Bee Tree

So from the poll results in my last post, I should either keep doing my blog the same or do more crafts.  Unfortunately, no craft tutorials can be found currently in my brain, so I’ll stick with “keep doing it how you are” for this post. 🙂  Which means… you get to see pictures of a bee tree!  I was so excited when we saw this fallen tree in a woods on our farm with bees swarming around it – and honeycomb inside!  Here she is!

Guess What? (And a Poll)

I got a new bunny!  I still have Honeybunny, but she is not very nice to hold or cuddle with, (sorry Honeybunny!) so I got another bunny to be a better pet.  Thank you Grammy and Granddaddy for giving me the money to buy her with for my birthday!

My sister had just bought a rabbit after her rabbit Rutabaga died, :(, and I bought the sister bunny of Megan’s bunny.

-Allison(walk, arboretum, Lily) 070

Lily is a red New Zealand rabbit with caramel-colored fur and big dark eyes.  She is absolutely adorable, and very sweet.  She is much nicer to hold and cuddle with than Honeybunny, and her fur is very soft.  Lily’s sister, Mango (Megan’s new bunny) is a lot bigger than her, even though they are sisters.  This is Megan’s bunny Mango:

And this is my bunny Lily:

P.S – I have so many pictures and photo-shoots I want to show you, but that can sometimes get tiring.  You can vote on what kind of posts you would like me to do more of below.

Spring Birdies

My dad called and told us there were some baby killdeer for us to see.  I brought my camera, of course, and took some pictures.  My sister and I even got to hold one of the fluffy little babies.  So cute!

Here is the mother killdeer with her baby:

And here is the baby up close.

I also got pictures of a robin eating a worm!

Creation Museum!

We went to the Creation Museum in Cincinnati, Kentucky for a few days with some of our friends, and it was AMAZING!  I highly recommend it!  There are so many neat things to discover inside the museum, and they have a beautiful outdoor space, and a petting zoo – and not just your ordinary petting zoo!

First you come into a tall hall with Chinese dragons hanging from the ceiling and dragon information and legends along the walls.  When you come into the actual museum you see this huge mastodon skeleton and then this habitat with moving dinosaurs and life-like people.    Then you can go down this alley or tunnel or something which kind of goes through the museum and shows you lots of different things along the way.  There’s a life-like dig-site where you can touch a real dinosaur bone,

-Allison (Creation Museum) 030

and see a dinosaur skeleton!

There were several movie theater stops along the way, and the Garden of Eden which I really liked. (I mean, who knew you could still go see it, right?!).

-Allison (Creation Museum) 031 -Allison (Creation Museum) 036 -Allison (Creation Museum) 034 -Allison (Creation Museum) 033

There’s a cross-section of the Ark with life-like people that talk and move.  This is a picture of a fake person that was in the display.  I mean, look how real she looks!

-Allison (Creation Museum) 150

There’s a neat room with small models of the Ark and what it could have looked like inside and out.  It was really funny because we saw a stinkbug crawling around on the miniature people inside the display case!

Later on the trail we went to this amazing Insectorium that had lots of insects in glass display cases.  My finger in some of the pictures shows how big the insects are.

Later on we went outside.  There are lots of pretty waterfalls and bridges, and a petting zoo!  This petting zoo had a zorse (zebra and horse mixed), a zonkey (can you guess?), wallabies (which we didn’t get to pet – one was too busy eating a Christmas tree that was in the cage!), peacocks, and other animals.

This is definitely not all we saw, but it would take too long to tell you everything!  For more information, visit the Creation Museum’s site here.

Tidbits

I have lots of little things to post about, so I thought I’d just post them all together.  Here goes!

*************************************************************                                                                                             Sunset

Several days ago we saw this GORGEOUS sunset.  I seriously think this was the prettiest sunset I have ever seen.  The colors were so bright, and the clouds were all swirly.

-Allison(sunset) 005

Isn’t it gorgeous?!

-Allison(sunset) 003                                                                                              Scents

If you haven’t tried this, you should!  Put orange or clementine peels in a small pot.  Put some water in the pot, and add some cinnamon and whole cloves.  This makes your house smell amazing! -Allison(sunset) 024                                                                                         Surprise!

This is a gross but true story: We got our Christmas tree a couple of days ago, and the kids insisted that we move the furniture so we could put the Christmas tree in its customary spot by the window.  Since we moved the couch, we had to sweep all the dust up. My brother was trying to vacuum up a dust bunny, but it wasn’t going too well.  You’ll never guess why.  Do you give up? Ok: it didn’t sweep up well because it wasn’t dust at all – it was a dead frog!!  Yep, a really-truly dead frog.  Actually, it was more like a petrified frog chip, it was so dry and hard.  Why this is so funny is because that frog was the one that had hopped out of its cage months before, and we never knew what happened to it.  We thought maybe the cat got it, but nope!  My mom said that maybe the dead frog was what we had been smelling a while ago.  Gross!!

Oh, and one other little thing: Complete-the-Set game

This is just a little game I made up that’s fun to play while traveling or waiting for something.

1.  Choose one person to be “it” for the first round.

2.  The “it” person thinks of a set (primary colors, initials, etc.)

3.  “It” tells the other players all but one of the items in that set. (For example, if the set was “primary colors”, the “it” person could say “blue, red, and…”, or “red, yellow, and…”, but they couldn’t say “blue, red, yellow,” because there wouldn’t be any part of the set left to complete!)

4.  The other players take turns trying to complete the set.

5.  Whoever guesses correctly first gets to be the new “it”.

Have fun!

Happy Holidays!

Fall Walks

Here are some pictures from recent nature walks around our farm:

-Allison (walk, bluebirds) 010

I thought this mullein looked pretty with the dewdrops on it.

-Allison (walk, bluebirds) 004

We saw a lot of gorgeous bluebirds in one spot where we walked.  I ♥ bluebirds!

-Allison (walk, bluebirds) 005

This is sort of a random picture.-Allison (walk, bluebirds) 011A little brown moth sitting on a little brown leaf

Spider!

-Allison (walk, bluebirds) 038We also found some salamanders under logs and such in the woods.

-Allison (walk, bluebirds) 040Awww, isn’t he cute? (Sorry for the not-so-good picture, but I wanted you to see him☺)

-Allison (walk, bluebirds) 022

We also found good-smelling things, not just good-looking ones.  This is pineapple weed and it smells deliciously fruity.

-Allison (walk, bluebirds) 014

Does anyone know what this is called? I call it peppermint weed because it smells really minty!  I know it looks really ugly, but it smells sooo good.  I wish I could send you the smell!

-Allison (walk, bluebirds) 041

Fungus among us!-Allison (walk, bluebirds) 028I took this picture laying down in the woods with my camera pointing up.  I like the interesting angle on this one.

Which is your favorite picture?

Bunny Cuteness

I know, another bunny post –  but I can’t help it!  They’re too cute!

This is Rutabaga with her ears down.  Did you recognize her?

-Allison (grain bin jumping) 024

Do we have a walrus here?

Honeybunny doesn’t look too pleased.  (My sister took this picture.)

And last, but not least…

Eeeek! A Spider!

While I was sitting at the computer, I saw this spider.  He was actually pretty small, but I cropped the pictures so you can see all kinds of fascinating (and creepy!) details.

Look at his palpi (the little fuzzy feelers in front of his face)!

-spider 013 - Copy

And look at those eyes – creepy, huh?

-spider 014 - Copy

Do you see those little orange spots?

-spider 016

I hope you enjoyed looking at a spider for once!

P.S –  If anyone knows what kind of spider this is, I’d be glad to know!

Fall Is In The Air – And On The Ground!

Fall has arrived here at our house.  You can easily tell if you look at our gorgeous trees.  Like always, the pictures aren’t as good as the real thing, but they give you a pretty good taste of it.

-Allison(bunnies in the leaves) 067 -Allison(bunnies in the leaves) 045 003

There are a lot of fun things to do with fall: Make pretty leaf-and-acorn pictures or arrangements (inside or outside),

013 016 015 014

017

Make leaf piles (of course),

-Allison(bunnies in the leaves) 075

And let your bunnies play in the leaf piles.  This is my rabbit, Honeybunny.  She loved burrowing through the pile and hiding in the leaves.  Is she not ADORABLE?
