A Few Tidbits

This is a random post of pictures of lots of little things that aren’t hardly big enough for their own post, but are not small enough to be left out.  They are gathered here today for your viewing pleasure.

This is a picture I took awhile ago of the beautifully straight rows of soybeans in one of our fields.  I’m sure it looks quite different now!

Here is a fun little rock that looks like it has a “b” on it.

A cute tiny froggie:

A little village made from rambutan shells – rambutans are a fruit that our friends introduced us too, with soft but spiky-looking shells and a soft sweet fruit in the middle.

The chief’s house:

We picked a bunch of apples today to make applesauce with (YUM!) and they all looked so pretty laid out on the ground.  I like this smaller photo because it shows the interesting texture better.

And here is a flip-flop makeover – I drew a pretty design on the straps with Sharpie.  Simple, effective, but it took a long time!

Have a nice one!  (And by the way, the next post will reveal the mystery, so you better guess quick if you want to guess at all!)

New Additions

Yep, we already have a lot of pets (5 rabbits, 1 cat, 1 dog, 2 kittens) but we just added more!  We now have 5 crayfish, and um… a LOT of underwater snails!  The crayfish (also called crawdads, crawfish, or mudbugs) are fascinating to watch.  We have the four biggest ones in a large tank, and the smallest one (which is mine by the way!) is in a fishbowl so he/she won’t get eaten.

DSCN9926

I named mine Mudbug, and the other four are Duncan, Mike, Bart, and Jamie.  Sometimes the big ones fight each other, and they make their own little nooks and crannies to hide in in the tank.  But I think the most fun thing to watch is when they eat.  Believe it or not, they love frozen peas!  When we give them to the crayfish, they grab the peas and start tearing off little bites.  I took a video of one of the crayfish eating, and one of a cute little underwater snail trying to lick the glass of the tank – two more videos for my YouTube channel!

And here are some pictures.  (The last crayfish picture shows the swimmerets – the little feathery things under its tail.  The swimmerets help the crayfish swim, they fan water over its gills, and for the females, they hold the eggs!)

And here is a snail.

P.S  We also have 5 black swallowtail caterpillars!  (But no pictures.)

A Bunny Family Meal

Whew, it’s hot here!  It feels kind of like summer – I’m not sure why…. ☺  Anyway, the bunnies get really hot here too, so one day we gave them a cool treat – fresh lettuce on an ice table – yum!  As you can imagine, they kind of really enjoyed it. So now without further ado, I present A Bunny Family Meal (with commentary).

-Allison(Lily, flubber) 049

Here stands the lonely ice table, laden with fresh lettuce, but with no one to eat from it’s iciness.

-Allison(Lily, flubber) 050

Hooray!  The table is gladdened by the arrival of Honeybunny, who grabs a leaf and chomps away.

-Allison(Lily, flubber) 057

The sound of Honeybunny’s enjoyment spreads throughout the cage, and draws not one, not two, but THREE other rabbits to the table to eat of the bounty.

-Allison(Lily, flubber) 056

The innocent Lily is disturbed from her meal by a greedy Mango.  How rude!

-Allison(Lily, flubber) 057

But justice is restored – Miss Lily gets the last piece.

-Allison(Lily, flubber) 054

Ahhhhh!  Cold lettuce – how satisfying!

-Allison(Lily, flubber) 058

Full and furry, my friend, full and furry.  And thus ends A Bunny Family Meal.  Thank you for reading, and come again!

Hear Ye, Hear Ye!

We now have another bunny on the farm!  My brother Jeff bought him just yesterday.  Here is his “profile.”

*************************************

Breed: New Zealand

Color: White

Name: Olaf (!!!!)

Gender: Buck (male) (Update: several weeks later, we found out that Olaf is actually a female! But when I first wrote this post, we didn’t know. XD )

****************************

And look at the last thing on the list – he’s a male!  Since we have two female New Zealands (Lily and Mango) we are going to breed them, which means that you will probably be seeing some pictures of cute little baby bunnies!  Sadly, it will probably be awhile, because we have to wait until the rabbits are older to breed them. 😦  But probably sometime next year.

And now for the pictures!

DSCN9799 DSCN9800 DSCN9802  DSCN9806 DSCN9809 DSCN9811

I love his beautiful, snow-white fur.

One more thing: I have several posts to do, but which do you want me to do first?

Oh – one MORE thing: should I do a profile page for all our bunnies, like with a picture, and information about them and stuff?

Miss Lily, the Model

Now that Miss Lily is my model, it’s time for her to do some modeling!  (You can see the interview post here.)  Miss Lily and her sister Mango (but mostly Miss Lily) are our charming models today.  They are modeling two of the outfits for the American Girl Doll McKenna (Doll of the Year 2012).  Now, without further ado, we present… Miss Lily and Mango!  (But mostly Miss Lily.)

Ladies and gentlemen, please give these wonderful bunnies a hand!  Thank you for coming, and I wish you a happy day!

***Allison***

P.S  Please excuse Lily and Mango if they do not look as well groomed as usual.  These pictures were taken right after their baths, and they hardly had time to fluff up.  Lily and Mango thank you for your understanding.

P.P.S  I’ve been doing a lot of bunny posts, if you haven’t noticed.  Are you getting tired of bunny posts?  If you are, you can tell me in the comments and I will slow them down.  If you aren’t, you can also tell me in the comments, because don’t worry, I have more posts planned if you want them!

A Meeting with Miss Lily

* Knock, knock, knock *

-Allison(Lily, flubber) 028

“Hello, who is it?”

“It’s just me, Allison.”

“Oh, come in, come in, have a seat!”

“Thank you.  I think I will.”

“Now, what brings you here?”

-Allison(Lily, flubber) 034

“Well actually, I just came to take some pictures.  You really are a great model, Lily, and I thought I might take some pictures of your sisters, too.  Oh, here’s Honeybunny – maybe she won’t mind.”

-Allison(Lily, flubber) 035

“Sorry about that, Honeybunny is a little shy.”

“That’s OK, I understand.  But back to business.  Would you mind posing for me so I can post some more pictures of you on my blog?”

“Wait, you have a blog?”

-Allison(Lily, flubber) 033

“Yep.”

“Ohhhh, that must be why you brought that strange clicking-beeping-thing here so often.  It must be your camera.  Am I correct?”

-Allison(Lily, flubber) 030

“You are correct.  So, what do you say?  Do you want to be my model?”

“I accept with pleasure, my dear mistress.”

Great!  Then let’s get started.  What about a nice, quiet pose to begin with.”

-Allison(Lily, flubber) 027

“Ooh! May I see?  Um, I’m afraid you’ll have to take that one over again, I had a piece of straw on my head – most undignified.  Not to mention it’s a little blurry”

“Quiet right.  Now, be your cutest!”

-Allison(Lily, flubber) 029

“Beautiful!  I’m afraid the background isn’t the best, but it will have to do.”  “Now just a few close-ups, and that will be good enough for the first session.”

-Allison(Lily, flubber) 031 -Allison(Lily, flubber) 032

“Wonderful!  You are the best, Miss Lily.  Thank you for your time, and I will see you again soon!”

“Goodbye!”

Miss Lily Takes A Walk

And now, ladies and gentlemen, we present the one, the only, the lovely Miss Lily!

-Allison (bunnies, forest terrarium) 002

Today she is going on a walk around the premises.  She will sample a few tasty greens and flowers along the way, and tell us what she thinks of them.

-Allison (bunnies, forest terrarium) 005 -Allison (bunnies, forest terrarium) 003

Grass:  “Eh, 3 stars.  There’s nothing special, you know?  I need… flavor!”

Dandelion:  “Hmm…  This is very good.  5 stars.  I love the burst of flavor, and the sunny yellow adds a nice touch too.”

Those are Miss Lily’s reviews folks, her genuine(ish) reviews of grass and dandelions.

Now Miss Lily will kindly share the camera with her sister Mango as they have a unique bonding experience sharing a piece of dandelion.

-Allison (bunnies, forest terrarium) 001

And that is the end of the show.  Thank you for watching, folks, and come back next time for some more fun!

Forest Terrarium

I love making terrariums/ fairy houses/ miniature gardens, and I got some cute little forest animals for my birthday from my friends, so I decided to make a forest terrarium with the glass tank we have.  I’ll show you mine so you can get an idea of how to make one, and then you can be creative and make your own!

——- I used ——-

-succulents (which I also got for my birthday)

-a random little bushy plant from the woods

-a stump thingy from a miniatures store

-miniature forest animals (my friends said they were from Target)

-soil

-moss

-quartz crystals (from around our farm)

-rocks

-Allison (bunnies, forest terrarium) 009 -Allison (bunnies, forest terrarium) 010 -Allison (bunnies, forest terrarium) 011 -Allison (bunnies, forest terrarium) 012 -Allison (bunnies, forest terrarium) 013 -Allison (bunnies, forest terrarium) 014 -Allison (bunnies, forest terrarium) 015 -Allison (bunnies, forest terrarium) 016

I planted the shrubby things along the back of the terrarium.  Most of the succulents I made into little gardens with crystals in the two front corners of the terrarium.  I always think moss adds a nice touch, especially for a woods.  My favorite animals in their habitat are probably the wolf howling from the rock, or the skunk on a log.  Which are your favorites?
