2015, Award, News + Lots of Photos!

Happy New Year! Okay, get ready for a long post, because today I will be reviewing my 2015 bloggy year, doing an award, and telling you one of my New Year’s resolutions. Ready? First up, my blog year – it was a great year, and a HUGE year, at least compared to last year. Taking into account the fact that I only blogged 7 months last year instead of 12 this year, still, the stats increased A LOT. And thanks to all of you, I now have almost 60 followers! SQUEEEE! 😀 😀 Here are the yearly stats for this year and last year:

And here is the little WordPress year in review thingy they sent me:

Here’s an excerpt:

A San Francisco cable car holds 60 people. This blog was viewed about 3,500 times in 2015. If it were a cable car, it would take about 58 trips to carry that many people.

Now for the award. I don’t usually do awards, but I decided to do this one because it wasn’t just random questions, and I thought it was interesting to see when other people did this. So… I was nominated by Genna and Mercer Creative. Thank you so much!

Yep. Well, my sister and mom helped me.

It was kind of hard to choose just 3 of my favorites, so since it’s a review of 2015 anyway, I’m just going to do some of my favorite photo pictures and posts from 2015. XD

I think one of my all time favorite posts was this dandelion post. Here’s a picture from it:

Whew! That was a lot of pictures! I nominate Hayley from Flourishing By Restful Falls for the award.

OK. Now for one of my New Years’ Resolution (the news part of the title). I want to start an Etsy shop! I’m going to be selling things I make online there, including polymer clay animals and other polymer clay things, and maybe stuffed animals like this one. But I need more ideas! I would greatly appreciate any suggestions with what you would like me to make that you would buy. If you need some ideas from what I’ve already made, click on the category “My Creations” on my category cloud on my blog sidebar. Thank you!

So, that’s it! Thanks so much for a great bloggy year, readers!

P. S. See you next year!

Christmas Gifts by Yours Truly

I hope you had a Merry Christmas – I did! I always make my Christmas gifts because I love to make and give things. This year I made this candy bark for my dad and my aunt and uncle’s family, lots of mix-and-match paper flags for a pennant banner like this one for my mom, a cross-stitch picture of their grandkids (including me) for my grandmother and grandaddy, and a clay model of each of my brothers’ and sisters’ bunnies for their presents (along with some sugared pecans.) Whew! That was a long list, huh? I really enjoyed making those presents, but I only took pictures of the cross-stitch piece and the bunnies to show you.

First, the cross-stitch thingy. My grandparents really liked it, which I am glad about, because it took me a really long time to make! I first planned my design out on graph paper, and then embroidered it. From left to right: my brother Jeff, Me, my cousin Leisha, my sister Carmen, my brother Logan, my cousin Jianna, and my sister Megan. I worked really hard on this and I’m quite pleased at how well it turned out!

All my siblings really liked these little bunnies too. They are cute if I say so myself. 🙂 In the picture of all of the bunnies in my hand, they are from left to right: Clementine, Yoshi, Olaf, and Diamond. Which is your favorite clay rabbit?

This is Yoshi and Clementine together, because Clemmie is a soon-to-be mother (we hope!) and Yoshi is the dad. (!!!)

I hope you enjoyed looking at my creations! Did you make any presents this year?

Merry Christmas from the Bunnies!

Squeeee! Christmas is only two days away! I hope you enjoy this “bloggy Christmas card” post from me and the bunnies!

Bunny Christmas

The bunnies are so cute I can hardly stand it. 🙂 Just yesterday I was in Clementine’s pen (she’s by herself because she’s going to be a mother soon (!!!) ), and I heard some scrabbling coming from behind me. I turned around and saw Willow, my rabbit, balancing on the narrow wall separating the two stalls! She had jumped up all by herself, and it was ADORABLE!

(Whenever there’s a collage like this, you can click on each picture to see it bigger.) Look at Clemmie in the second picture at the top right corner – so cute!

MERRY CHRISTMAS to you, and don’t forget the “Christ” part of Christmas.” 🙂 See you later!

Sugar Cookie Masterpieces

We recently made cookies with our friends, and I was on the sugar cookie team. They were so much fun to decorate! So fun that I spent quite a long time decorating my 12 cookies – about two hours in fact. Heh heh. 🙂 But it was really fun, trust me! Of course, I couldn’t let those pretty cookies disappear down peoples’ throats without saving the results of all my labor in picture form. So here they are – my sugary works of art. Warning: you may be hungry for cookies after this! And another note while I’m at it. The “Merry Christmas” cookie was drawn in edible markers, just in case you were wondering. 🙂

-Allison(cookies, island) 039 (1280x960)

(Click on the individual images below to make them bigger.)

I learned how to frost this mitten cookie↓ from the American Girl magazine. It’s a really fun technique that looks really pretty. Basically you frost the cookie in one color, add stripes of icing in another color, and drag a toothpick through the stripes in the opposite direction the stripes go. (Like if the stripes are horizontal, drag your toothpick vertically up and down the cookie.)

-Allison(cookies, island) 038 (1280x960)

One random note: does it bother anyone else when “cookie” is spelled “cooky,” like in old books?

Ahem. Did you decorate or bake any Christmas goodies yet this year? Christmas certainly a delicious time of year, isn’t it? And Christmas is only four days away! I just told you that in case, for some really strange reason, you haven’t already told yourself a million times today.

Before Christmas I’m going to do a post with really cute pictures involving bunnies and Christmas. I can’t wait to show it to you! Until then…

Mission Christmas Tree

We got our Christmas tree yesterday! We always go to a Christmas tree farm and cut our Christmas tree down with a saw, so this post is for you poor unfortunates who don’t or can’t have that experience. *Wink* @ Loren and Mallory. 🙂 (Oh, by the way, I was going to tell you before. Mallory is my friend, and she just recently started a blog where her bunny, Snickers, “posts” about his life. It’s very cute – you should check it out! Just click Mallory’s name above.) OK, down to business!

************************************************

We don’t always go to the same tree farm every year, but this year we went to a big Christmas tree place called “Evergreen Christmas Tree Farm.” (I know, very original name, right? ☺) They have quite a large amount of space to wander through, and several different varieties of trees to choose from, including Colorado Spruce, White Pine, and Concolor Fir.

I think we got a Colorado Spruce (though I’m not sure), but the Concolor Firs are really neat because if you rub their needles between your fingers, they smell like citrus!

First, my brother picked up a handsaw from one of the saw-poles scattered around the farm. Then we began the search for the perfect Christmas tree! We trekked all over the farm, winding in and out of big trees and small trees; young trees and old trees; trees with long, soft needles, and trees with short, prickly ones. We went up and down the hills and along lots of paths. Finally, we ended up where we had started. At last, in a corner of the tree farm, we found our tree!

The tree was a little too tall, so we cut part of the bottom off. The nice thing is, my mom and dad can kind of measure how tall the tree should be – if it reaches the top of their hands when they stretch their arms out, it’s a good size. (My parents are both pretty tall.) The kids like to yell “TIMBER!” when we cut down the tree.

-Allison(Christmas tree and bunnies) 031 (1280x960)

And now we had to drag the tree all the way down the hill to the “packaging” center. The kids started by taking turns, and my dad finished when we got tired. 😀

-Allison(Christmas tree and bunnies) 034 (1280x960)

The people at the bottom of the farm set your tree in a stand and turn on a machine that vibrates the tree to shake all of the dirt and dust on it. As you can see, our tree was pretty dusty from dragging it down the hill!

-Allison(Christmas tree and bunnies) 035 (1280x960)

The next part is really fun to watch. The people working at the farm take the freshly-cleaned tree and set it on a sort of conveyor belt thingy. They attach some sort of hook to the trunk, and p – u  – l  – l the tree through a hoop with net in it. The tree gets all wrapped up in the net. It looks like a cocoon or something!

-Allison(Christmas tree and bunnies) 036 (1280x960)

The purpose of wrapping the Christmas tree is to make it easier to carry on your car or truck. Dad strapped the tree to the top of our car, and off we drove!

-Allison(Christmas tree and bunnies) 037 (1280x960)

At home we set the Christmas tree in it’s stand, watered it (with just plain water), and adjusted the screws in the stand so that the tree stood up as straight as possible. Then came another fun part that all of us kids love – cutting off the netting! We each took a pair of scissors and snipped off every last bit. It’s fun to watch the tree unfold from its bonds. 🙂

Then we put on Christmas music and started decorating! I love the decorating part. (As you have probably noticed, I love pretty much everything about getting a Christmas tree!)

First we put the lights and star on, then my mom carefully put the glass balls on, then everyone could help with the rest of the ornaments. Finally the tree was chock full of decorations, and we could sit back and look at our work. So pretty!

-Allison(Christmas tree and bunnies) 044 (1280x960)

Here are some more pictures of the ornaments that I took in the dark. They remind me of a Christmas I Spy Book.

-Allison(Christmas tree and bunnies) 048 (1280x960)-Allison(Christmas tree and bunnies) 045 (1280x960)

And here is one where I moved my camera around while holding down the shutter button.

-Allison(Christmas tree and bunnies) 046 (1280x960)

Did you get your Christmas tree yet? When? Do you get artificial or real trees? Have you ever gone to a Christmas tree farm?

Labor Day Celebrations

For Labor Day this year, my family, my grandparents, and my cousins got together and made potato chips and funnel cakes. Boy, were they delicious! We fried them both in a rather rusty contraption that worked quite well none the less. (Don’t worry, my grandaddy cleaned the inside of the kettle quite thoroughly.)

-Allison(Willow on the deck, Labor Day) 010

The oil in the kettle had beautiful reflections in it of the trees above.

-Allison(Willow on the deck, Labor Day) 013-Allison(Willow on the deck, Labor Day) 014First we made potato chips.  They were deliciously light and crispy.

-Allison(Willow on the deck, Labor Day) 021 -Allison(Willow on the deck, Labor Day) 022

Next we fried funnel cakes. It took a bit of experimenting to get the batter the right consistency, but boy were they delicious! Here is a link to the recipe we used. At first the batter was too thick, but it made some quite interesting shapes.

Finally we got the batter the right consistency.  Are you hungry yet?

-Allison(Willow on the deck, Labor Day) 034 -Allison(Willow on the deck, Labor Day) 035

We had lots of extra batter left, which made some tasty, very smooth waffles, although they were a little tougher than normal.

What did you do for Labor Day?

Won’t it be nice when spring comes and there are warm days where you can go outside without a coat on?!  Our thermometer says 8 degrees (Fahrenheit) right now!!!!!  It’s definitely still winter here!

Fireworks!

We saw the fireworks at Massanutten recently, and I took some pictures while we were watching (of course :))2014-7-5-Allison (Fireworks) 0332014-7-5-Allison (Fireworks) 0372014-7-5-Allison (Fireworks) 0412014-7-5-Allison (Fireworks) 015  I discovered that if I waved my camera around while I took a picture, I ended up with these neat light streaks.2014-7-5-Allison (Fireworks) 0312014-7-5-Allison (Fireworks) 0242014-7-5-Allison (Fireworks) 025

It worked the same way when we waved around glow sticks.

2014-7-5-Allison (Fireworks) 008This will probably be the last post for about a week because we’re going on a trip to Rhode Island -tomorrow! (YAY!)

Bye for now,
