Q & A Part 4 – Finale!

q&a part 4

Phew, it’s been awhile since I posted one of these, but here it is! The last part of Q & A. (See the other parts here.) In case you’d forgotten, I did this Q&A post in celebration of the 100 followers milestone! Whoop whoop!😀 Oh wait – now I have 116 followers. WHOOP WHOOP!!😄 Thank you guys so much! You all asked so many lovely questions that I had to divide the answers into several parts. 😀 And… this is the last! (I’m going to add a few bonus Q & A’s of my own at the end. 😉 )

wizepuppy‘s (Suzy’s) Questions

  1. There is a grizzly bear running towards you, but your life long friend is hanging from a 100 foot cliff. What do you do? Let’s see. If the bear was running really fast, I would run straight toward the cliff, whip around at the last second so he would run over the edge, fly back to rescue my friend, and go home in triumph. Ha ha. No. I have a sneaking suspicion that I would be considerably less courageous than that. XD 😉 I would probably just scream and pray.
  2. Would you rather live in the time of the Great Depression or World War II? Hm… maybe the Great Depression. I don’t think I could survive living through a war like WW2. I’m reading Rilla of Ingleside (it’s really good, by the way!) which is set in the time of World War 1, and it really made me think about how horrible it would have been to live through a World War. You were always waiting breathlessly for the news, and the news often turned out to be terrifying. Every hour of the day would be filled with worry and suspense. And then if  your brother or husband or sweetheart went to war, how terrible that would be to wonder if he would ever return? It makes me so, so thankful that we are not at war.
  3.  What magical power would you want to possess most? I would like to FLY! The age old dream, my friends. 😉 Although it would be so fun to have the skills to make anything I imagined!
  4. Would you rather be the most famous or the richest person in the world? Probably neither. 🙂 But… hmm… maybe the richest? I could do all sorts of things with my money, including helping other people. If I was famous, I would only be, well, famous, and I’ll bet it would get annoying to have fans everywhere trying to get my autograph. XD XD 😀
  5. What would be your death wish? Definitely that I would soon be in Heaven. 🙂

buzzaboutag‘s (Rutvi’s) Questions:

  1. Do you have any siblings? If so, how many? Yep! I have four siblings. This is a list of the kids in our family from oldest to youngest. Me ( 😉 ), Logan (my oldest sibling and brother), Jefferson (my other brother whom we always call Jeff), Megan (my sister who also has a blog), and Carmen (my youngest sister and sibling.)
  2. Do you like pineapples? YES! I love pretty much any and all fruit, although apples and bananas aren’t my favorite because they’re pretty normal.

____________________________________________________________

  1. Favorite season? SPRING! I love spring, when the trees are iced with fluffy blossoms, the grass is getting greener, and new life is popping up all around me! Not to mention that my birthday’s in May. 🙂
  2. Favorite thing to photograph? Little things. Close-up photography is definitely my style. I love capturing the little things in life that we don’t normally notice, and bringing their beauty into the light. It’s like I discover a whole new world when I zoom in my camera lens!
  3. What was your first pet? The first pet that actually belonged to me was Honeybunny, my first rabbit. I posted about her surprisingly few times, poor thing. (Although this post has a few pictures of her in it.) You can see more pictures of her by typing “Honeybunny” in my blog’s search bar.
  4. How long has your family had bunnies for, and who was the first bunny to enter your household? **Edited to add** Oops! My sister reminded me that we actually had a (not so nice) bunny named Nibbles in 2011. He met with a tragic end when a cat got into his cage and ate off his head. 😦 XD XD It was so sad then, but now it’s just hilarious! XD We’ve had bunnies since August 2014. Click here to see a post about when we got them. (*Gasp* No one commented on that post until almost a year later! It’s amazing how much my blog has grown since then – if I published a post like that now and got no comments, I would probably faint or else be seriously concerned that you guys weren’t alive. XD Once again, thanks so much for your comments, guys!)
  5. What was the name of the last unicorn you met? Her name is Alice. (See her here.) And I saw her because… well because I made her. I know, you were expecting me to have met a real unicorn, weren’t you? *Sigh* I am so sorry that I let you down. XD

_________________________________________________________

And that’s all! I had so much fun answering your questions, guys! Thank you so much for asking them! And now I decided to ask myself a few questions, just because. 🙂

  1. Am I right-handed or left-handed? Right-handed.
  2. How tall am I? A little over 5′ 8.” Both of my parents are about 5′ 11.”. 😀
  3. What is my middle name? Marie. It’s my grandma’s middle name, and I really like it. 🙂

There we go! Feel free to answer one of these questions yourself in the comments!

Announcing… WordCrafters 2!!

WordCrafters 3 (1280x1280)

YESYESYESYESYESYES!! It’s time for WordCrafters again! I know lots of you have been looking forward to this, and so have I! I announced WordCrafters 1 all the way back in January, and the story turned out SO well, thanks to all you amazing writers! (Click here to read the story for WordCrafters 1.)

Okay, I’d better explain the rules in case some of you are like, “Say what now?”

WordCrafters is a sort of writing challenge I made up (and polished off with the help of the wonderful Josie – thanks so much, Été! 😉 ). The basic idea is this: Josie will start off the story by writing a chapter, and then we’ll hand it over to you. The WordCrafters participants take turns adding a chapter on to the story until we end up with one great big glorious story written by many different people! (Again, check out the first story for an example.)

Josie will post the first chapter on June 1. That leaves plenty of time to sign up!

Now here are the more in-depth rules. (Please read over these even if you’ve participated in an earlier WordCrafters, just to refresh your memory. 🙂 )

_______________________________________________

Sign-ups: You can sign up from today, April 9th – May 31st. Just comment beneath this post (or over at Josie’s blog) saying that you’d like to participate, and voila! You may enter even if you do not have a blog.

When is it my turn? After the sign-ups are closed, we’ll make a randomized list of all the participants. After Josie posts the start of the story,  the next person on the list will have their turn, and we’ll just keep going down the list.

What should I know about writing my chapter? You may optionally include an illustration or photograph of your own or from the web to illustrate your part of the story. Try to finish your part within 3-5 days, although I won’t chop your head off if you take longer. XD We just need to keep the story moving so the participants don’t have to wait so long for their turn. Don’t make it too long – around 750 words would be a good length. But again, I won’t chop off your head if you make your chapter 300 or 900 pages. XD It just really adds up when several people make a chapter each, and we don’t want people to have to wait months for their turn. Please make your story G-rated – no inappropriate language, over-much violence, etc. And another thing: Please use no dark magic. It’s okay to use fairy-tale magic, like going through a portal into another world, but many of the participants (and Josie and I) are not into dark magic or witchcraft. Thanks! 🙂

After I finish my story…? Both Josie and I will update a page on our blogs where you can read the story so far. After you finish your part of the story, just send Josie and me a link to your post, and we will add it to the WordCrafters page. If you do not have a blog, send us the story using our “Contact Me” pages. On that page you will also see a numbered list of the people who signed up so you can tell who goes after whom. Tag the person after you on the list by dropping them a comment on their blog to let them know it’s their turn. (For instance, if you are the 3rd person on the list, tag the 4th person to continue the story after you.) Oh, and one more thing: when you write your part of the story, you can put the WordCrafters button on your blog sidebar, if you like.

Characters: This time I got to make up the characters! I’m just going to give you a little hint of them now. I’ll explain them in much more detail when we’re about to start.

Esme, (girl) age 10

Vivi, (girl) age 13

Pippin, (boy) age 16

Oh yes. And don’t kill these characters in your story! XD Josie and I have big plans for them for WordCrafters 3, so we want them to be still alive and kicking by then! XD XD

___________________________________________________________

And I think that about wraps it up. Would you like that with flour or corn? (It’s a joke – get it? Would you like a flour or corn tortilla with your wrap? XD XD HAHAhahaha. Ha. Ahem. XD XD)

I’m so excited to do this again! (Have I said that before? XD ) If you have any questions, just ask. 🙂 And I’d love it if you spread the word to your blogger friends! 😀

Q & A: Part 3

q & a part 3jpg (1280x1280).jpg

Welcome back! It’s time for another round of Q&A with Allison. (See the other parts here.) In case you’d forgotten, I did this Q&A post in celebration of the 100 followers milestone! Woop woop! 😀 Oh wait – now I have 112 followers. WOOP WOOP!! XD Thank you guys so much! You all asked so many lovely questions that I had to divide the answers into several parts. 😀 So now, without further ado, I present Part 3!

___________________________________________________________

Michaila‘s Questions

1. Do you ever watch the news? If so, who do you want for future president? We hardly ever watch the news, but we do like to watch presidential debates! I’d definitely choose Ted Cruz out of the five remaining candidates. I think his policies are better than the other candidates (because he’s more conservative), and he seems to have a better character than… um, some other candidates. 😉
2. Ever worn bunny slippers?
Hmmm… I think I might have had bunny slippers when I was little, although I’m not sure. XD
3. What are your 5 favorite words?
I recently discovered that I like the word “allele” because it’s really fun to write in cursive. 😀 Look at all those loops! (I learned “allele” in Biology. 😉 It means “A different version of the same gene,” in case your biology was a little rusty. 😀 )

allele

I also like the word “humuhumunukunukuapua’a” which is the Hawaiian name for a reef triggerfish. XD XD Can you imagine saying, “Okay, Mom, I’m off to go humuhumunukunukuapua’a fishing.”? XD In school we also learned about an Egyptian pharaoh named “Apeppi.” I just love saying that – Apeppi Apeppi, Apeppi! XD XD “Onomatopoeia” is also really fun to say… Let’s see, what else? I like the word “luxurious” as in “luxurious green moss” or “luxuriously plush pillows.” Even the word “luxurious” sounds luxurious.

4. What are your 5 favorite Disney characters? I like Anna, Olaf, and Kristoff from Frozen, the Incredible family from The Incredibles, and… well that was already more than five characters, so I’ll stop. 🙂

______________________________________________________

Clara‘s Questions

1. What was the name of the last unicorn you met? Hee hee! I’ve already answered this in the first part, so you probably already read it, but the name of the last unicorn I met was “Alice.” 😀 (You can see pictures of Alice here.)
2. Worst thing you ever tasted? Hmm… I’m not sure. It likely had something to do with either spicy things or mushroom soup. I do not like spicy things or mushrooms (although they’re okay raw), and I really don’t like mushroom soup! (You know, the sauce in some casseroles.) But for the most part, I’m not a picky eater. 🙂
3. What do you spend most of your time doing in the summer?
Umm… I can hardly remember! Well, here are some of the things I do: read, work in the garden, help can and harvest vegetables, swim at our neighbor’s pool, take walks around our farm with my family, go fishing at my uncle’s pond, watch fireworks, go on vacation, go to the fair (and enter things in it), weed the flowerbeds, and feel hot. 🙂
4. Favorite school subject?
I started to list my favorite ones, but the list was turning out to be pretty much everything. XD The ones I like a lot are Spanish, Math, the reading part of Literature, History (especially because we’re learning about one of my favorite time periods – Ancient Egyptian history!), and Geography. My worst school subject might be writing essays. 😦 I have a hard time starting them up.
5. Dream job?
I’m already doing one of my dream jobs – selling things I create! (On my Etsy shop.) I’m having lots of fun with that. 🙂
6. Favorite cartoon?
Right now the only one I can think of is Tom and Jerry… They are funny, but maybe a little too predictable. 🙂
7. What exotic animal would you like to have as a pet? (Yes, unicorns count. 😉 ) If I wouldn’t have any trouble with where to put it and how to feed it, it would be fun to have a giraffe as a pet. And yes, a unicorn would be fun too. 😉

Abigail and Clara’s Questions (They’re my cousins, by the way. ♥♥)

1. When are you coming to Canada next?  What about… tomorrow! *Sigh* I wish! I don’t know when we’re coming to visit, but I hope soon! Last time we came was really fun. 🙂
2. What are your blog stats? Ooh! That’s a good question! Thus far I have…

  • 203 posts
  • 1,923 visitors
  • And here are two  picture of my stats page. The first one is by year, and the second is by day. stats 1.jpg (2)stats 2.jpgThe first year I blogged for about 7 months, the next year for a whole year, and this year for only 3 months so far, but this year is way ahead on everything! THANK YOU, DEAREST READERS! 😀 ♥

3.How many rabbits DO you have? I personally have 2 rabbits, Willow and Lily, and my siblings have 3 more bunnies: Clementine, Olaf, and Diamond. ♥
4. Can you do another close up picture and guess blog?
Oh yes, I certainly will! I love making them, but I haven’t collected enough pictures quite yet for another mystery pictures post. But don’t worry, there will be more!
5. Do you like photography more than bunnies?
Wow. That’s a hard question. The thing about bunnies is that they’re ALIVE and they’re ADORABLE, but the thing about photography is that you can take pictures that will last for a long, long time, plus it’s super fun. I guess I can’t choose because the two are so different. 🙂 But maybe… just maybe I like photography better, because the happiness and beauty you capture in a picture can be experienced (in a way) over and over again, throughout the years. *Sniff* I’m sorry bunnies – don’t worry, I l♥ve you too! ♥ ♥ ♥
6. How many times have you played I-spy? (Countless?)
I have no idea… XD
7. Would you rather live in a tree or on a roof?
Ooh! In a tree! Well, if it was a treehouse, anyway. That would be so neat! …Except for those times when it stormed, and except for the part about that I probably wouldn’t have air-conditioning or electricity… Um, I’ll take my house. 🙂
8. Would you rather have a ketchup, mayonnaise, hot sauce casserole or a deep fried cricket? XD XD XD Hee hee! Umm, since I don’t really don’t like mayonnaise or hot sauce, I think I’d choose the deep-fried cricket. If it was breaded, you probably could hardly taste it anyway. XD Ewww!

Britt‘s Questions

1. What is your favorite animal? Hmm… I really like bunnies, woodland animals, giraffes, and lots of others. 🙂
2. What are your hobbies? I like to read, make things from polymer clay, blog, photograph, and do pretty much anything craft-related. 🙂
3. Do you like to read? YES!
4. What is your favorite things to write about on this blog? My favorite thing to write about is probably funny pet stories/photostories, but my favorite thing to post about is probably photography. 🙂

That’s it for today, folks! I hope you enjoyed learning a bit more about me. 🙂

Q & A: Part 2

q & a part 2 poster (1280x1280)

Welcome back for “Q & A with Allison: Part 2!” 😀 As most of you know, I am doing this little question and answer thingy in celebration of the fact that I now have 100 followers!! (Oh, oops – 106 now. YIPPEE! 😀 ) See the first part of Q & A here.

Mercer Creative‘s Questions

1. What’s your favorite thing about living on a farm? Ooh, that’s a good one! Let me do three of my favorite things about living on a farm: I love the nature, the space, and watching the crops grow.

2. Where’s your favorite place? Well, I don’t know if it’s my absolute favorite, but one place I really like is on our farm. We call it Crystal Pond, not because the water is crystal clear (it’s actually kinda muddy), but because there are lots of beautiful crystal quartz rocks scattered on the shore. I like it because there are some of my favorite kinds of nature there – moss, mushrooms, pretty rocks, and water. 🙂 It’s also neat how the pond is kind of sealed off from the rest of the world by a ring of trees and brush. You can see a post I made about it here.

Josie‘s Questions

  1. What’s the name of the last unicorn you met? Okay. This might disappoint you but… the last unicorn I met wasn’t a live unicorn. I know. It’s a shocker, right? Okay, maybe it wasn’t so much of a shocker… XD The last unicorn I met is named Alice. You can see some pictures of Alice right here on my Etsy shop.
  2. What’s your favorite book? Umm… how about a few of my favorites. 😀 A lot of my favorite books are actually series. I love the Narnia series, the Anne of Green Gables series, the Penderwick series, the Little House series, and of course a lot of other books. 🙂
  3. What’s your favorite post you’ve written? Help! This is hard! Umm… in this post, I showed you a few of my favorite photography posts. But some other posts I really like are this weird and wacky eggs post because it showed a part of farm life that not everyone knows about, this WordCrafters post because it was SO fun to do WordCrafters with you all (Thanks, Josie, for helping! We’ll probably do it again in May), this gnome story post because it’s funny and it was fun to make, this snow pictures post because I’m still rather proud of that last picture (XD), and this rose photoshoot post because I’m also still proud of those pictures. Heh heh. That was a few more than my one favorite post, but I just couldn’t choose! XD
  4. Why did you start your blog? Misty asked this question in the last part, and the short answer is, “Because my sister had one and it looked like fun.” 😛

_____________________________________________________________

Addy‘s Questions

  1. If you are allowed to, do you watch anime? We don’t really watch TV except for the Olympics (which I LOVE by the way) and political debates, although we do watch movies pretty often. So the short answer is no, not really. 😀
  2. Do you know of any Griffins without a name? 🙂 Uhh… I can’t say that I do because I’m not exactly sure what this question means… 😀 XD
  3. Have you been to Disney world? Nope. And I’m okay with that. 🙂
  4. Would you rather go to England or Paris? Hmm… this is a hard one! It would be fun to see some pretty England countryside, so maybe England.
  5. How many fairy friends do you have? Uhh…? The only fairies in my acquaintance are Belle, Lily, and Scarlett. So three, I suppose. 🙂
  6. Regular potatoes or sweet potatoes? Ooh! I love both. Maybe regular potatoes though, because they can be prepared in so many delicious ways.
  7. Mango or Pineapple? YUMMM! I LOVE FRUIT! Ahem. I love both, but I choose mangoes because we have those less often, and they are simply delicious. 😀
  8. How many followers did you have when you started your blog? Well when I just started I had zero of course, but in the first month or so I only had 1 or 2 followers I think – my sister Megan and my grandparents. Thank you guys! ♥ And thank you all my lovely followers. 🙂
  9. Favorite book genre? I mainly like fantasy fiction (not dark fantasy fiction, though), historical fiction, and everyday adventures fiction – stories like the Penderwicks and Anne of Green Gables which don’t necessarily have a plot, but are more like well-done, interesting fictional accounts of the lives of the characters. I also like biographies, which is probably why I like reading about the lives of fictional characters too.
  10. Did you know that you’re awesome? 😀 Aww, thanks SO much, Addy! That was wonderfully sweet of you to say that. ♥ ♥ ♥

Genna‘s Question

  1. How many times have you hugged a tree? XD Hee hee! I can’t say as I know the exact answer to your question, Genna. XD I’ve certainly leaned on trees a lot of times, but I don’t know how many times I’ve hugged them. I remember one particular time that I did hug a tree – when we went on a trip and saw sequoias and redwoods. Our whole family made a circle and hugged a tree, but we couldn’t reach around it!

______________________________________________________________

K.A.‘s Questions

  1. What was the name of the last unicorn you met? See my answer to Josie’s first question. 🙂
  2. When did you get Willow and when did you get Lily? (She IS yours…isn’t she?) I got Willow in August 2015 (click on the links to see pictures of Willow then and now-ish (she’s the one with fluffy fur)), and Lily in May 2015 (Look how tiny she was: then and now! The “now” link will take you to a post by my sister with a picture of a very large Lily. XD). Yep, they are both my bunnies. ♥
  3. Have you ever kissed a frog? (I seriously did this once when I was like 5!!) Hee hee! That’s hilarious! No, I don’t remember kissing a frog, although it’s possible that I did.
  4. What’s your favorite land animal (s)? How about sea animal? Some of my favorite land animals are bunnies, hedgehogs, and giraffes. Some of my favorite sea animals are whales, dolphins, and starfish.
  5. Do you have a favorite sport? Eh… I don’t really play sports or watch them, so not really. Although I do love swimming, and I love watching gymnastics and swimming in the Olympics.
  6. Are you going to comment the answers or post them? Heh heh. XD
  7. Are you sick of questions yet? Well, yes and no. They are great fun to answer, but if I work on them for too long I get kind of tired of them. (Mostly because of how long it takes to add all of my links. XD) But I love your questions, guys, and I’m so glad I did this!
  8. Do you like to eat Ice cream? It depends on the flavor. I don’t dislike any kind of ice cream necessarily, it’s just that some flavors, are just – eh… okay. But certain kinds of ice/sherbet/frozen yogurt I do love to eat, yes!

There! You asked some great questions, guys. 🙂 Come back soon for more! ♥

Q & A: Part 1

q & a part 1 poster (1280x1280)

Now presenting the first part of “Q & A with Allison!” You guys asked so many fun and lovely questions that I had to divide the Q & A post into several parts! If you reach down into the far depths of your memory, you might recall that I am doing this question and answer post to celebrate the fact that I have 100 FOLLOWERS! (Oh, yay! 101 now. XD ) If you would still like to ask me questions, feel free to comment on this post, and I will add them in to a later part. I’m going to answer the questions in oldest-to-newest order.

Misty‘s Questions:

  1. Why did you start blogging? I’m pretty sure I started this blog because my sister Megan was doing one as part of her school program and it looked like fun.
  2. What is your favorite food? Just ONE favorite? I’m sorry but that’s too hard. XD I’ll tell you a few of my favorite foods: crab legs, spinach, chocolate, pretty much any and all fruit, and cheese. Especially BabyBel cheeses! The list could go on and on, but I’ll stop making you hungry. 🙂
  3. Pens or pencils? Hmmm. It depends on what I’m doing. Pencils are probably the wisest choice for math, and they are great for sketching or drawing detailed pictures, but I love how smoothly gel and ballpoint pens write. I usually use a gel pen for Latin and Science – it makes the work more fun. 🙂
  4. What’s your dream career? I’m already doing one of my dream jobs! My dream job is selling things I make, and I’m doing that right now with my Etsy shop. (I know, that was about my 1,000th link to my Etsy shop. Sorry!) It’s extremely fun to make stuff that people will actually buy and use!
  5.  Favorite ice cream flavor? I like Rocky Road and Black Raspberry (and others).
  6. Tea or coffee? I like the smell of coffee better, but the taste of tea better. (Although it depends on the flavor of the tea.)
  7. Would you rather eat gelato or ice cream? Hmm. This is a hard one! We had raspberry sherbet once (sherbet is kind of like gelato, right?) and it was delicious. So I might choose that over raspberry ice cream because the sherbet was much more flavorful and fruity.

Megan (A Barefoot Gal)‘s Questions

  1. Why do you like to eat doughnuts better than excavators? Do you mean why do I like to eat doughnuts more than I like to eat excavators? Then the answer is, “I’d much rather eat excavators than doughnuts, of course.” XD This was a (just slightly) odd question, my dear sister, so it called for a slightly odd answer. XD
  2. Would you rather meet Anne at Green Gables or Mary Lennox in her Secret Garden? I would like Anne better as a friend, and it would be amazing to go to Green Gables, but it also be neat to see Mary’s beautiful Secret Garden. (When it was in bloom, of course.) So maybe Anne in the Secret Garden?
  3. A pet unicorn or a pet pushmi-pullu? If it was a rainbow unicorn, probably a unicorn. 🙂

______________________________________________________________

Christian Homeschooler‘s Questions

  1. What are your favorite board games? Umm… Monopoly, Sorry, Checkers, and Chess are pretty much the only board games that come to mind, and I like those all pretty well. When we play games as a family, we often play card games or party-game type games, but right now my siblings (even my littlest sister) are really into Chess.
  2. Do you like to listen to a lot of music? What genre? I do like music, but I don’t listen to it nearly as much as some of my siblings do. 😀 As for the genre, probably CCM. I really like TobyMac’s songs especially. We went to a TobyMac concert once and he was great!
  3. What is a unique blogging tip you have? Okay, here are two tips:
    • Make your blog format inviting – Your blog’s format makes a huge difference in the initial presentation. If the format clear, easy to get around, and pleasing to look at, readers will enjoy coming to your blog much more than if the format is confusing, hard to get around, or boring.
    • Find your style – Find your own unique style of writing and/or photography. Your style helps you shine through your blog. A blog post is also more fun to read if you add something besides, “Here are some pictures.  ***Allison***.” (Actually, that’s pretty much what I did in my first ever post! XD XD ) Tell the story behind a picture, add funny captions to it… stuff like that will make it more interesting and will draw the reader in. Sometimes, even if I’m not necessarily interested in what a post is about, I still enjoy reading it because I like the bloggers writing/photography style. 🙂
  4. What is your favorite color? Practically my whole life I have loved the color purple. 😀

___________________________________________________________

CutePolarBear’s Questions

  1. Have you ever moved? I have moved once in my life, when I was one year old – and it was only to the house across our lane! XD XD I am really glad for that though – I wouldn’t want to move out of our house or off of our farm. My dad lived in the house we live in now for his whole life except for a couple years in that house across the lane.
  2. Do you play any instruments? Yes, I have been playing piano for… I think 6 years.
  3. What board games do you like to play? See Christian Homeschooler’s first question.
  4. To what music do you listen? See Christian Homeschooler’s second question. XD XD
  5. Do you follow politics at all? Yep. My dad is pretty interested in politics, and we’ve been watching the debates lately. (Although I don’t always watch the whole thing.) It’s funny but rather sad how the candidates fight it out on stage. You’ll have to wait for another part to read which candidate I like the best!
  6. What’s your favorite food that’s not dessert? Sorry about this, CutePolarBear! The first people already asked a lot of your questions. :/ 😀 See my answer to Misty’s second question – minus the chocolate part.

_____________________________________________________

Whew! That was only about 1/4 of the questions! But I’m glad there are more, because that was fun. I hope you enjoyed learning a bit more about me.

thank you! (1280x1280).jpg

YES! WOOHOO! OH YEAH! THANKYOUTHANKYOUTHANKYOUTHANKYOU!! I HAVE 100 FOLLOWERS!!!!! (This blogger was my 100th!)

Yes, you just saw me use 6 exclamation points. 😀 SQUEEEEEEEEEE!

Excuse me for a moment please… *does a happy dance and shouts with glee*

Ahem. Okay. *Bursts into song*

Sorry about that. I am ready now.

Thank you, dear readers, so, so much for your support! And if you didn’t just go click “follow” and disappear, but actually came back to read, comment on, and like my posts, thank you even more! You guys are the best! Here, take a bag of dark chocolate truffles – you’ve earned it! *Hands out virtual chocolate* Go on, dig in!

Now enough of that – LET’S PARTAAAY! XD I’m afraid I can’t pass out virtual cake and ice cream, (dark chocolate truffles are enough sugar for one afternoon) but I am going to do a little Q & A thingy so you can learn some fun facts about me.

Rules: Drop me a comment below, and ask whatever questions you like. (With two exceptions: please ask only nice, appropriate questions, and don’t ask personal information questions, like “Where do you live?” and “How old are you?”) I will answer your questions in a soon-to-come post. You can ask normal things like, “Do you play any instruments?”, “What’s your favorite color?”, and “What do you do for fun?” or you can get creative and ask “Have you ever gone to Timbuktu?”, “Would you rather eat a ketchup, mayonnaise, and hot sauce casserole or a deep fried cricket?”,  and “What was the name of the last unicorn you met.” (Seriously, I do have an answer to that last one.) Feel free to ask any of those questions up there if you don’t know what else to ask. 🙂

And another thing – if you’d like, you can comment with which type of post you most enjoy on my blog, and/or which kind you would like to see more of.

I can’t wait to see what your questions! Thanks again! ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥

You won’t forgive me? *Sigh.* Well then… Hmm, I’m sorry, but I’m going to do it anyway. XD XD Just click on the blue “5” and “6” above to go to the fifth and sixth challenges, respectively.

Challenge #5

*****************************************************************************

Breathe. You can do this, Alyssa. Concentrate. I tried to calm down, but my little pep talk wasn’t working – I was just too excited! I, Alyssa, daughter of the captain of the King’s guard, was about to enter my first tournament in sword-fighting. My friends and I had been practicing all year for this tournament, and I was determined that my team, Team Dragons, would be the champions. I looked around and saw my father standing among the crowds around the battlefield. My mother had to stay home and watch my two younger siblings, which I was disappointed about of course, but at least my father was here.

I cast an admiring glance down at my professional-quality armor, made especially for me for this big day. My father and mother knew as well as I did that I wanted to devote my life to the safety of my kingdom, but they had been reluctant to let me out of our safe castle and into the dangerous world – until this year. Finally they had seen that I was determined to practice sword-fighting, that it was a noble cause, and that I could excel at it. It had been one of my greatest days when they enrolled me in one of the top-notch sword-fighting schools in Lorrania. After a whole year of training, we were ready to fight in a mock battle. It would be many years until we could fight in the real world, but for now, I was just as excited as if I had been sent on a mission to save Lorrania, our kingdom.

Why did our kingdom need sword-fighters? Good question – I’m glad you asked. (Well, technically I guess I asked you.) You see, the kingdom of Lorrania was unfortunately placed next to a – er… rather aggressive – kingdom . Their army was continually invading our land, trying to take over our kingdom. As soon as our enormous gates opened, the enemy, always cleverly disguised, started infiltrating our city. Our king’s army, or guard division, was continually kept busy with driving out these invading spies and warriors so that, by the night time, every last enemy was locked up in prison – or killed. The streets of Lorrania were never safe after dawn, but always safe – or at least the guard strove to keep it that way – by the time the sky was black. Sword-fighting was a noble art that allowed you, if you were skilled at it, to become one of the much admired warriors of our guard division. Sword-fighting was also dangerous. But I chose not to think about that part any more than I had to.

But back to the tournament. It would start in a little less than an hour, and already a big crowd had gathered to claim the best seats. A sword-fighting tournament was a big deal in our kingdom.

Suddenly, I felt a hand on my shoulder. I turned around to see my father’s concerned face looking at me.

“Alyssa, there’s been a problem. Our spies have spotted an enemy, and I’m afraid I will have to help drive the warrior out. I am terribly sorry, Alyssa, but I suppose I cannot stay to watch the tournament.” His face was sorrowful, and mine was even more so.

“Oh, Father!” I cried, “Isn’t there any way you can stay just this once?”

“I’m afraid not, Alyssa. Most of the back-up guards are watching the tournament too. Since I am the chief guard, it is up to me to see that the job is done. But…” his eyes brightened for a moment, but then he shook his head. “No, that would never do,” he muttered under his breath. Father was turning to leave when I caught his arm.

“What would never do, Father? Pleeease, please tell me!” I widened my blue eyes into my special “pleading look” that Father almost always fell for.

Father smiled. “Oh, alright. I was just going to say that since there are barely enough guards for the job, I could…” he hesitated.

“You could what?!”

Father shook his head again. “I could take you with me to help.” He sighed after this statement, as if displeased that he had told me this.

“Oh, Father! Would you really? I’d like that so much more than being in a tournament! Pleeeease! I know I could help you a lot!” I turned my “pleading look” on to full power.

“But who would take your place in the tournament?” Father questioned.

“There are plenty of my friends that have to sit out because there aren’t enough places for everyone to join. I’m sure they would be delighted to take my place,” I begged.

“Alright. Here’s the deal. You ask your teacher, get someone to take your place, and if you can do all that in five minutes, you can go.” I was off like a flash of fire from a dragon’s mouth. And exactly four minutes and 42 seconds later, I rushed panting back with good news.

“I can go, Father!”

“The enemy was spotted in at Sea-Foam Inn,” Father told me as we walked briskly out of the arena. “We’ll have to take a boat.” Sea-Foam Inn was a unique tavern and inn that stood on poles in the water on the other side of Blooming River. (The name “Blooming River” comes from the beautiful yellow flowers that bloom all along one side of the river, and on several little islands scattered in the river itself.) The only way to get to the inn was by boat.

“Even better! I love boat-rides!” I exclaimed happily.

We approached the dock on one side of Blooming River. The only two boats left there were old and unpainted, but at that moment, I didn’t care. I was too elated with our mission. Father and I paddled across the peaceful river, and finally docked on the other shore, a little further up from the long row of boats already stationed there. It was low tide, and Sea-Foam Inn was only lightly brushed by little waves. Father and I could walk up to the Inn. I went ahead while Father carefully hid his weapons under his thick clothes. There had been no time for him to put on armor, but he was used to situations like this.

It was almost twilight, and a full moon was just beginning to come out from behind a few rosy clouds. We would need to complete our mission quickly if we wanted to drive out the enemy before night really set in.

Father caught up to me and we both walked quietly but swiftly through the wet sand. I climbed the creaking steps with my hand on my sword hilt. Now that we were about to go into the danger zone, I was beginning to get a little nervous. Father softly opened the door. This was it. Breath, Alyssa. You can do this.

A man off in a corner straightened up as soon as he saw Father. I saw him stealthily move his hand to a sword hilt sticking up above his casual peasant-dress.

“Father!” I whispered, nodding my head at the man. He nodded back, and we approached the man.

“You are under arrest!” Father told the young warrior firmly. Father didn’t shout or get angry at the warrior, but his firm voice got the message across. The warrior squinted his steely eyes and drew out his sword.

“This time, the Lorranians are going down… forever,” and the young man snapped his fingers. Six other warriors appeared out of the shadows, and only one warrior had appeared to help Father. This was it. I was on my first real mission. And I would need to help Father with all of my skill if I wanted to get out of this alive.

Heh-heh. Cliff hanger! Now… Challenge#6.

***********************************************************************

“Here we are, Hazel,” Albert said gruffly. “You can take care of yourself from here. I must go now.” Before he turned to leave, Albert pointed to a foreboding looking old building. “That’s your new home.”

Hazel Grace Oscar shouldered her small bag and forced her legs to carry her to the iron gate surrounding the building. She rapped the heavy iron knocker on the gate, and waited for something to happen. While she is waiting, I shall describe Hazel herself. Hazel had the black, curly hair, shining, dark eyes, and smooth ebony skin of her African American father, though Hazel’s mother had fair skin and light hair. Hazel’s parents had dropped her off at an orphanage ten years ago when she was a baby, because they were too poor to care for her, leaving her with nothing except a birth certificate and a small, thin blanket to remember them by. Ever since then, Hazel had been hurried from orphanage to orphanage. By the time she felt she had finally grown accustomed to one new home, she was promptly moved to another one. Now she had to repeat the whole terrible process once again – and this orphanage, Hazel noticed gloomily, seemed the worst of them all.

Finally the door opened, and a woman appeared. Hazel had prepared herself for a grumpy, scolding old lady to fit the atmosphere of place, but nothing could have prepared her for the lady in front of her. She was actually beautiful! She had lovely dark, wavy hair; pretty skin; and twinkling blue eyes.

“Hello, there, sweetheart!” the woman greeted Hazel. “You must be Hazel Oscar! My name is Adeline, and we are very happy to have you with us.” Adeline’s smile was genuinely happy, and as she took Hazel thin little hand to lead her inside, Hazel thought that perhaps she wouldn’t mind to stay at this orphanage after all.

Adeline talked genially with Hazel as she led her up some rickety stairs. “I’m sorry, Hazel, but I’m afraid I haven’t much time to help you get settled. There is always too much to do in an orphanage, you know. But here we are now! This will be your room. Three girls are already using this room, and they are very excited to meet you. Just ask them if you need anything. And good luck – they’re handful!” Adeline opened the door, and Hazel found herself looking at a brightly painted room with one large bed in the middle. Three girls were sitting together on the bed. Hazel started to inspect them, as she usually did with new acquaintances. The first had blonde hair and brown eyes; the second had light brown hair and gray eyes; and the third had red hair and blue eyes. But before Hazel could finish inspecting them, they all jumped excitedly off of the bed, and ran to meet her.

The blonde-haired girl spoke first. “Hi! My name is Emmy!”

“My name’s Violet. Welcome home!” the girl with the brown hair said softly.

“I’m Ruby!” added the red-haired girl. Then she took a deep breath and rattled off the following: “We are so excited to meet you! We need another color in our room, you know. We’ve only painted three walls so far since Adeline told us you were coming. And now we can be the four Color Girls instead of the three Color Girls! I know your first name is Hazel, but what are your other things? Do you remember your dad and mom? I don’t. If you do, what were they like? How old are you? My birthday is almost coming. When is your birthday? My best friend is Emmy, but I like Violet too. Hey Violet, why are you pinching me?” Violet shot an understanding glance at bewildered Hazel, and knelt down in front of Ruby.

“Honey, we all know you’re excited, but let Hazel catch her breath!”

Before she could get any further, Emmy broke in. “Why does she need to catch her breath? Did it run away? Maybe it’s playing tag. I like to play tag, especially freeze tag. Have you ever…” But Violet mercifully shushed Emmy before she talked Hazel into exhaustion.

Hazel was extremely bewildered and overwhelmed at this strange welcome. But, “When in doubt, sit down and think” was her motto. Since that didn’t seem to be an option, she fell back on her Plan B motto: “When you can’t sit down and think, ask questions.”

“Wh-what are the Color Girls?” Hazel questioned the bouncy girls.

“I’m so sorry,” Violet said, “We just got so excited that we didn’t give you a very good welcome. I’ll try to explain it now. We call ourselves the Color Girls because all of our names are colors – Emmy’s real name is Emerald, and Ruby and Violet are color names too. Adeline put you in our room with us because Hazel is another color name. As for the walls, we used to have ugly old wallpaper on them, but Adeline said that we could paint them, and we have painted three of the walls so far according to our names, but we left one wall for you, in case you wanted to paint it hazel.”

Now Hazel understood. But her head was still spinning, so the best response she could come up with was, “Oh.”

Emmy jumped up and offered to take her bags and Ruby offered to show Hazel around the orphanage. Violet reminded the other girls that Hazel might need a little time to rest, which Hazel acknowledged.

“I do very much want to see the orphanage,” Hazel explained, “but I need a little break first. I am very tired from walking all the way here.” So Emmy, Ruby, and Violet moved quietly over to a corner of the bedroom and whispered plans to each other while Hazel flopped onto the bed and took a short nap.

She was awakened by three small faces peering anxiously down at her.

“She’s awake!” Ruby crowed when Hazel finally opened her weary eyes.

“Now we can play!” exclaimed Emmy. Hazel pulled herself out of bed, wondering if she could ever learn to live with this much energy. At her last orphanage, all of the kids were gloomy and quiet.

Ruby and Emmy led the way, but Violet stayed behind with Hazel. “Please don’t mind those two,” Violet advised. “They are always in front together because they both never get tired. All of the other kids call them the two “gem buddies” because, well, you know, Ruby and Emerald are also jewels names, besides being color names.” Soon they entered the boys’ section of the orphanage. Several boys, little and big, were playing with old rusty cars and toys on the faded carpet of the boys’ hall. They waved to Ruby and Emmy, and stared at Hazel the newcomer.

Violet noticed that Hazel was getting a bit uncomfortable with all of the stares, so she introduced her. “This is Hazel, boys. She just came to the orphanage today.” A mumbled chorus of hellos greeted Hazel at this announcement. They passed the boys section, went down another flight of stairs, and finally caught up with Emmy and Ruby who were impatiently waiting for them at a door downstairs.

“Let’s go outside, now, Hazel!” Ruby suggested. Hazel nodded her consent, and immediately Emmy and Ruby rushed out the door. Violet and Hazel followed a little more sedately.

The backyard of the orphanage was not much better kept up than the front of the building, but it was more attractive than the front because of the lively little figures playing tag or swinging on the rusty swing set.

“This is a really heavy-duty fence, Violet,” Hazel noted, running her long fingers along the iron stakes of the fence surrounding the orphanage yard.

“Yep. You know why, don’t you?” Violet looked searchingly at Hazel. “It’s to keep the public safe from all of us.”

Hazel frowned. “No. I didn’t know. Wh-why would any of the kids here hurt the public?”

“We wouldn’t. Everyone is just scared of us. They think we’re ugly little brats, and they don’t ever want to come near us. The mayor of Mannata made the orphanage put up the fence to calm the people’s worries. And no one loves us – except Adeline. She was an orphan too, but she made a way for herself in the city, and soon people got over their fear of her being an orphan, and loved her for who she was. As soon as she had enough money saved up, she bought this place to hold all the many orphans in the city. This orphanage runs on funds given to the by the city, just to keep us orphans out of the way. When we turn sixteen, Adeline sends us out into the world. We must either try to eke out a living in Mannata, as Adeline did, or else travel to another city.” Violet cast her eyes down at the ground at the end of this speech. Her eyes were shining brightly with tears.

“That – that’s horrible!” Hazel declared, outraged. “The people should be ashamed of themselves.”

“I know. They should be,” Violet agreed, “but they aren’t.” Hazel looked sadly over the tall iron fence to the gray city beyond. Everything was so still and lifeless. Just waiting for all of these little children to liven it up, Hazel thought. Her gaze roamed over the landscape until it stopped on a neon sign above a large building. “Picture House,” it said, only some of the letters had become unlit, so it looked like “Cure us.” My sentiments exactly, thought Hazel. Cure yourselves of your prejudice against innocent orphans who just need a loving home.

Just then Emmy and Ruby bounced up. “Hi guys!” Emmy said cheerfully, breaking Hazel’s gloomy train of thought. “We’re ready to show you the rest of the orphanage.”

“Yeah, we were just finishing freeze tag first,” Ruby added. So Hazel and Violet once more allowed the two younger girls to lead the way.

Hazel had a hard time going to sleep that night because she was really rather squished between three sleeping bodies. She thought over her day as she liked to do every night – she thought about all of the new people she’d met and all of the new places in the orphanage she had discovered with the help of her three new friends: the Color Girls. Hazel had a feeling that she would fit in here a bit more quickly than she had at the other orphanages, where she had always been a loner off in some corner. She smiled to herself as she gazed at the blank wall that would soon be painted in a fresh coat of hazel paint. Eventually she fell asleep. As the bedroom disappeared in a haze of sleep, a new scene appeared in Hazel’s mind.

She was dressed in a flowing red cape, standing in the middle of a colossal platform embossed with a beautiful mandala design. There were pillars surrounding her on every side, and hanging from those pillars were illuminated paintings of planets and other worlds, six of them, in each color of the rainbow. For a few seconds Hazel stood gazing at these paintings, until all but three of them disappeared. There were left only the red, green, and purple worlds. As Hazel watched, a figure appeared in each of them. A grinning, freckled face with red curly hair and blue eyes gradually filled the painting. Next, a laughing blonde-haired girl with brown eyes filled the green painting. And finally, the purple painting portrayed a portrait of a girl with soft brown wavy hair, gray eyes, and a gentle smile. As soon as all of the faces had appeared, Hazel heard voices echoing her name. “Hazel! Hazel! Come play with us!” She softly approached the paintings and stood there, staring up at them. Then a new painting appeared. It was a lovely shade of brown – you could almost call it hazel brown. Hazel’s own face soon filled the frame, and looked happily towards the other faces. The voices still called to Hazel, and this time, her painting answered them. But the faces kept repeating the same phrase until Hazel woke up.

When she awoke, she saw three small faces peering down at her. “She’s awake!” Ruby crowed, exactly like she had the last day. But this time Hazel was glad to get up and begin another day with her new friends, the Color Girls.

It was fun to write about the Color Girls. 🙂 I might add more to that story later, but, we’ll see. Thanks for pushing through all of those words! Oh wait! There was something else I was going to show you. Two things, actually. The first is a PFA (Post from the Forgotten Abyss.) This time I decided that there really wasn’t any use in copying the whole post, when I can just give you a pretty lil’ link. So here it is:

Clementine Butterflies

Appropriately orange, eh? I posted that about a year ago. Here’s a picture from the post lest you wonder what a “Clementine Butterfly” is.

The last thing I wanted to show you is just a little stats update. Or rather, a big stats update! Take a gander at the difference between the stats for this year so far (one day over a month) and the first year I started blogging (I blogged for about seven months out of the first year)! SQUEEE! This blog got about five times more views in the month of January than it did in seven months, two years ago! And in one month this blog has gotten more than half as many views as THE WHOLE LAST YEAR!! Thank you so much, readers, for doing your part to add to that little orange bar of happiness. 🙂 I am ever so grateful. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU! 😀

2015, Award, News + Lots of Photos!

Happy New Year! Okay, get ready for a long post, because today I will be reviewing my 2015 bloggy year, doing an award, and telling you one of my New Year’s resolutions. Ready? First up, my blog year – it was a great year, and a HUGE year, at least compared to last year. Taking into account the fact that I only blogged 7 months last year instead of 12 this year, still, the stats increased A LOT. And thanks to all of you, I now have almost 60 followers! SQUEEEE! 😀 😀 Here are the yearly stats for this year and last year:
