Hello, dears!
Today’s post is going to be sort of an odd mix of photos which were taken on the same two evenings, so I decided to lump them together. 🙂 My family and I were mulching our flowerbeds about a month ago, and it happened to be during my favorite time to photograph, a.k.a. the golden hour. Knowing me, you’ll not be surprised that I couldn’t resist photographing many things (including pet donkeys, magnolia trees, and random weeds) in the golden light. 😉 Enjoy browsing through this summer evening!
While I waited for everyone to come outside and begin mulching, I took some close-ups of this thistle-like flower in the wheat field.
Guess what? I saw this exact flower blooming on the edge of the road as we drove down our lane one day, and made a mental note to come back and photograph it later. :’D I remembered!
Isn’t the intricacy and perfection of this plant incredible?? God’s design is so evident even in the tiny details of our world.
I edited this one, obviously, but I really liked the way the wheat looks with this toned-down filter. 🙂
Finally we were ready to mulch. Mulching isn’t my favorite job because it’s rather time-consuming and painstaking, but it does yield a most satisfying result. Just look at the difference!
I’m not going to post many actual mulching picture because, well, they aren’t that interesting. XD Let’s move on to some photos I took of the magnolia tree in front of our house.
I looove the contrast of the shiny, deep green leaves with the creamy white magnolia blooms.
Such simple flowers, but such beautiful ones!
Aww look at that cute little seed pod. Or whatever it’s called. These “ripen” to a large, brown pod covered in brilliant red seeds later in the year.
It took a while to find the perfect angle where the sun shone through a hole in this leaf. 😀 But I love the result!
Carmen climbed the tree and wanted me to take a picture of her, so… I tried. It was hard to see her through the thick foliage. XD
Megan brought out her pet donkey, Eeyore, to “help” us finish up the mulching on the second evening. 😉
Isn’t she adorable in her blue halter? (Yep, Eeyore is a female, despite her name. 😉 )
Megan fastened her to the telehandler while we got the rest of the mulch from the bucket, and Carmen tried to calm her down because Eeyore was NOT happy about being tied. 😛
She was greatly annoyed with us, in fact.
GREATLY annoyed. :’D Ha ha, this picture… (Please excuse the orange blurs near the top – I was trying to shade my lens but, heh, my fingers got in the way.)
(MOVE, fingers!) Eeyore contained herself for a little while until she got too rambunctious and Megan had to take her back. But we were pretty much finished by then anyway.
We’ll end this post with a couple of sky pictures. The clouds were super neat that day – al bunched and bumpy like the texture of sheep’s wool.
I edited this one a good bit to accentuate the moon and airplane. I think it turned out pretty neat!

EEEYYYYOOORRREEEE! I want a donkey. 🙂 Ooh, also a shading lens trick! It helps if YOU stand in the shade, since other things like trees create shade and…shade the lens. Ooh, neat airplane picture! I’m not crazy about magnolia trees, but I liked your pictures. 🙂

I love the perspective of Carmen in the Tree! Some of my favorite photography and cinematography is when the audience is looking through or around something. Gives a “I’m there” feel.

Lovely pictures! I like the warm, golden lighting in the photos, and that picture of the clouds in the sky is very cool. I think my favorite photo is the one of the aesthetic-looking wheat. It has a monochromatic appearance, and I really like the tones.
I wouldn’t say that I have a lot of experience with mulching, but recently I have begun to really like working in the garden or outside in the yard. I enjoy collecting grass clippings to put around the garden plants, and I’m really excited to start a lasagna garden next year (a lasagna garden is where you layer different types of organic matter (wood chips, compost, manure, straw, etc) on top of the soil, and then plant seeds in that rich environment. I’m planning for it now, which is fun, in a way.
