures I got of the SUPER SUPERMOON! 😀 Heh heh. But yes, I can’t wait for you to see them! I guess it would help if I stopped talking and showed you the pictures…

These first two are rather bad quality, but still neat because they show the size of the supermoon. (Well actually it didn’t look quite that big in real life – but pretty sizable! 🙂 )

supermoon-2-1280x960

I had a lot of fun playing around with silhouettes. They turned out pretty neat, if I do say so myself! XD

allisonsupermoon-021-1280x960

And of course I took a few plain moon pictures.

Did you have a favorite picture or did they all just look the same? XD Did you see the supermoon? Wasn’t it BEAUTIFUL?! Did you get pictures?

I hope you enjoyed this post!

P. S. I braved a cold night and the frustration of a tripod to take this pictures… all for you. Well actually, no, it was mostly for me. XD

Bunny Swap

I have some adorable news for you…

We got a new bunny! 😀 And we sold another bunny, which I realized I had never even posted about. O.o First, the “old” bunny. We got Pippin on the day we found Willow’s babies, so I guess he was kind of overshadowed in all the excitement, poor thing. He is a New Zealand/Silver Fox mix, and we got him to breed with Diamond, Lily, and Olaf (yes, Olaf is a girl XD ).

Sorry Pippin, I didn’t take many pictures of you. :/

dscn9182

dscn9183

I love this picture of his eye! You can see the reflection so clearly!

dscn9191

He loves to poke his nose into Snickers’ cage. XD

allisonart-bunnies-083-1280x960

So why did we sell him? Well I didn’t think we needed him in the first place because we couldn’t sell his babies for as much money as we could with Snickers and Willow. But Megan and my brother Jeff both really wanted to get him, so we did. 😉 Once we got Snickers, we decided to sell him to help pay for Snickers – and also because that would be too many bunnies to keep at once!

Why did we get Snickers? Some of you know that he used to be my friend Mallory’s bunny, but she decided to sell him since she didn’t play with him much anymore. 😦 We bought him to breed with Willow because that was quite a success last time, and also possibly to breed with Clemmie. And also because he is ADORABLE! See what I mean?

allisonart-bunnies-058-1280x960allisonart-bunnies-061-1280x960allisonart-bunnies-062-1280x960

So squishy! 😀 Is your cuteness meter filled yet?

*Happy sigh* I love bunnies. ♥

***Allison***

P. S. Speaking of bunnies, did you know that Clemmie hurt her eye? One of the bunnies (we don’t know which one) bit her close to her eye, and now she probably won’t be able to see out of it anymore. *SNIFF* Poor Clemmie. 😦

P. P. S. On a happier note, Rebekah wrote an amazing chapter for WordCrafters! You can read it on the WordCrafters 2 page here. The story is getting so exciting!

The Dust Pixies, Part 7

(Read the previous chapters here.) It’s been waaaay too long since I wrote a chapter for The Dust Pixies. Good gracious, it’s been more than a month! So are you ready to see what happens to Finn?

Here’s a little refresher since I posted the last part so long ago:

She had found Finn. He was bound to a tree, eyes closed in despair and exhaustion. He opened them when he heard his wife’s cry, but immediately shook his head and motioned us to stay away.

But he was too late.

_______________________________________

The leaves above him came alive. Dozens of grim-faced fairies dropped out of the tree and in a split second we were surrounded. I gulped. Lyri squeezed my hand tightly. One of the fairies stepped towards Anabelle. He looked like the night: black hair, dark skin, snapping chocolate brown eyes, and teeth that sparkled like stars when he spoke.

“Oh goody. Just who we were looking for. My my, you don’t seem to be any the worse for wear from living inside. Just as beautiful as ever, my dear girl. But come now, your father misses you. He hasn’t seen your charming face in far too long because of this – this miserable house-dweller.” His black-velvet eyes narrowed in disgust as he spat the last few words. “You must come with us, back to your rightful place as Princess of the fairies.” He bowed low.

Anabelle’s looked just as frightened as we were. “I can’t go with you, Reuven,” she whispered. “You know that I can’t leave him now. I don’t want to come back… and… and… It’s not true. Father doesn’t miss me. I know he doesn’t.” She hid her face in her hands. “He could never love a traitor.”

Rueven patted Anabelle’s shoulder awkwardly. “Nonsense, my dear. Of course he loves you! Your father will forgive you everything as long as you come with us. But if you don’t… well, if you don’t, your dusty friend here will have to be disposed of.” He sneered at Finn. “So what do you say, Anabelle? The choice is yours.”

Anabelle’s shoulders drooped. She glanced toward Finn who was emphatically shaking his head. He would pay the price, his eyes told her. He would make the sacrifice. But Anabelle smiled sadly and shook her head back. She straightened and spoke firmly. “Let my husband go and I will return with you.”

Reuven nodded his approval. “That’s the spirit. I knew you had a wise mind to go with that lovely face.” He winked at her and broke into a gleaming smile. The other fairies untied Finn in disappointment, muttering insults, and made their way over to Anabelle.

Reuven finally glanced down at us, surprised, as if he noticed our dusty selves before. “And who are these young friends?” He asked in an oily voice. “I see you have followed the path of the traitor like both of these noble heroes?” He laughed. “Ah, well. Scurry on home, kiddies. You wouldn’t want to cause any trouble, now would you?” His mouth smiled but his eyes were menacing.

At this we all quickly stepped back. We watched in shock as they took Anabelle away. But for some reason a few of the party stayed behind, milling around beside Finn. Finally, when Anabelle was out of sight they jumped upon him and tied him up again, laughing and jeering all the time.

My heart stopped. Wait! This wasn’t right! They were supposed to let Finn go! I almost rushed out into the ring, but I decided against it. What good could one lone dust pixie do? As we looked on with sinking hearts, the fairies prodded Finn into the forest, step by painful step. Lyri was in tears beside me.

“We have to do something, Mae,” she whispered fearfully.

“I know. I know.” I stood there quietly, thinking, until I was startled by the sound of footsteps. Were the fairies coming to get us too? But before I had time to run, a face appeared.

It was as black as the night.

For a second I thought Reuven had come back, but I noticed that this was a boy, not a man.

“Hey,” he whispered hoarsely. His eyes were wide and filled with fear. “I’m on your side, okay? They’re takin’ him – Finn, I mean – back to camp. You gotta save him! I don’t know what they’re gonna do to him, but I can tell you sure, it ain’t gonna be good. I don’t dare free him myself – do you have any idea what my Dad would do to me? It’s gotta be you! Please…” The boy’s face was earnest. “I can’t stand to see innocent people get hurt – even if he is a dust pixie. All you have to do is follow the trail of scuffed-up leaves. It’ll lead you right to camp. Come on, guys, whadya say?” His wide eyes gazed at us pleadingly.

“Uh… yeah. We-we were just going to work up a p-plan,” I stammered. “Don’t worry, we’ll do it. Th-thanks for warning us. Yeah, we’ll save him.”

The boy looked relieved. “Oh boy, that’s great. Well, you gotta be quick – they’re gonna do the judgement call tomorrow morning.” He turned to leave, but shouted over his shoulder, “Oh, and my name’s Eli. Bye.”

I heaved a giant sigh. This was bad. This was too big for four dust pixies to handle by themselves. We needed help. We needed Rosalind.

Ooohh, the plot gets thicker yet! XD Thanks for reading, dear friends. 🙂
